macOS 11 Big Sur on Unsupported Macs Thread

I have an HD4000 that has metal and opengl on catlina, but is lost when using big sur (checked wtih glview)
I can only get these logs

just dual boot with same opencore

It seems the IntelAccererator is not loaded.. and the negative 1 (-1) in fb seems to say there is problem there

Hello everyone, I have a request from OpenCore Legacy Patcher users. Specifically we're looking to document more success cases within the patcher, this allows us to check if a specific model's been tested in the wild as well as what version of OCLP is used.

This should aid greatly for both us (the developers) as well as the users when troubleshooting since they're able to more easily find what version is known good in the event the latest release of the patcher has regressions.

To help out, we're mainly asking for the following:
- Machine model (ie. iMac14,2)
- Patcher version (ie. 0.0.21)
- Any extra mods done to the machine (ie. Wifi or GPU upgrade)

No extra mods. I just played an hour of Starcraft II with bluetooth audio through my Sony WH-1000XM3 headset. Wifi also seems good solid. Bootcamp with Windows 10 20H2 also works. In-place upgrade from Catalina (which was just upgraded from Mojave - I decided to give it a go as I had backed up my system) and while I had to reboot the Mini when it seemed like it hung on some post-install thingie it has been running great since.

Great job! Thanks so much for giving my old Mini an extended usability!

Although already successful, exercised OCLP release 0.0.22 a bit further on MBP5,2.

All involved media on USB (stick with OCLP 0.0.22, 11.2.3 installer, SSD with two separate partitions for BS).

1) installed 11.2.3 with OCLP, over an existing 11.2.3 made a while ago with jackluke's BigSurFixes (option 3 of other patcher options in 1st post). That worked well, subsequent OTA update to 11.3b7 did install, but couldn't boot; as also suggested in the README of 0.0.22. But maybe I just wasn't patient enough.
Could not install 11.2.3 over it, neither with OCLP nor with BigSurFixes. Then erased this partition.

2) clean install of 11.2.3 with OCLP with full migration of data/apps from Catalina 10.15.7. Worked well, afterwards OTA update to 11.3b7. Installed well, subsequent booting apparently hang for >1hr. Rebooted via OCLP, came a bit further according to progress bar, but hang again. Proceeded to login the third time.
Internal audio working OK.

3) clean install of 11.2.3 with OCLP to the other partition without migration, works well, subsequent OTA to 11.3b7 installs well, hangs once during booting, proceeds to config screens 2nd time.

No graphics acceleration of course, and Monitor Panel of system settings incomplete.
Good that OCLP works so well nonetheless with the MBP5,2. THANKS!

One more test, regarding the installation of 11.2.3 over 11.3b7.

Now that I have two working BS partitions with b7, ran the installer for 11.2.3. Both partitions are not available for installation ("resetting the volume is not possible"). This is when booting the installer via OCLP 0.0.22 or when running it via jackluke's BigSurFixes.

Made a new installer with createinstallmedia from 11.3b6. Booting this with OCLP, it now shows the two BSs as available for installation.

It seems one cannot go back from 11.3b7 to 11.2.3, at least on my setup.
Doesn't matter, just wanted to report.
It only mattered for me when I had the non-bootable b7 installation which I couldn't revive with 11.2.3 and had to erase (installing b6 over it with OCLP from full installer also led to a non-bootable system; but I may have been not patient enough, more booting attempts could have helped).

EDIT: it seems the BS partitions on the USB disk are not visible to the installer when running it from Catalina.
The next option then is to have a minimal 11.2.3 installation and run the installer from there. Will try this for future fallback needs.

EDIT2: made a clean installation of 11.2.3 on a small partition on my BS USB SSD. I confirm that when running the 11.2.3 installer on this 11.2.3, it sees the other partition which has 11.3b7. So could have installed 11.2.3 over it (but didn't).

IMHO a downgrade of an existing installation per es never worked and was never planned to work. I was recently really surprised that one can install the same Big Sur version (11.2.3 in that particular case) over an existing one preserving all user data and setting using the USB installer.

Yes, that works.

I did exactly that with 11.2.2 when swapping from micropatcher across to OCLP.

It is covered in OCLP guide. The wording maybe a bit vague on that.

• You can however reinstall macOS with this patcher and retain your original data

Do you all mean 11.3 Beta 8 20E5231a and not ...321a??? I had show up for mine and applied OTA (thanks to previous OCLP), had to boot initially from EFI to allow the upgrade to proceed and tada!!! No issues thus far...

Yes, this is simple. Just mount both EFI partitions of the internal disk and the USB stick, copy the complete folders named EFI/OC and System over (via Finder). To mount the EFI partitions you can either use the terminal command diskutil or the mountEFI tool.

If you have no idea what I am writing about just rerun OCLP and install the identical but newly generated package to the internal disk.

Also here on MBP5,2, successfully OTA updated from beta 7 to beta 8. Using OLCP 0.0.22. Target SSD is on USB.

One extra reboot (power off, Apple boot selector, OLCP) needed in last step of installation after hang, and one during booting the installed system.

    (just build EFI, no changes)

    (still 802.11n but gives you BT4 = Handoff)

*Problems:

• sleep issues b/c Backlight is on when lid is closed
• no GPU acceleration (HD3000), which is not as bad as I thought

Yes, we have numerous successful installations using the latest pushed update. You should keep a small High Sierra partition, install OC to the internal EFI and after reboot you will be able (secret!!) to use unpatched Mojave, Catalina and Big Sur installers to get to the latest update of each of this versions using the OTA method. No more manual extension installation, no package installation, everything should work just with booting through OC!

Generally if you cannot see the Big Sur USB in the mac's native picker then that means the USB either is broken or the installer was corrupted during flashing

I would recommend redownloading macOS and trying on a new USB
