I came back with the MBP above, and I wasn't expecting such a solid and well-functioning system as I just found in Big Sur, I was in Monterey and Ventura for a while, but had to return as one of my Kingston SSDs died (I don't recommend that brand, the unless your budget is tight, as in my case).

Hello from Spain,

I have installed today monterrey and Big sur, I want to use Imovie and in High Sierra some of the photos from my Iphone 11 doesn’t work alright.

The problem is that neither in monterrey nor big sur, imovie is working.

I have a MacBook Pro 8.1, 2,3gh Intel Core i5 DN, Intel HD Graphics 3000 512Mb, 480gb ssd, 16gb Ram.

What could be the problem?

Should I install Catalina for imovie?

Thanks in advance

iMovie, Keynote and some other Apple apps require hardware that supports Metal. Your MBP 8,1 (like mine) does not. Have a look here for a solution.

Then, if ai do what they say in the link, imovie will work? What is better to install? Big sur, Monterrey o Ventura?
Thanks
Something seems to be faulty with that link. I had tried to lead you to the section "Downloading older non-Metal Apps". Following that link you'll be able to find a DL link for iMovie 10.1.12 which is the last version to work on non-Metal hardware.
Stay away from Ventura - there are major glitches -, but you should be fine with Monterey. Generally speaking it's a very good idea to read everything on the official OCLP site carefully.
Do you use Microsoft Office? Search this thread for 16.49. That's the last version of Word, that works properly.

Many Apple apps now have direct reliance on Metal for proper functioning, however legacy builds of these apps still do work in Big Sur. See below for archive of many apps such as Pages, iMovie, GarageBand.

Note: This archive assumes that you own these copies of these apps through the Mac App Store, Dortania does not condone piracy

11.7.5 is running well for me! I've noticed this thread isn't too active these days. I'm guessing many people have moved on to Monterey or Ventura. For those of you staying on Big Sur, what are your reasons? Does Big Sur work best on your hardware? Are you sticking with it because it has the best compatibility with OCLP? Are you waiting till Apple's Big Sur support ends this October and moving to Monterey at that point? I'm using OCLP on my main Mac, so compatibility and stability are important to me. I thought about waiting till October, but I am temped to move on to Monterey until I feel it's safe enough to switch to Ventura.

I'm just using macOS versions until the end of support and then move on to the next version.

Though I have 2 OS on my Macbook Air I am dropping BigSur. BigSur gives art effects while opening safari but Ventura works good for me as of now, maybe will stick to it as the last OS for Unsupported mac. :)

UPdate

Safari issue got resolved with OCLP 0.6.3 nightly build.

Big Sur 11.7.5 seems to be working great on a Mid 2012 MBP without any root patches.

Keeping this as a standby OS. However, my Daily Driver is Ventura OS which is much smoother & faster. ;)

I really like how AirPods Pro work with my 13 inch MBP 2012(Big Sur). I don't understand why it was not possible under the official Catalina. I am normally still happy using Mojave but Big Sur is worth installation just for the AirPods and the working function keys of the Apple Magic Keyboard. I hope that this is not just a case of the "fresh macOS installs always work better at first".

Here also problems with safari 16.4. and not with BigSur, because I didn´t upgrade.
Revert patches and patch, again! Safari updates need patching, too.

Correct myself after checking the code:
This webkit patching is (currently) a Monterey issue, only. So only Monterey Safari updates currently benefit from re-patching.

Did I read you correctly that you are running Ventura on MacBook Air 2011 with OCLP? Does it work with USB and does it need any external BLE solution? My MacBook Air 2011 has an upgraded Broadcom BCM943224

Mine is currently using High Sierra (last supported) and DosDude patched Catalina. The latter is running into bogus code signing rejection of some apps.
I use Monterey and Ventura with OCLP 0.62 on a cMP 5,1 with great success. My main machines are Mac Studio and MacBook Pro M1 plus a 2018 MacBook Pro.

Yes you read correctly as my Signature below I have both BigSur & Ventura (Used OCLP) running super well in my stock OEM Macbook Air 2011 model without any hardware upgrades. Only minor issue is the built in 4GB ram is inadequate and you get some lag.
It doesnot require any external BLE solution. I only made a USB stick to install but never required to work out of USB so cannot tell.

My suggestion is Upgrade to Ventura or BigSur using OCLP as Catalina and Dosdude patcher is outdated and no more supported.
Since you are using the lastest OS in your other machines with success give it a go for your Macbook Air too. Cheers

Hello everyone,

I managed to get Big Sur (and the lowest version of Big Sur (which is 11.5.2) I could get from the Mac servers via OCLP) installed on my 2009 21.5" iMac via OCLP (The installation was a terrible experience really) and this is what I got:

oc.jpg

I tried things out for a couple of minutes, then went over to the left corner and opened Software Update and out popped an update for 11.7.5 directly from Apple.

So my questions are:

Should I install it? I do not know enough to know if I should install updated directly from Apple, or do I need to do the update by the OCLP process with the USB drive again?

And is 11.5.2 stable on the iMac 21.5" and I should leave it alone?

Or should I have more aspirations in the future and try to install Montery or Ventura on this 2009 21.5" iMac? I am worried that it might not be able to handle it due to the aging specs, or there might be other new bugs? What do you all think? I'm new to installing new OS'es on aging Macs, looking forward to your replies!

Ok, I encountered my first (second) problem:

I noticed that there were artifacts on the sidebar, I looked around the OCLP settings and applied the "Beta blur" setting and that fixed it, good.

Later I put the iMac to sleep, when i came back, moving my mouse and clicking things turned it into this:

IMG_20230406_141549.jpg

It looks bad, but one workaround is to log out and log in, that would fix it. For the short term at least, for the long term I can't be doing this all the time and need a permanent fix. Does anyone know what is going on and how to fix it?

I have a similar 2009 21.5” iMac running fine for my needs (basic functions) with the 11.7.5. Update via Apple’s OTA is fine. There is no need to update via OCLP generated installation USB unless there’s some serious issues with the macOS.
Your 2009 iMac graphics card may be upgradable (MXM). If this is the case, I strongly recommend you to do an upgrade for around $50, which will give you a much better compatible Big Sur by following https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/2011-imac-graphics-card-upgrade.1596614/ . If you can upgrade the wifi card as well, you will have a near perfect iMac capable running Monterey (even Ventura with some minor issues).
P.S. my 2009 iMac is not upgradable. The graphics chip is on the main board.

Ok, some google brought me to this:

So can anyone give me clear steps on how to downgrade from 11.5 to 11.2.3, just asking to make sure I do it right or else I would have to spend extra time doing it again.

I am currently downloading the 11.2.3 installer.
