Is this 11.1

http://swcdn.apple.com/content/down...n9y64jk2jemzuy1oio5m85hm/InstallAssistant.pkg

I checked before, twas still /50/49/001, it changed now.

Downloading now.

Nope...I don't think so, odd actually, this was updated recently, a new 11.0.1?

Yes, it is the new 11.0.1. Apple today released a revised version of macOS 11.0.1 Big Sur, which appears to be available for some Mac users who had not previously installed the macOS 11.0.1 update.

Probably fixes problems with bricked M1 macs after restoring, makes sense.
12.18 GB down the drain, whatever, I am on a 1 Gb connection, was lightly exited though.

I just read this...for those of you that have issues installing and get a black screen, some unsupported macs have the same behaviour.

If you can’t install macOS Big Sur on certain 13-inch MacBook Pro computers from 2013 and 2014

Follow these steps if you can't install macOS Big Sur on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) or MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014).

When you install macOS Big Sur on these Mac models, the installer might say that the update cannot be installed on this computer, or your Mac might start up to a blank screen or circle with a line through it
prohibitory-icon.png
.
If your Mac no longer starts up successfully, these steps might help resolve the issue:
  1. Press and hold the power button on your Mac for at least 10 seconds, then release. If your Mac is on, it turns off.
  2. Unplug all external devices from your Mac, including any displays and USB accessories, and remove any card inserted in the SDXC card slot. Then turn your Mac on.
  3. If the issue persists, reset the SMC as described for notebook computers with a nonremovable battery.
  4. If the issue persists, reset NVRAM or PRAM.
  5. If none of these solutions work, please contact Apple Support for further assistance.
This article will be updated as more information becomes available.

For me its almost flawless. Top bar takes a long time to load after login for me. Something like 20s. It is longer than boot itself. Maybe not a clean install related?

Another point is screensaver lag. Drift and even Flurry are stuttering like mad. Something like 5fps.

Do you have fast loading top bar and fast screensavers?
Mine works like a charm. The only two glitches I had today were names of people not showing up in Messages, which I solved by turning off iCloud Messages and turning back on, as well as the search not working in Mail. There, I found a post somewhere where you had to open and close mail two times and then reboot and it worked somehow. Totally random but it solved the problem. No issues with the top bar and I don't use screensavers so couldn't comment on that.

Hey Everyone,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I plan on doing the patch method and was wondering if I could do a clean (formatted) install as well? I do NOT just want to do a an upgrade to be clear. I want to format and start clean / fresh with Big Sur on my 2012 Mac Mini if possible.

Is this something that can be done with the big-sur-micrpatcher steps? TIA.

Sure you can, create the USB installer and go through the steps of Micropatcher before you wipe your disk.
A backup always comes in handy though, there's always a change things get messed up.

But, the again, why reinstall, I never did and I am on OS X/macOS since the very first 10.0b which was released 2 decades ago.

Certainly - in fact, arguably it might work even better than trying to do an upgrade. Just format an APFS volume with the installer and install ...

I created a bootable Big Sur install, patched with micro patcher, started EFI boot(which turned off my iMac immediately) and started the regular installer. However when I press install, it says "This copy of the InstallAssistant application is damaged, and can't be used to install macOS.".

I downloaded the file from #6829.

Any ideas what might be the issue? Maybe I should try another usb drive?

There have been a few similar reports.
Maybe try a different usb stick/drive and download from this thread and guide

It worked for me last night :) Again!

Possibly use the link on post #1 here and recreate the USB installer...
Use the patch-kext.sh from post # 6822. Has some fixes and enhancements for iMac 2009 to 2011

I've downloaded it from at least 3 different apple CDN links. Doesn't seem to change the outcome. Unless I just haven't found the latest.
I was finally able to install. I was using yet another USB drive. This time I was able to get it to install on my Late 2012 Mac Mini. I even have WiFi working after patching kexts. So far everything seems functional.

