Maybe you need to remove and reapply post-install root patches because the Nvidia card needed patches which cause problems for the AMD drivers now?
Good idea, but I have no keyboard or mouse access immediately after I am able to log in on the problem cMP

However!

I do have a second macPro 5,1 with the same AMD Radeon Sapphire RX580 Graphics Card, so I'll attempt to do that with the drives on the macPro 4,1-5,1, assuming the post-install root patches are applied to the SSD drive with the OS.

I'll report back soon in case this helps anyone else who ends up with a similar problem.

This made no difference. - I still cannot use the wired keyboard or mouse after logging in. The machine freezes.

I also checked the disk was not corrupt - It boots successfully on my other macPro 5,1 and can be used on that machine.

I have also tested the Monterey disk from the working 5,1, in my macPro 4,1->5,1, and it does not progress beyond allowing me to log in. On this problem machine, Mojave and a newly created High Sierra work when booting natively.

I tried putting the Nvidia GT 640 card back in the macPro 4,1->5,1 machine, but I still cannot get past being able to log in with OpenCore 2.4.0 before the machine freezes at that point. I have tried a different USB hub, but it did not help.

I tried switching out the graphics card for the original non-metal card and ran the Apple Hardware test - no problems were detected - so I put the Nvidia card back into it.

So it's only with Opencore Legacy Patcher 2.4.0 that I am having this problem - booting into Native systems, Mojave, High Sierra, and El Capitan works.

I am hoping that someone has a solution??? - I am stuck!

Thanks in advance if you do.
