macOS 13 Ventura on Unsupported Macs Thread

I am currently booting Big Sur 11.7.7, Monterey 12.6.6, Ventura 13.2.1 and Ventura 13.4 on my MBP6,2 using the OC EFI generated by OCLP-AMFIPass-Beta4 (AMFI Enabled, Library Validation Enabled, AMFIPass.kext 1.3.1). I upgraded the OC EFI to Open Core 0.9.3 and also upgraded kexts to the latest (including the BrcmPatchRAM kexts to 2.6.8 [nightly build]). I am finding Ventura to be just as responsive as Big Sur. I keep multiple versions of macOS installed for a few things that work better in earlier macOS versions and am finding less and less of a need to avoid Ventura 13.4. OCLP Devs continue to perform miracles.

Note that my MBP6,2 has NVidia Tesla non-metal graphics. Based on the posts here, it is clear that individual experiences with OCLP vary depending on the Mac model / graphics.

Thanks for pointing me to this workaround, that did the trick also on my MBP4,1.

I just discovered that tapping C to clear the display in Basic Mode also fixes the Calculator display (without needing to toggle modes between Scientific and Basic).

I have a macbookpro 8.2. Video card AMD 6490 256 MB. VenDev 0x10026760. OpenCore installs the driver. After the reboot, the driver is not enabled, there is no accelerator in any system from Bigsur to Ventura. The system itself works well. BigSur works best of all around. Ventura has a lot of bugs, you can say Ventura is playing around.

Just curious if anyone has Apple TV new TV episodes working on Ventura 13.4 with any machine or version of OCLP?
It is currently probably the only missing part in 13.4 for my basic needs. Other than that very stable on all test Macs.

Working on mid 2014 with AMFIPass beta did have to do a couple of reboots first would open then close then rebooted and would play the episode it’s fine now on 13.5 beta.

I am on latest 13.5b3 and amfipass beta 4 too and can play older episodes but not newer.
The newer episodes close after a few seconds.
If you have the time could you try playing the latest episodes of something recent, like Crowded Room or Platonic please? Thanks regardless

I love the new shiny stuff as well. Ironically, Stage Manager was the feature I was making the most use of. Otherwise, nothing in Ventura is critical for me. Couple that with the reduced compatibility of the Kepler/Haswell GPU which in my case made Find My, Maps and Apple TV virtually useless, together with apps such as Alfred, iMazing and Carbon Copy Cloner all having issues and reduced functionality and the cons outweighed the pros.
Fingers crossed that our machine will get the patches it needs to run Ventura as well as Monterey, but I'm not holding my breath. Saving for an M2 Mini already.

I think the AI-powered Photoshop features are slow since they rely on the Cloud. In fact, if you watch the videos on YouTube, you will notice that the response time is long regardless of the hardware and whether it is a Mac or a PC

Saying that you love to use Stage Manager makes you even more of a hero in my eyes… I consider Stage Manager as something that hurts the brain and leads to insanity

It’s the Lightroom Classic Denoise feature that crawls like a snail. Typically 20 minutes on the 14,2 iMac. I’ve seen You Tube videos where it runs in less than a minute on the latest macs.

I am on latest 13.5b3 and amfipass beta 4 too and can play older episodes but not newer.
The newer episodes close after a few seconds.
If you have the time could you try playing the latest episodes of something recent, like Crowded Room or Platonic please? Thanks regardless

I have the same issue on my iMac 14,2. From what I've read here and on the Discord server, I believe it is a DRM issue with the Haswell/Kepler machines and is unlikely to be fixed.

Just learnt a great tip from @TOM1211 (Thank you!) that might be worth trying for some:
On my main rMBP 2012, setting a VPN to a US location fixes this 100% so far. Can play all episodes that would
not play before.
So it would seem like OCLP perhaps gets in the way of something-something-location that Apple TV uses?
Might be worth a shot if you use a good VPN?
Edit: This fix also helps with a similar issue in Apple Music.

Reading the error log for Apple TV it is reporting region (as set by OCLP is the way I read it) unknown I believe a VPN can correct the issue until devs of OCLP can confirm.

1. It stalled twice and I restarted the system.
2. The 2nd time it stalled I booted in Option and used the EFI to open the system with the original SSD attached.
3. It loaded up and stopped at the status bar about half across, but this time I saw the Ventura screen!
4. I restarted after I removed the original SSD. Hung up again.
5. Rebooted, asked for the password.
6. Loaded up and a message opened to say that the system was not opened correctly.
7. Selected the "ignore" button and then shut down the system and restarted.
8. NVRAM cleared.
9. Rebooted and this time it uploaded after the password without a problem.
I don't know exactly what worked but see below. I didn't spoof the system.

I'm conducting some tests to determine the origin of the problem with audio capture. I notice that if I connect a microphone (Apple headphones) to the microphone input of the Mac Mini, the problem is resolved, and the sound is completely smooth. It seems that the issue lies with the USB devices. I hear a constant 'click, click' sound, in addition to sound distortion. Could it be necessary to apply some sort of driver to solve this issue with USB audio devices?"

I was finally able to detect the problem. It looks like that the webcam (that has a label on the box saying that it's compatible with Mac OS)...isn't as compatible as it says.

I have tried another webcam and everything works perfectly, so problem solved. Although it seems very strange to me that the sound has such poor quality on Mac OS and yet on windows (installed on the same Mac) it works perfectly.

Another problem I wanted to share with you. I have noticed that on some computers (Mac Mini 2012, Mac Pro 2013), when I open pages or Calc, if I drag an image inside, pages or calc crashes.

However, on a 2016 Macbook pro 15" (which also uses OCLP) pages does not hang and works normally.

I was investigating and I have read somewhere that it is because of the AMFI. To solve it I have tried to use the OCLP beta which keeps the AMFI turned on. I'm talking about this.

However for some reason the error remains there. To investigate, I have seen if there is any difference between the amfi of one computer (macbook pro 2016) and the other (mac mini 2012), so I typed this command in the console to see what I get on each computer

sudo nvram boot-args

But my surprise has been that... Both teams show the same result.

So I also looked at activating SIP on both with this other command

csrutil status

and again in both I have the same result.

Any idea why I may be having these crashes in Pages?

After using the system all day yesterday, it seems that from time to time it hangs up on start up. I would say 50%. I have to hold down the power button for 5 seconds to get it to turn off. When I restart, it it says system was turned off …. It does restart on 2nd attempt.

I did not install the system on the external. It’s in the OWC 1Gb internal.
