I guess. I just expected them to stay where they were rather than being deleted during the update. I guess things are different with sealed snapshots...
It was like this already with Catalina and the dosdude1 patches - patches go to /System/Library/Extensions, ../Frameworks etc where they get overwritten with the content coming with the new OS version. Patches thus need to be reapplied, and kernel caches, snapshots etc remade.

Some of the patches modify original files and it is normal to get overwritten. But some like Nvidia drivers are the original drivers from early Monterey, which don't exist in the later revisions. Logically they should be untouched.

I guess, whole kexts' folder to be overwritten during upgrade. Which isn't usual way of things, of course.
In addition to /System/Library/Extensions, there is also /Library/Extensions, /Library/Frameworks etc.
I remember that a while ago old kexts in there, coming from Catalina by migration, interfered with new ones coming with Big Sur, and I had to delete the entire contents of /Library/Extensions.
Also non-Apple kexts coming with 3rd party hardware went there, and survived OS updates.

Maybe this is the way to keep the necessary Nvidia things from disappearing?

Safari and Firefox work fine in 12.0.1, with and without root patches of 0.3.1.

Will downgrade Monterey on my internal drive from 12.1b3 to 12.0.1, until 12.1 release comes out and is stable with 0.3.1.
Big Sur 11.6.2 in another partition of the internal drive is still my daily working and reference system.

EDIT: forgotten to mention that I had tried to replace the WebKit.framework in 12.1b3 with the one from 12.0.1. It didn't help Safari in 12.1b3 and didn't harm either.
It is not that simple; otherwise the brilliant people would have found out since long.
12.0.1 on my internal drive behaves quite well now. Installed, patched and booting it with OCLP 0.3.1.

I used this procedure for downgrading from 12.1b3 to 12.0.1:
- made a data-only backup from my reference system Big Sur 11.6.2 to Monterey 12.1b3 with CCC 6.0.5
- removed the APFS volume for the Monterey system using disk utility
- renamed Monterey data to Monterey using disk utility
- installed 12.0.1 from full installer.
The normal way would have been to clean install 12.0.1 and then migrate the user data from a backup. The above just bypasses full migration but used what is already in the data volume.

Now that I have used Safari in 12.0.1 release (patched with 0.3.1 release) for long enough, I saw the first freeze... restarted Safari to continue. - Looking at Discord the solution may be underway.

Having a patched root volume the update itself is of the same size as a full installer. This looks like security measure Apple is applying when finding a tampered root volume - nothing remains the same :)

Don’t know if my MacBook Pro 2014 is having a bad week or not on beta 3 with about 50% battery left and my
MacBook keeps switching off when unplugged don’t really think it’s related to the beta although battery is reporting as normal on it fine between 50 to 100%.

Boot with D pressed to check the battery.

AHOY!? The most recent OCLP_032N fixes the Beta 3 browsers problems. Both Safari and Firefox back to normal. ?
Confirmed on MBP5,2, with both 12.1b3 and 12.0.1.
Rather than using the latest 0.3.2 nightly, I was using the OCLP 0.3.1 release with the minimal substitution of SkyLight.framework binaries taken from a Discord link.
Sure enough BlurBeta is also part of this SkyLight.

Many thanks to ASentientBot and friends!!
Now 12.0.1 and 12.1b3 are production-ready for me with my rather limited graphics requirements; Photos works well, and systems are stable.

Hi to all!

My CMP 5.1 (flashed 4.1) 2009 updated from macOS Monterey 12.1 Beta 2 to 12.1 Beta 3 at last week.
All works fine, and better than "final" 12.01
OCLP - 0.3.2 NB
Updated without issues, works fine with flashed HD 7950 3GB.
GC-Alpine Ridge works normally, without SSDT ( Titan Ridge SSDT - crashed system on wake from sleep)

Thanks for all contributors!!!

I’m curious, did you also get the USB 3.0 ports (via ExpressCard/34) working again in 12.1b3? If not, maybe the older RehabMan drivers could still work?

This OCLP_032 version is probably as good as it can get on these primitive Mac models, overall performance akin to Mojave/Catalina. Catalyst worts seem improved, too.

Didn't try yet but will do right away.
Mouse still works with these USB3 ports as before. Now connecting a SSD to them, and if it won't work, will try the drivers you mention. Thanks for the link.

Can they not be installed in /L/E instead?
Honestly, I do not know!

Injection will fail since the patch set contain bundle files, too. So I guess the root volume patching was a choice made because the software framework to get it done was already there.

If you need a single other private framework added to the root volume in /S/L/PF or a kernel extension to be replaced in /S/L/E it would not really help to have some files stored in /S/L.

Unfortunately I do not have Kepler card here to test this. You may find the current patch set here.

Installed the GenericUSBXHCI.kext to my 12.1b3 testing ssd, but it didn't help - mouse still working with the USB3 ports, but connecting a SSD stops cursor reaction.
That is with 12.1b3. Yet to try 12.0.1.

Edit: without GenericUSBXHCI.kext at least, 12.0.1 can't use the USB3 card with storage device either.
