So I was able to convert a wheezing old unmodified iMac 11,3 (Mid-2010) from High Sierra to Big Sur 11.7.2.

Luckily it had 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB drive, bad news is that it's an old Terascale GPU and a platter drive, and the dual core CPU instead of the quad core (uggh), so the upgrade took roughly four hours..

Still have to check to see if it does HTTP 5 streams properly but hey it boots Big Sur on a 12 year old machine!

Next project will be to swap out the platter drive for an SSD.. yeah yeah it's not going to be a huge speed jump going to a SATA SSD but the platter drive feels like it's on it's way out after a long life.
You should consider to exchange the GPU to have full metal support. Your iMac11,3 will be happy recipient of nearly all donor cards we ever tested…

Hi,

I just “upgraded” an iMac Late 2012 with an existing Bootcamp via OCLP 0.53 to Big Sur 11.7.2. So far everything works, even the existing bootcamp.

Just chipping in.

Jesus, revert to OLCP 0.4.11 - you do not need the latest version for Big Sur.

In other words: Download 0.4.11 app, start it, select build and install OpenCore, after installation reboot into Big Sur, do not touch any settings or patches and check sound. Check the OCLP docs about upgrading (it is downgrading here).
Hello. I have an SSD drive. I had to reinstall the system. Repeated the procedure, but there is no sound = ((( what to do?

Trying to save myself from reading 470 pages ... Is there a good point to start reading after page 1?

I'll be installing on MacPro 3,1 with ATI Radeion HD 4870 and USB 2. Only need basic functionality. Had been bumping this machine up every year with DosDudes patchers. Need to do to keep up with TurboTax requirements. Machine returns to a different hard drive with older OS for the rest of the year.

Thanks!

Use the search engine, start with MacPro 3,1 and then according to your Hardware and system requirements for the tax app. When you post here state the version of OCLP you used and the other related facts, like what does Turbo Tax require. That will help in getting relevant answers.

Hi. I've updated OsX on macMini servers 2011 from 10.13 to 11.6.2 (OCLP 0.5.3). Now I have XSAN 7. Old XSAN clients are connected to XSAN but I can not import XSAN Profile with new clients. What is the reason and how to resolve the problem? Thanks. BTW Now I can not connect to MacMini servers over ssh.

You don't need the latest OCLP version for Big Sur.

Have you tried 0.4.11 instead of 0.5.3?

I tested 0.5.1 then 0.5.2 and finally 0.5.3 and got strange things with these last 3 versions with Big Sur.

Since I reverted to 0.4.11 everything works well.

I've tried versions from 0.4.11 till 0.5.3. There is no ssh access for MacMini 2011 under 11.6.2 Server

Hi,

i have yesterday successfully upgraded to Big Sur with my iMac 2011 21,5 with 16 GB, SSD and vanilla GPU. Everything is working fine, including sound from internal speakers (I used oclp 0.4.11)

One minor issue:

Apple TV and Prime Video streaming is not working and when I try to stream via Safari in prime video, it is suggested to use the latest version of safari. I just upgraded to latest version.

Any workarounds to use Video streaming?

thx in advance Fridolin

This doesn't work in Safari or Apple TV using the stock GPU. You'd need to upgrade to an AMD GCN GPU (AMD GCN4 aka Polaris GPUs work for sure) and maybe set moderate spoofing in OCLP.
Check the first post of the "2011 iMac Graphics Card Upgrade" thread for the details.

Streaming in chrome is working with Prime Video.
Ok, and for both apps I should make an GPU upgrade.
nothing serious for me:) I mainly use the iMac for some office work and YouTube streaming.
You will be a happy person if you upgrade your old iMac. Good Luck.✌️

Hi folks, happy new year I successfully install macOS 11.7.2 with OPLC 0.5.3 on my Mac Pro 5,1 with a Radeon Pro w5700 two days ago, but I get a glitch sometimes when I startup the machine I don't get displays (Apple Cinema Display HD 30inch with apple D-DVI adapter) output and I must disconnect and connect the displays, sometimes I get one display on and other off, and I check that doesn't save the screen settings like screen calibration, wallpaper and brightness, someone have the same problems and the must important there's any solution...

I just bring my imac 2011 from High Sierra to Big Sur 11.7.2. Can i upgrade via Apple intern upgrade or should i wait for oclp 11.7.2? Do i have to make the whole procedure again? Boot from usb and install via oclp and root patcher?

Thx in advance

You can use software update in preference and after update reinstall root patches which is very important.
