How come Energy Saver is not appearing in Preferences? It appears on my still-supported Mac mini 2018 running BS, but not on my BS+OCLP rMBP 10,1

I was thinking of testing auto-switching from the intel gpu to the Nvidia one but there's no Energy Saver option appearing in Preferences. Not a big deal, just happened to notice.

It's renamed to "Battery" on laptops in Big Sur.

My device is same rMBP 10,1 on BS 11.4 but done with BarryKN's 0.5.1 micropatcher. I need to disable displaypolicyd to enable dynamic switching (monitor with Cody Krieger's gfxCardStatus v.2.5). I'm not sure but I think OCLP enables dynamic switching for our machines, but I don't know how it gets around the displaypolicyd dependency.

@startergo ferreted out the answer: https://github.com/mooons/darwin-xn...aa54967f04ca5f8/bsd/kern/kern_csr.c#L177-L183

Big Sur apparently fixes this discrepancy on boot but possibly due to OC namespacing or similar, the fix may not work on exotic setups such as ours. Implementing the Big Sur fix in RefindPlus.
That makes a lot more sense now - I was testing on a hackintosh and I believe @Bmju was too. As it doesn't really provide any notable benefits for most, it's good practice to just leave it off.

An obscure bug either in Big Sur and/or OCLP which is not seen with @dosdude1/Catalina. MiniDisplayPort to HDMI connections generate intermittent boot-up stalls at about 20% progress resulting in the NOPE! icon (circle w/horizontal bar) and a full-fan power button restart. MDP to VGA connection, stalls not present, boots every time perfectly without fail. Tested at various resolutions on two separate Mini3,1s and two different displays with both VGA and HDMI inputs - a LG 22" and a Samsung 46" 120Hz. LED TV which has a VGA input socket. Have yet to test on an iMac. This was seen in all builds of macOS 11 w/ OCLP from v.0.1.1 on. 🧐 FWIW

I am seeing the same issue on my 3,1 Mac Pro with GTX680 DVI connection to 30” ACD. I’m not able to test any other connection type.

Thanks for the tip there re 'Power Saving' now appearing as 'Battery' on laptops ASentientBot

I had switching turned off before installing BS+OCLP. The m/c is always plugged in anyway so saw no real benefit from that power saving feature.

It's now appearing as switched on, I did not turn it on. I've left it switched on and will pull the power and see what happens as it gets low on juice.

Edit: Seems to be working. Thrashing a 3D model in Sketchup, assuming I'm reading it right, activates the ext GPU, everything else not

Edit, later still: FCPX also opens using the nVidia. The fans also started up as expected. So switching is definitely working. I'll disable switching and test just using the nVidia, it's always been a little bit smoother.

Vielen Dank @Ausdauersportler! I have Microphone & Camera in Chrome back, but I have problem with Safari. My Safari auto shutdowns after 2-3 minutes. How can I do? Thank you in advance for your support!

Honestly I do not know! These graphics patches are in the beta test and I wonder why you enter such a test when needing the same system for your daily work ;-)

Ah, now it makes sense. I did not relate the hangs to my GPU experiments. But now I can confirm those unsuccessful boots caused by DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapters on some of my Nvidia metal cards (i.e. GT 630)! Big Sur 11.5b1 and b2 affected, might have started earlier, though.

I understand that there is a separate thread specifically for Mac Pros. Can someone please point me to that?

Hey-up, friends - could someone please comment on the following:

- Are the tools currently discussed here, well, safe? Are they open-source, and if so, has anyone knowledgeable examined them for malicious code?
- Is it possible to instal patched macOS on a separate partition / removable medium to take it for a 'spin'?

Many thanks in advance!

Guys, i have a question, i haven't post here since big sur Launch, 'cause it was almost imposible to get graphics acceleration on a mid 2010 whitebook, but today reading the star of this thread i see that @ASentientBot achieved the imposible (getting graphics acceleration on big sur) the question is how can i install big sur on my MacBook 7,1 (mid 2010 whitebook) as i was saying i haven't read this thread since i had the disappointing news that it was imposible to achieve graphics acceleration on the whitebook...Can anyone help me to know the easiest way to install big sur, i was reading that now you guys use opencore instead of the old method of using the tool from @dosdude1 , but how you do it, please help me 'cause i have never touched opencore in my life... and thanks guys! I'm still on catalina 10.15.6

You are in luck.😁 Start here: https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/INSTALLER.html#downloading Get OCLP, here: https://github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/releases Enjoy the ride.😎

just a quick note for OCLP 0.1.6 and OC 0.70

OCLP built a package with OC 0.7.0 what was not able to install or run Big Sur 11.2.3 on a Mac Pro 5.1

On my test rig the OCLP Package 0.1.5 I built last week (with OC 0.6.9) installed without any problems.

its 3 A.M. here so I need some sleep now, no time for more details, just want to give a little hint before someone else steps into the same trap :)