Thanks, I tried a different drive and install went fine. I applied the patch-kext.sh too you mentioned and now I have ethernet too, not just wifi. So I think everything is in order now!

Edit: almost everything, the screen is a bit dimmed on max brightness. But that was the same with Catalina, so I will look up the patch for that tomorrow :)

Today I got a Mac mini 5,1 with i5-2415M. Ironically, I'm the original owner and a friend has been "borrowing" it for the past 6-7 years. :)

It's another project computer that I'll put Big Sur on, after my success with my iMac 11,1.

So how good (bad?) will graphics performance be on this machine considering it only has Intel HD Graphics 3000? I would only use it for general computing, web browsing and similar. No photo/video editing.

I'm in the middle of trying my latest attempt of using BigMac patcher on my Mac Pro 3,1 2.8 Ghz 8 core, GEForce 680 Metal card. One thing @StarPlayrX needs to know is that his installer DOES NOT warn that creating a USB installer will erase all partitions on the disc in order to do what it does. I didn't realize this and had created a separate volume on an existing drive for this. Now the volume that was deleted is backed up and I probably wasn't going to use the data again anyway. But a warning during the installer script would be appreciated before someone else gets stung for lost data.

As for my efforts, I'm still unsuccessful with the patcher. I tried to create the BigMac11USB (that worked), then tried booting from it (using option, ok) and then it reboots....then seems to try again, then reboots to a blank screen and just freezes. Now I'm running the ./preinstall script manually from Catalina, running the installer and seeing if I can get success. Seems to be getting to an Apple boot screen with a progress bar.....

Now I'm at the Language Chooser app with a window "MacOS Update Assistant...updating". Haven't seen this before. Progress bar isn't moving. But I'll be patient.

OK, more info. Doing it this way (running from Catalina) seems to have resulted in an incomplete install. Just a System folder (with folders in that, Applications, Developer, DirectKit and Library) and nothing else. The target SSD I'm installing to was converted to APFS but outside of that, it's not complete. Not sure why.

One thing I've never seen in an opportunity for a terminal screen during the install.

Thanks @Ausdauersportler & @jackluke for your help & support. I have finally got the iMac mid 2011 27 inch running perfectly with Big Sur though It crashed multiple times because of some loose connection while I had swapped the drives.
1. I have a question under big sur in disk utility I see com.apple.bless.. some numbers. Is it supposed to be like this or can it be renamed and whether it will cause any trouble.

2. AS the iMac has 3 internal Sata ports 0,1, & 2. O is attached with internal manual hybrid drive as backup.
Since I have my internal ssd attached to the optical port bay internally with 3gb/s speed (So far all is running great)

3. I also read that testing by the OWC lab with a 6Gb/s SSD on all three 27" models showed only 3Gb/s speeds on all three ports.

My second Bild of old Big Sur installation on Mac Pro 2008.

Mac Pro 3,1 (early 2008)
2xE5462 (QC 2.8)
4x4GB DDR2 5300F
NoNamed SSD 64GB
GTX 680 2GB (Flashed Mac EFI)

Installed by create partition on Hard Drive and creating install media, patching by Micropatcher and Jacklukem USB fixes 1 and 2.
After installation process, perform BigMac postinstall from MacOS Catalina and USB legacy patch from BigSurFixes Menu from Recovery mode (install media).
All work good!
Not opencored.
P.S. Old 2005 Bluetooth card should be removed.

Nope, try again, probably another 3-5 years.
Just an example, the latest Intel mac is barely a few months old, normally Apple supports macs with a minimum 5 years OS compatibility.
I have 2 Macs from 2012, the last OS was still supported so about 8 years of support.
Apple will not support Intel that long but 100% sure more than what you said above.
My guess was above, 3-5 years.
I think so too. It is likely Intel support in future MacOS' will fade out similar to the obsolete/vintage cycle for hardware. Especially since there are both options, AS and Intel, being offered at the same time right now.
