So I thought I'd have go for extra points after successfully patching Catalina on a 6'1 White unibody 2009 and put Monterey onto it. All has gone swimmingly well apart from the final part of My Macintosh's tutorial. The part where it should run the first step once again to enable a boot without the USB.. and sure enough it will not. I'm sure this has been covered already but would someone kindly point me in the right direction to resolve this annoyance?

Yeah, no-one needs answer that. One 13 years old laptop now running a one year old OS. Pretty great really. Good practice for my 9'2 mid 2012 about to get an SSD optical drive replacement and Ventura!

First off hats off to everyone that makes these things happen. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro (Mac Pro 8,1) running Monterey with Airdrop and continuity working beautifully. The one problem I can't fix however is the Bluetooth. It was the same on Catalina, so I installed a BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX hoping that would fix the problem, it didn't. Installed Monterey using OPLC and its still not working. I'm not sure its even being reported correctly in the system report.
Code:
Bluetooth Controller:

  Address: 20:C90:E4:97:E4

  State: On

  Chipset: BCM_20702A3

  Discoverable: Off

  Firmware Version: v156 c5914

  Product ID: 0x0001

Supported Devices: 0x382039 < HFP AVRCP A2DP HID Braille AACP GATT Serial >

  Transport: USB

  Vendor ID: 0x004C (Apple)

I can't connect my AirPods, or any headphones it seems. It may be a broken cable I'm not sure how to test. Does this card work in Monterey? Do I need another kext file? any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm all out of ideas now. I even rebuilt and installed OPLC on the advise of someone on Discord to see if that would fix the problem, but again no luck.

Guys, hello. I have been away from installing mac os on unsupported mac since selling by 2008 macbook pro couple years ago.(Used dosdude1 guide back then)

However, now I am in need of updating my sister's 2010 13'' macbook pro 7.1 to new mac os. Can you please fill me up on information that I missed duing last couple of years.
1. Will vetura be ever supported on this? If yes, I should probably wait for it.
2. Will everything work on Montery on this?
2a. If not, then what is the latest stable OS I can install?
2b. If not, what will not work?
3. Is this better than dosdude1 Catalina install guide?
4. Somewhat unrelated question: Can I install windows 10 on this via bootcamp?
4.a Do I need newer mac os for this or I can do that on any mac os version?
5.Currently 4GB Ram is installed. Max I can install is 8g?
5.a. Will 8gb run significantly faster than 4gb?

Hello, I just installed a combo mini PCI adapter + BCM94360CD wifi card on my macpro 3.1 to have bluetooth and wifi because I only had wifi (BCM43).

Now I have bluetooth but not wifi (the most important thing actually)

My mac pro recognizes the card like the old one but with ac chanels (see image).

Do you think it's because of a bad antenna connection, what is the correct order? I put like this (see image)

What's wrong ? May i reapply something or OCLP patch ?

Thanks

Hi,
I am on a MP 3,1 with 12.6.1 and installed 0.5.2 and boom ... no audio ... wtf ??
All worked well before ...
What happened ? I did install 0.4.10 + 0.4.11 + 0.5.0 + 0.5.1 and applied all root patches.
With all these versions no audio ...
I reinstalled Monterey and ... no audio ...

12.6.1. + 0.4.10 - 0.5.2 NO AUDIO.png

so it clearly has something to do with the (0.5.2) EFI.
Any ideas ?
Thanks !

Read through the last two pages, always a good idea before claiming to have invented the cold fusion.

A BCM94360CD should not need any patches. Did you remove any old patches when installing this card?

My BCM94360CD is identified differently. Maybe you have another card?

Well found the solution… I deleted the old SSIDs that the mac had in memory (advanced button) and manually re-filled the SSID name and password and it worked, the connection was made. Once connected it has scanned well and found the other networks present.
I also found a real standby without the fans running by removing the old bluetooth card

There is a procedure to create an USB macOS installer with OpenCore and even a tool doing this semi automatically.
Reason I'm asking is that I have Mojave on SSD with OC installed and Windows 10 and 11 each on a m.2. Just thinking it would be nice to have a bootable USB with the OC loader just in case the SSD fails for whatever reason.

Option# 6 in the OCLP app is for creating a bootable OCLP patched USB MacOS Installer. I do not think it is possible to run the actual OCLP app from within the booted MacOS installer though.

[heavy mechanical breathing]
I find your lack of faith in terminal.app disturbing.
[sssshhhhh]

(Granted, some libraries are not loaded with installer so most apps do not start and it's not a certain solution, but worth a shot.)

Taking my sweet time to read everything and watch tutorials on Youtube to get my head around this. Hopefully I have the guts to try the Opencore Legacy-version

Have 2 basic questions:

1: If anything goes to hell... can I just start from scratch and re-install High Sierra, the normal way? (as if I change to a new disk)
2: I have the iMac mid 2011 Intel i5 with the stock disk, 32gb ram and Radeon HD 6750M. Is it worth it? Will it sync wireless with my iphone?

I don´t mind minor graphic glitches and small bugs... but I want to be able to use the iMac effortless for daily use.

