I very much would like the answer to this question as well. I have an iMac 14,2 that is running 11.3.1 now and I have always used micropatcher. I'd like to know if there is something unique I need to do with OCLP because I have used micropatcher. I am reading carefully through the OCLP documentation but have not yet found word one way or another for this case.
I did a OCLP install over my Micropatcher install on 2 different machines. Worked fine.

I now use OCLP (0.1.2) and all seems to work well including updates to Big Sur 11.3.1. After all patching etc. I had to do my work again and now recognized, that my EIZO 2nd Monitor connected to my iMac 14,2 does not work any longer. It's connected via Thunderbolt 2. It has worked with micropatcher at least. Any ideas? I won't like to go back now that it seems to work.
I now installed BS 11.3.1 with micropatcher 0.5.1 and EIZO 2nd monitor works as bevor. So the opencore seams to have an issue here.

I walked away from this thread for a few months and was surprised to see this with MBP6,2 being a successfully tested model. Does this mean that we can now expect MBP6,2 (Legacy NVidia graphics) to run Big Sur with graphics acceleration?

don't be too surprised, because the applications that need and depend on the api metal, are not working and some even crash.

It's worth the test. It is very promising.

Does Micropatcher work correctly with BigSur version 11.3.1?
This is not a question of the patcher used, it is the new kernel causing on boot on some systems a curious situation where some modules are not completely loaded when others assume it has to be done already (race condition).

On the iMac11,x and 12,x this happens during installation only (sometimes on the reboot). Force a reboot ans the installation proceeds and finishes successfully.

On some MacPro systems with special hardware neither the installation nor the normal boot works from 11.3 onwards.

Big Sur success 11.2.3 on Mini3,1. OCLP 0.1.2 as nimble as Catalina running from external SSD. Worth the effort.

HOW?!!!! HOW?!! You see, I currently have an Early 2009 C2D iMac @2.66GHz with 8GB 1333 RAM. Using an HDD. Can you pls teach me? My grandma is gonna give me an iMac Late 2009, but I want to try first with Early 2009 iMac. Same GPU, same release dates, same amount of RAM, pls help me! Thx

Updated MBP5,2 to 11.3.1 from 11.3.
This is a system-volume-patched system, to have graphics acceleration.

The update was offered in system settings. Download a little above 11GB, I stopped it to use the full installer.
Started the 11.3.1 installer app. Stage 1 is announced to take about 1.5h, so stopped this as well.

Then made with createinstallmedia a new USB installer for 11.3.1, and installed this via OCLP 0.1.2. One freeze during installation, retried with manual power-off and reboot od macOS installer via 0.1.2, then proceeds right to login. Ran 0.1.2 in booted system to re-apply graphics acceleration patches.

All running fine. Setting up prior to graphics acceleration patching is a bit slow, but once done, the MBP5,2 is still a very usable system with BS.
Can u pls tell me how u did the Big Sur installation? Thx!

Successfully updated to macOS Big Sur 11.4 Beta 2 my MBP mid 2012 - 13" using Barry's micropatcher v.0.5.1. Everything working perfect.

Seems to be a number of people want to go the OCLP installation now, but are asking questions about how. I'm a BarryKN micropatcher 0.5.1 holdout who just made the switch to OCLP first with BSur 11.3 on top of my existing micropatcher 0.5.1 installation of 11.3; then second an OTA update to 11.3.1. My device is in my signature: rMPB mid-2012, 10,1 with Wifi upgrade.

For the how to: I used the guide https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/ from Page 1 for all of the steps.
  1. OpenCore Legacy Patcher by @khronokernel and @dhinakg is a completely different approach based on OpenCore. Detailed information is available from his announcement on this thread and their guide. This is currently the only option offering system updates via Apple software update like all supported Macs. While the preparation uses a simple GUI the Big Sur installation and updating happens in the same way as on supported systems.
The first part of the guide has you check your device to see if it is supported, instructs you to download the latest OCLP (0.2.1 for me) and prepare a USB install drive in the normal way using createinstallmedia. If you've been using micropatcher then you know this step well.

The next step of the process is very simple following "Building and installing OpenCore" section of the guide.

After that the next section of the guide is "Booting OpenCore and MacOS". Just do as it says.

After your install to your main drive (I did not reformat; just put it right on top of existing 11.3 -- all data is unharmed), the guide has you go to "Post-installation" section which for me consisted of making sure verbose mode was not enabled (it wasn't by default), and checking "Assume upgraded wifi -- always" was showing "currently false". This setting seems backwards until you read the patcher setting notes that say the OCLP detects the presence of an upgraded wifi card and does not need to change setting from false to true. In others words: leave it as default.

