Hi @5tracks. Absolutely don't need to be a developer to download and install Safari 16.1.
Just start from the original Apple page to download "Safari Technology Preview" and in center of page you will also find the link to Safari 16.1 for Big Sur or Monterey.
Enjoy :)
Running SilentKnight prompted to install the latest version of Safari, not the beta 16.1, along with an update to version 74 of the XProtect Remediator, Apple's hidden protection software, which can get pushed (sometimes not) to your machine.
SilentKnight always picks it up if it is out of date. https://eclecticlight.co/lockrattler-systhist/

For anyone who doesn't keep a dual boot: You can also etract the Efi file manually from the install image and flash it via terminal
Code:
sudo /usr/sbin/bless -firmware LOCATION/MBPXXX.scap --verbose --recovery
WOW! That's much easier than my method! Wish I had known about it sooner. Now that Catalina is not getting security updates anymore, I think 429.0.0.0.0 is likely the last firmware

Works for me, but maybe that's because I'm logged in to iCloud. If you're getting a username/password prompt, try your apple-id and password.
I did try my appleID, it prompted me to sign an apple Developer license agreement, so I backed out.

12.6 full OTA update is perfect on my late 2012 13" rMBP with OCLP 0.4.10

However I do experience occasional severe performance drop with Safari 16 and 16.1 beta1 on some websites like Youtube, Reddit and Discord, when it's not lagging, the CPU usage is also higher than Firefox.

I think you just answered my question about whether Beta 1 solved the CPU spike issue with Safari 16.

I sure hope it gets fixed soon.
Safari 16 is basically unusable for me right now, but I rely on it for the handoff and cloud syncing.

Firefox is working good for me, I agree Safari 16 is pretty broken, have had numerous problems with it.

Hi, just wanted to inquire how your Monterey install is faring particularly on the MBP 11,1 after several weeks of use ... any regrets or all smooth sailing & recommend? Any overheating or undue fan issues? Cheers!
There were some glitches (such as the window server crashing) at the beginning, probably due to the machines being very busy right after the upgrade; but afterwards, everything has been working at least as well as in Big Sur, if not better (for example, Monterey’s Time Machine is much better than the previous ones): the only remaining glitches are the “volume hash mismatch” notification appearing randomly on the 11,1 (which BTW requires no OCLP root patches for Monterey support, and has SIP and SSV completely enabled), and the Acronis “some missing windows” problem I talked about previously on the 11,3 (which requires the Kepler root patch for Monterey support, and has SIP enabled and SSV disabled); a remaining annoyance on the 11,3 is also that auto-patching doesn’t work, and at every system update one must restart in safe mode and manually root patch from there (of course, the 11,1 doesn’t have this problem). So, I’d say that the experience has remained quite good and stable on both models, after the minor problems of the initial, immediately post-upgrade days; and no overheating or fan issues, sofar…

I have MacBook pro 11,1 Late 2013 running 12.6 and don't have all these problems, no glitches at all. For the Hashmissmatch, you need to go into Miscellaneous Settings in OCLP and partially disable features and re-install OCLP. Clean fresh install is recommended.

Hi @JDJones92, did you notice any issue if you open Google Maps with the latest Safari?

I don't use any Kext in my MacBookPro11,2 and after updating to Monterey 12.6 and Safari 16, I am getting a black screen in Google Maps+Safari just like @khronokernel described it would happen for Ventura on iGPUs (https://github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/issues/998)

Could you please check yours?

Thank you

Are you guys having the issues above? When I open maps.google.com and zoom in/out a couple of times, the maps turn black.

Thank you

and partially disable features
Could you tell me please what the features need to be disabled? For MacBook11,1 only one is picked.
I remember I asked you about Volume Hash Mismatch in April. You had this error then. Now you don't have it, right?

Yes, final releases of Monterey and Safari on 2013 MBA.

Did not occur on same computer with Technology Preview Release 153 (Safari 16.0, WebKit 17615.1.4.1) or on 2017 iMac with standard Safari.

I used to have it till on of the guys around here told me to disable or partially disable it and since the I never had it. The features are Universal Control and and Share Play if you hover over it in Miscellaneous Settings it wil tell you.

