I think something's planned for Launchpad, quite telling it's been removed from the keyboard of the M1 Macs. It's also a surprising neglected for a core feature of macOS remaining unchanged since it's introduction with Lion in 2011. It needs a complete overhaul.

Personally I can see them incorporating Launchpad into the Dock so you click a button and the Dock expands to show all your Apps.

So... quite similar to the Applications folder sitting in the dock and displaying as a grid when clicked on?

Essentially, but with search, ability to delete apps, suggested apps and a rearrangeable grid for favourite apps.

I'm not sure they can do App Library like on iOS given the Mac is an open platform.

Interesting theory indeed. A small annoyance of mine is that the "Other" folder hasn't been renamed to "Utilities" as it should. I filed feedback reports on this year after year, only to have it ignored.

I think the issue Apple has is that, purely from a design perspective, the Dock, Launchpad, Applications folder (Finder) and even the applications pane on the right-side of the Dock - if inserted as a folder - are all fighting for the user’s attention. Choice is good, but I think Apple could do with streamlining it.

My main issue with Launchpad is that it hasn’t been modernised. It was introduced with Lion as part of the iOS-ification era and received only minor updates since. Even down to the laziness of not extending the grid area for 16:9 aspect ratios, which looks absolutely ridiculous and is a total waste of space.

Basic improvements would include the ability to switch the ‘pages’ of apps around (like the iOS 15 home screens), to feature Widgets wherever the user wants within the grid space (thus not limiting the user to a small pane on the right-side of the screen), and the ability to ‘sort’ apps just as you would in Finder.

Don't know if anybody else here uses Spotlight, but that's actually going to be way faster to find and launch an app than launchpad or App Library would on macOS, as you can bring up spotlight (or even Raycast, which is what I use now) while within any other app.

I actually have the applications folder in my dock, but think 99% of the time, I launch apps using Spotlight/Raycast as it's much easier.

Similarly on my phone too, I just pull down for spotlight and search rather than trying to dig through the App Library or pages/folders to find an application.

-----I've always wanted this. Another gesture I could potentially see used as a trigger would be swiping up on the Dock or from the bottom of your trackpad with three or four fingers.
Launched has been 3 (or 4?) finger punch for forever. I see no reason to change it.

Keyboard Setup Assistant has a new look matching the first time setup screens.

Did Time Machine previously list its progress with a percentage, e.g., "42% done (547MB copied)"? Feels new to me (and I like it!) but possibly not remembering the earlier version correctly.
Something has changed, but I can't quite remember what it used to say. I believe it used to say "x GB of y GB" instead of the percent, but I'm not sure.