Would probably have been even more vivid in “Schwiizertütsch” (Swiss German)… :):D
Nobody would understand this - not even the neighbor living the in next Kanton :)

1.
There are not only glitches, a lot of (Apple and third party) software would simple not work any longer because of missing metal support.
You could replace your GPU with a metal one to circumvent all problems. Writing from my iMac12,2 with WX4170 GPU.
You would need a BT4/WiFiac upgrade to AirDrop with your iPhone.
(IMHO it is or was absolutely worth upgrading my iMac12,2 - fully supported with Monterey, no patching!)

(Check the first post of this thread and it‘s SPOILER named Newly Unsupported Software)

2.
If you create and keep the (OCLP) UBS Monterey installer you could always pass the High Sierra reinstallation step in case something goes seriously wrong.
If you keep a second High Sierra UBS installer even this step could be accelerated.
Reason I'm asking is that I have Mojave on SSD with OC installed and Windows 10 and 11 each on a m.2. Just thinking it would be nice to have a bootable USB with the OC loader just in case the SSD fails for whatever reason.
The normal OCLP USB installer is exactly what you are asking for. Just keep it!

I just completed a fresh install of Monterey on an iMac 2011 WX7100. After major troubles with a non-working brand new USB-stick, everything went fine. I had to jump right from High Sierra to Monterey 12.6.2 and used OCLP 0.4.11, which is the most recent version relevant to my machine.

Monterey works flawlessly! Everything is smooth!!!

But before continuing to setup this new machine and installing everything, I wanted to verify some drops in benchmarks I noticed. I am not concerned, because everything works perfectly. A slight reduction might even be expected, but I remembered a video, which I encountered when researching this upgrade, where a fresh install on a Mac Pro 5.1 produced a drop in GPU performance of about 30%, whereas an install above Big Sur saw no reduction in performance. When I ran the benchmarks after my install I remembered the research carried out by the author in this YouTube video. (link to the relative section in the video)

High SierraMonterey 12.6.2
Geekbench5 CPU734 / 2666678 / 2217
Geekbench5 OpenCL40.74825.821
Geekbench5 MetalGB5 metal benchmark crashes27.027
Valley fps / score69.8 / 292157.5 / 2406

Can anyone confirm my values?

In case your values are different: How did you get to Monterey? Erase/install? Install above Big Sur?

Again the performance is more than enough for this machine and for Monterey on this machine, but since I would like to conclude my upgrade voyage with a comparison in a post, I decided to double check my findings.

Send the system to sleep and compare pre-sleep with post-sleep results.
Check the tables linked on the first post of the GPU thread to compare results yourself.
Add your high scores to the same tables.

Valley drop seems reasonable, metal not.

Hint: Connect an external display and redo all benchmarks!

So I try it again:

1) I thought a reinstall of a previous version of OLC would overwrite the newer version,
because the newer version did overwrite the ALC-kext of the previous version => therefore no audio
2) So 1) was obviously false and I did reinstall Monterey, what should install the proper kext, but it didnt.
Still no audio ...

I understand that one have to install this kext (which I downloaded) manually.
Is there someone who can help with the terminal comments ?
Thanks !

Thanks for the hints. I had already compared the Valley results, but had a discrepancy, which I could not explain. Sending the system to sleep magically let the values rise. Apparently taking a short nap has the same effect to this iMac as it does to me ;0)

High SierraMonterey 12.6.212.6.2 after sleep12.6.2 after sleep+2.disp
Geekbench5 CPU734 / 2.666678 / 2.217714 / 2.603742 / 2.753
Geekbench5 OpenCL40.74825.82140.84740.713
Geekbench5 MetalGB5 metal benchmark crashes27.02742.59444.589
Valley fps / score69,8 / 2.92157,5 / 2.40663,1 / 263860 / 2512

The values are now in line, with what I expected.

This saves me from doing the experiment to do a Big Sur erase/install and Monterey install to find out, if the video has a point or not.

Obviously I will upload all values in the iMac 2011 GPU Upgrade thread. I will also prepare a comprehensive post in the same thread documenting the performance of the whole upgrade (hardware + software) in comparison with other systems I can get a hold on. I feel more comfortable now to write this post with these values.

After solving the benchmark issue I would like to troubleshoot hopefully the last thing I encountered upon my path of upgrading this 2011 iMac. Yesterday, when writing my post about the strange benchmarking values, the UI froze and displayed a strange yellow pattern. I could still move the mouse, music continued playing, but the UI had become non responsive. I had to press the power button to force a restart.

IMG_1085.JPG

After that the computer worked. After some time, when rerunning the benchmarks, the same thing happened, but with a blue pattern.

IMG_1087_cut.jpg

After a force restart everything worked without issues for several hours until I shut the computer down.

This morning, when turning the computer on, for 5-6 times I had the same experience: the blue pattern appeared and the UI froze almost immediately after login into the system.

What does this depend on (GPU, Monterey, OCLP, an app misbehaving?) and how could I solve this?

It is currently only Monterey 12.6.2 + the Safari 16.1 update. I had Safari, Geekbench 5 as well and Plexamp open when the crashes happened.

I'm installing Monterey on an NVMe ssd on my 2012 5,1 Mac Pro. It's currently looping through the installer. I think I saw a fix for this a while ago, but can't find it in the thread. I think I'll just move the installer to an m.2 external SSD enclosure and finish with my 2015 MacBook Pro?
