See below post from fellow 2012 MBP user that switched to OCLP, using the official OCLP user guide as well as a simplified guide that I posted.

I would definitely recommend OCLP for yourself, as the 2012 MBP is fully supported. End result, you can do software update (OTA) as per normal means.

Yes, OCLP is very easy, light, convenient, and EXTREMELY customizable!!! Especially with legacy macs that have accel now, it's really a gem.

Congratulations to the developers for the excellent work. Thank you very much for reviving my 2010 Macbook. Working very well so far. Some small graphical problems but it is very well.
I'm trying to activate SIP, I've tried it from the terminal using 'csrutil enable' through the boot disk and also through the OpenCore-Patcher app. Does anyone know how this can be done?

Hi, I have a question about update.
I installed Big Sur 11.2.3 with OCLP 0.1.2 yesterday.
I had good experience in Big Sur.

Today, I tried to update from BS 11.2.3 to 11.3.1 with OTA(System Preference).
However, I failed to update despite all the process of updating.
After downloading, preparing for update, rebooting, and installing, the current MacOs version in my MacBook Pro 2009(5,5) is still 11.2.3.
What's the problem?

===========

Updating: Today, I updated BS 11.2.3 to 11.3.1....^^

Likely required to be disabled due to graphics patches installed by OCLP v.0.1.2. See Item 8 in the OCLP app set-up menu.

I have been using a customized version of OpenCore from here to enable AMD graphics acceleration and figured i'd update to 11.2.3 directly from Catalina via software update a month or 2 ago (worked just fine). I have a HDD that is used as a "guinea pig" for OTA updates before I update the installation on my SSD. The HDD test installation has a fresh install of 11.2.3 since the update to 11.3 didn't work.

My question is this: can I remove the current flavor of OpenCore and install OCLP without doing a complete wipe and reinstall? on the HDD test installation first with SSD containing Mojave/Big Sur removed. If need be I still have a GTX 680 Mac Edition for boot screen if things go south.

Hi guys. I just installed macOS Big Sur on my MacBook Pro 5,4 15” mid 2009 with OpenCore Legacy Patcher and everyhting works, except some graphical glitches which is expected, but I can’t get sound to work. I tried post volume patch a couple of times but can’t seem to get it working. Headphones plugged in also don’t work but AirPods do but only for a couple of minutes, then they disconnect. Maybe I am doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have the same machine and had the same issues with no sound. I mentioned this in the Github page under issues and was sent , the not yet released to the public OCLP 0.1.3 , which has resolved this problem. I am sure in the next few days a full release will be downloadable.

Overall working very well! MBP5,2 completely usable with BS now.

I've seen a problem when enabling transparency reduction: then the left part of the menu bar is not updated correctly when changing the foreground window.
Once I shut down with transparency disabled, then after booting the left part of menu bar remained blank so couldn't do much from there on. Then I remembered jackluke's reducetransparency fix command which he provided long ago #2,275 .
Changed the setting in there from true to false, applied, rebooted - that was the rescue.

Some small graphics glitches, like not displayed symbols in some system settings, really don't hurt.
Re: reduced transparency and present release of the non-metal acceleration.
Just to show the place one can switch transparency reduction, should the appropriate system setting not be accessible. The universalaccess.plist is binary so less easy to change without Xcode. In this case use jackluke's command mentioned above.

From an eagles perspective I would say yes since I exchanged and exchange my own OpenCore configs with OCLP all the time. If you are not familiar with all the details just keep a copy of the running config and install it on an USB thumb drive in advance to have a fall back. Always do a PRAM reset on OC changes.

Updated OTA to 11.3.1 from 11.2.3 and had to re-apply Post Install patches w/OCLP app. All is good except Screenshot which now sux. OCLP v.0.1.2 is approaching maturity. From the app - Item 5>item 13>item 3>restart. Near Catalina graphics quality on this Mini3,1. 😎

Can I please get help with my iMac9,1 not getting internal speakers working, external audio port, internal microphone? I tried executing OCLP 0.1.3 and get no result. Thanks!