To boot without the USB drive plugged in is done easily using the "Set showpicker mode" step #6 of the settings. Just follow the instructions. One part, the last, is not clear, and if not done, you will not be able to startup without the USB drive. To find out what I missed, enter the "Troubleshooting" part of the guide; read the "Cannot boot MacOS without the USB".

Here is what it says to do:
"By default, the OpenCore Patcher won't install OpenCore onto the internal drive itself during installs. Instead, you'll need to either manually transfer OpenCore to the internal drive's EFI or run this patcher's Option 2 again but select your internal drive.
Reminder that once this is done, you'll need to select OpenCore in the boot picker again for your hardware to remember this entry and auto boot from then on."
It is this last sentence that I forgot to do. Once done, the BSur 11.3 booted normally.

Now the last thing, and the whole reason I did this OCLP switch-over. To upgrade to BSur 11.3.1, I simply used the normal System Preferences->Software Update. The how-to-do-this is easy: do it just like you do with a supported device. And, just fyi, I had been enrolled in the beta program, so at first I was offered the 11.4 beta 2 updater. If you unenroll, then 11.3.1 was the updater. The whole update from 11.3 to 11.3.1 took about 25 minutes.

So I hope this helps a little. It was an easy process with a great guide. The hardest part was to take the plunge after so many successful installs using the installassistant.pkg and BarryKN's micropatcher. Was it worth it? Yes! Good luck!

Hello everybody. Amateurish question to the sophisticated: Is it possible to install BS 11.3.1 with OCLP over installed BS 11.3.1 patched by Barry's micropatcher v.0.5.1. to iMac 14.2?

Have been using OCLP since going to 11.2.3 and the OTA updates have been great, currently on 11.4 beta 2 build 20F5055c. Most everything is good, but somewhere in either 11.4 beta the ability to unlock my rMBP via Apple Watch no longer works. I've disabled the ability to unlock via AW and re-enabled but every time my rMBP goes to sleep, it tried to unlock with AW but falls back to password prompt. I know, this is a first world problem and not a deal breaker but I had gotten used to the ease of unlocking so much so that I'm missing this feature. Hopefully this is due to the "beta" state of 11.4 and developers will catch it - as I hope its not with OCLP. My Wifi (updated card) and BT work fine otherwise (ok, the wifi signal is a bit weak but does get 802.11ac connection).

Just thought I'd share...
Found out that I had to perform a restart on my Apple Watch, upon next lock, my AW was able to unlock my rMBP - WooHoo!!!

That is a preferred way in fact. If you look at my post above, I installed 11.3 OCLP 0.1.2 over my 11.3 BarryKN micropatch 0.5.1. The only drawback is that you won't get the excitement of doing an OTA update from 11.3.1 to a newer MacOS (unless you want to try 11.4 beta 2!

Big Sur 11.3.1 has improved RAM memory management.
Very notable on the Air 2012 i5 4GB RAM
OpenCore 0.6.8
I have same machine, I agree. Really a shame its not supported but with OCLP it might as well be. I put a faster MX500 1TB in mine and its still very usable in 2021 for Air like tasks.

Who would have thought -- use the oldest fix in the book of tricks: when in doubt shutdown and restart! :)

Thanks for letting us know; be sure to edit your original post to reflect "Solved".

Thank you! I`ll do it just now!

So, I did it. Installed 11.3.1 OCLP 0.1.2 over my 11.3.1 BarryKN micropatch 0.5.1. on my iMac 14.2 late 2013.
And have a problem. There is no signal on my 2nd monitor NEC PA301w wia TB. It was OK before OCLP installation. Need HELP!

Currently being investigated here:

- External Display receives no signal anymore - Github

Seeing as you have an iMac14,2, would you like to try the below build? You'll need to mount the EFI drive where you installed OpenCore onto, easiest way is with MountEFI. Then replace the EFI/OC and System/ folders

Careful replacing the entire EFI folder if you have Windows or Linux installed, as EFI/Microsoft hold their bootloader

Thank you, but unfortunately after replacing folders there is still no signal. Probably have to go back BS 11.3.1 with BarryKN micropatcher from Time Machine

From 11.4 Beta1 to 11.4 Beta 2
Issue - freezes on every reboot in update process.
After update and applying system volume patch - works fine.

Screenshot app is broken in 11.3.1. No controls gets stuck open, use esc to dismiss. Was OK in 11.2.3. OCLP 0.1.2 into Mini3,1. Can you confirm?

Cmd-Shift 5 opens Screenshot for me on 11.3.1; or you can click on the App in the Launchpad. All functions seem normal.

Also Preview->File->Take Screenshot works.