^^^ Disabling WebGL via Metal works, for the Google Maps in Safari glitch; in Safari, go to: Develop menu (enable it, if it’s not there) —> Experimental Features —> WebGL via Metal (untick). As for the volume hash mismatch error, I’ll try the suggestions above: thanks…

Thanks for the excellent feedback - the only thing that gives me pause is the “volume hash mismatch” business, which it appears is an unresolved issue in Monterey across several updates since ~12.2, also in supported machines, as detailed here:

I will do the Universal Control and Share Play OCLP feature disable solution suggested by Shafez on a test partition and hope for the best. If the issue does not arise inside 14 days of testing then I will go for the upgrade to 12.6 over my working Big Sur install.

Hardware crashes on Mac Pro (Early 2009) upgraded to OSX 12.5.1:

I'm posting here, hoping to get some help or insight into my problem. I recently sent away my Mac Pro (Early 2009) to be modded by a reliable guy. Now I have a Mac Pro with OSX 12.5.1, 192 GB of RAM, and a Radeon RX 580 8 GB gfx card. I'm in heaven!

However, within the first 48 hours, I noticed that certain apps were crashing the Mac completely. For example, I was using a 3rd-party noise filter inside of Adobe Photoshop when the Mac made a fast whine and shut down. Dead! The crash felt like someone had pulled the plug on the Mac Pro. Just to make sure I had not pulled a fuse, I plugged the Mac into a separate outlet but got the same results.

A few things I noted: After the crash, I was unable to startup the Mac by pressing the power button on the front of the Mac Pro. It won't respond. I HAVE to unplug and replug the Mac into the AC outlet for me to be able to restart the Mac. The second thing I am noticing is that all the crashes have occurred on apps that are the Captain Jack Sparrow version--if you get my drift. My Adobe Creative Cloud apps, which are fully legal, are never crashing. I think this has to do with SIP.

When I called my guy who had modded the machine, he told me that he had seen this before. He told me that this is not a hardware issue but, in fact, is caused by his having to disable SIP in order to run the mod. He said that some older software causes a crash and brings down the Mac completely.

I am looking all over the forums to see if anyone can help me with this issue. My mod expert suggested I run Parallels on my Mac and run these apps within that. I am hoping some people have insight on this as well.

This is possibly not the thread where you find all the MacPro5,1 users. Check this thread about OC on the MacPro5,1, this thread about the Achilles heel of the MacPro5,1 (the firmware chip) and you will find plenty more about the hardware and all modifications.

Normally one can adjust the hardware in these machines to get a fully supported hardware without needing patches (patches would need disabling SIP), in your case a WiFi/BT upgrade would do the job.

I am not interested in making your illegal software working on your Mac…

Hey gang-

Been loving Monterey on my late-2013 iMac 14,2. However ran into my first "real" issue today- unable to create a bootable clone with either SuperDuper! or CCC. Latest versions of both.

SuperDuper fails with "Volume replication failed - error 49197"
CCC fails with "APFS Replication Procedure Failed"

I looked through Bombich excellent support page here. I thought I'd found the problem when they recommended deleting all SAT-SMART drivers (I run DriveDX). I did that and rebooted, erased and re-initialized the destination volume, but still failing with the same errors.

I’m running Mac OS Monterey 12.5.1 and OCLP 0.4.10. My source drive is my internal 4TB WD SSD and my destination drive is a 2TB external USB 3.0 Crucial SSD. I never had a problem creating a bootable clone with Catalina.

Any ideas? Thanks all!

Have this problem, too, with CCC; a recommended workaround is to make first an ordinary data clone, and then install macOS on top of that, in order to have a bootable clone: which works perfectly, even if of course it might take more time.

Thanks. Yep I saw that and if I can't solve this pretty quickly that's what I'll do. So weird since I was running a bootable clone of Catalina on the exact same Destination drive just a week ago.

Meanwhile, has anyone here running Monterey 12.5.1 and OCLP successfully made a bootable clone with SuperDuper or CCC?

You shouldn't have to do that. Just use CCC's legacy backup mode to create a bootable cloned drive.