Upgrade installed Big Sur 11.2.3 on an early 2008 15" Macbook Pro 4.1 using OCLP. Went surprisingly well. Very functional with the graphics acceleration patch. I'm happy with it.

I'm having one issue. There is no sleep function. It can't be set and then activated using sys preferences battery, terminal, closing the lid or apple menu. System sleep preventers: .Display Boot and IOdisplaywrangler. Went through the list of possible problems and solutions that prevent sleep without success. Not sure if this is purely related to the beta acceleration patch or OCLP in general. I have not read any answers on OCLP Github that solve this problem.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to restore the sleep function? I appreciate all the work, time and effort that so many have put into this project. Thank you,

I have issues with wifi (macbookpro5,1 OCLP 0.1.2 11.3.1) Could you be more specific on how to fix this using Post install.app, as you suggested earlier?

Today I installed Big sur 11.3.1 on a MBP 8,2 late 2011 with OCLP 0.1.2. It works good but with problems with photos and maps, and no keyboard backlight at the moment and screenshot app. Is there a possibility to fix the photos app?

Three apps to consider - SwitchResX and perhaps ResXreme. Allow millions of colors as opposed to biliions. 😎 Also, EasyRes, a menubar app from the AppStore.

I don't Think this problem is resolved with these apps. Something is wrong whee patching. I nope it Will be resolved with the new edition

I'd like to report at least partial success.

After removing the previous flavor of OpenCore and doing a couple NVRAM resets the computer acted normally and only saw the Mojave installation in startup disk.

After installing OCLP 0.1.2 and realizing I had an extra step for an unflashed graphics card both 11.2.3 installations are now bootable (main install on SSD with Mojave and test install on HDD). However, whenever I try to boot either Mojave or Mojave recovery i'm greeted with the friendly forbidden symbol. I moved on from that and successfully upgraded 11.2.3 on the test HDD to 11.3 via bootable USB installer. As of right now i'm downloading the 2.4GB 11.3.1 OTA update and assume it should go fine. Once that is done i'll update my main install from 11.2.3 to 11.3.1 using the same method since it worked on the test install.

1 oddity I noticed while booting from the 11.3 install media is it only worked with a bluetooth Apple mouse. Not even a mouse plugged in via USB was recognized. When booted into 11.2.3 recovery it seems bluetooth mice can't be used but any USB mouse is recognized. Doesn't really matter.

Once all that is done i'll boot from a Mojave USB and try to get that working. It does, however, show up in startup disk (can also browse it in Finder) in 11.3 but just isn't bootable.

Keyboard Backlight is unlikely to be fixed anytime soon, however apps like LabTick will allow for a menubar approach to controlling the keyboard backlight

Got BS 11.3.1 installed on a 17" MBP 8,3 Core i7, -AMD HD6770M/intel HD 3000 using the micropatcher..... EVERYTHING works great except I can not adjust screen brightness.... Is there a fix for this?

This is an update to my post at the bottom of the prev page.

I was unable to update 11.3 to 11.3.1 via software update with OCLP 0.1.2. I did another wipe/install of 11.3 via bootable USB on a HDD and that went fine. Tried the OTA update again and on reboot the progress bar stopped at around 50% (like prev attempt) and stayed there for almost 2.5 hours. I rebooted back into 11.3 on that drive and all seems normal except what Macs Fan Control said my temps were... CPU A/B diodes were at 85C and the northbridge diode was at 100C. Steamy.

So I write this booted into 11.2.3 on my SSD. Mojave seems to be a lost cause since the USB installer I have shows forbidden symbol. 1 thing I haven't tried is doing a wipe/install of 11.2.3 on the HDD and doing an OTA update to 11.3.1 but spent the whole day tinkering with this and will have to continue next weekend. At least the machine boots into a stable 11.2.3 and 11.3 on 2 different drives. Haven't even tried the Ubuntu installation yet...
