^^^ No, no problems with the menu bar, here. (As for Acronis, as it worked normally in Big Sur and also works in Monterey on a non-root patched MBP11,1, I wondered if the window glitches in Monterey and Ventura on the MBP11,3 had something to do with the root patching or the partly broken OpenCL; of course, I cannot really expect to get support from the vendor, on an unsupported configuration. Well, I’ll just have to wait and see what happens: anyway, it’s not an essential program (got it once “discount-bundled“ with Parallels)…)

Nevermind this was to do with the Sleep Wake Failure log diagnostic reports once deleted it’s fine menu bar is back.

1. AVX2 and Ventura:

You may check this link about the current situation.

For all of who have installed Ventura on any supported/unsupported devices you may use this method to check for AVX2 instructions hidden in any executables or libs. Unfortunately is is not that easy to access binaries from the kernel extensions any longer since they are not stored on disk but hidden in a big cache.

The AMDRadeonX4000GLDriver.bundle now has AVX2 code included. It was used on Monterey for all AMD GCN 1-4 AMD dGPU for acceleration.

Same applies to the AMD libs used in the OpenCL.frameworks, which explains why OpenCL is broken on pre (late 2013) Macs.

2. Booting macOS 13 on unsupported pre Haswell devices

You may ask the guys posting their success here about crashes of numerous components starting with the setup screen, login screen, window server. The spoiler on the first post has the title "List of officially unsupported machines that have shown Ventura booting ability to some degree".

I know, the human cerebrum gets tricked and fooled easily starting to ignore facts when the brainstem comes up with hopes and wishes. But this is not about believing, it is about stating simple undeniable facts.

3. Some experiences using the same Ventura installation on different iMacs:

The older the CPU gets the more crashes I got using the same SSD with beta 1 to boot from and the same dGPU (supported, but not accelerated metal Polaris dGPU due to lacking AVX2 support) in different iMacs from 2009 to 2011:

• iMac12,2 Mid 2011 Sandy Bridge CPU (WindowServer crashing, apps like Maps not working, etc. ),
• iMac11,3 Mid 2010 Lynnfield CPU (more crashes, setup, login, window server, had to run setup on 2011 at the very end)
• iMac10,1 Late 2009 Wolfdale CPU (many more crashes, sometimes booting not possible, meta stable situation).

You may extrapolate from this to other older pre 2010 systems.

Photos only crashes with Broadwell devices like my MBA 7,2. On my Haswell iMac14,1 photos works fine.
New: With b8 and new 0.50 alpha Photos doesˋt crash with Broadwell.

Download GeekBench5 and run the OpenCL benchmark, this is the more interesting test case than simply calling the PhotoShop GPU detection. The latter does not even prove OpenCL may work at all.

Thanks, now we know the OpenCL fixes for the iGPU are fine while they are still broken on Kepler….

iMac17,1 27" 5K to be added to the unsupported Macs that have booted Ventura with OCLP 0.5.0 alpha.
Few things don't work well (Photos, screensaver panel...) apart from the inconvenience of having to install KDK to be able to root patch (due to AMD GPU).

c064269 fixes it for Intel Broadwell and Skylake iGPUs. AMD and Nvidia are not included. Do you have dGPU in the MacBook Pro?
Photos also crash on my system (iMac17,1, Skylake + AMD R9).

I did a clean install on my MBA 7,2 Broadwell with beta7 and latest compiled 0,50. Photos.app doest crash no more. But software update doesn't find beta 8. On my iMac 14,1 Haswell beta 8 was found at once with beta 7. Everything is fine -photos never crashes with all betas.

Probably one more OS update, but security patches should come for at least 2 years after its dropped from the newest version.

I have a feeling this transition is going to be more abrupt then PowerPC -> Intel.
