Agree, option to disable it should be available in settings...For example Settings --> Keyboard --> Text Replacement
^^ This! That's all I'm asking for. It could even be an accessibility tool. I could fathom a user with any number of physiological or neurological conditions where having this indicator can be a one-up.

There are multiple little things I've noticed in iOS 17, WatchOS 10, TVOS 17, and Sonoma where a toggle would make UI change into a customization option for the end user. Instead these are touted as feature improvements that improve nothing, or replace a better implementation from the previous OS.

New issue:

The 'Drift' screensaver is broken.

It ignores all selected color options and defaults to red hues only. Not only that, but once activated, there is barely anything on the screen at all, it's mostly blank space with just a few 'Drift' bits here and there, unlike before the Sonoma upgrade.

Is no one else having this issue with the Drift screensaver? I can't imagine how this upgrade could've killed it. And it's bit ironic since wallpapers and screensavers are on the list of big features in Sonoma. :/

I haven’t tried that one yet. I will say that anytime I restart or shutdown my 2019 Intel MacBook Pro or restart it always says that my computer was shut down because of a problem. There’s no indication of an issue at shutdown. It happens every time without fail.

#45

Is there any Apple guy working on this? I'm willing to provide additional debug info / system log if needed.

I'm reporting this fatal error, the screen keeps off when opening the lid. Most likely caused by WindowServer crashes.

Have you tried deleting the windowserver preference files located in:

/Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.displays.plist and
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver.displays.*.plist

followed by a reboot?

Will try after this reply, for now I've found a workaround, if I enabling KeepingYouAwake all the time, this bad issue will not appear :)

Here's a thing.

Sent an email from my iMac (Ventura), now on my MBP (Sonoma) the email is in the sent box but only the attachments included in the email are visible, the text itself is missing...

Seems to be fine for me.

Accessibility / Zoom / Size still resets after every reboot. Zoom window becomes a super tiny square.

  • BIG FAT UGLY CURSOR I Has Apple given up on creators forever with this new OS's cursor? The cursor appears like a space selection now instead of just a cursor, so virtually useless to place precisely in small text quickly and within punctation especially
  • Why? Why? Why? Has Apple hidden the Safari Java Script switch in prefs, instead of the developer menu?
  • Well done Apple for finally bringing back the 'find' file/folder function to the OS.. missing since OS 11 I think?
  • IF I CLICK ON THE DESKTOP I WANT THE FINDER/DESKTOP I DON'T WANT A FRAME OF OTHER APPS WINDOWS SURROUNDING THAT DESKTOP!

It's specific to your computer. Drift shows full spectrum colors on both Apple Silicon and Intel-based Macs for me.

I have 5 Macs and I've only upgraded two so far - an M2 MacBook Air, and an M2 Mac mini and the upgrade to both Macs killed the Drift screensaver.

I had a theory, after the first upgrade, that having the screensaver set to Drift prior to the upgrade might've been the culprit on the first Mac, so I set it as the default screensaver prior to the upgrade on the second Mac to get a better sample, and the same thing happened. Drift, the selected screensaver in both cases, is now broken on two different Macs after the Sonoma upgrade.

When I upgrade my 3rd Mac, I will set the screensaver to one that I never use to see what the outcome is. If the Drift screensaver survives this Mac's upgrade, this may prove my 'selected prior to upgrade' theory.

I know, it's just a screensaver, but it's my favorite, it takes very little system resources and uses your desktop's color palette to draw on the screen. I really don't want to have to do clean installs and fresh setups from scratch to get such a basic thing back up and running.

Activity Monitor is not displaying any incoming WiFI network traffic for me. Works correctly over ethernet.

Hey everyone, downloaded SONOMA and having tons of delays and issues with my keyboard and mouse ever since I downloaded it. Anyone else having that issue or have any fixes for me? Any help appreciated.

Sonoma fixes a bug that was introduced with Big Sur: dropdown menus are now aligned correctly.
If you're talking about the menu bar aligning itself relative to the text instead of the checkmarks, that was not a bug and it's consistent behavior if you think about what it's doing:

It still does this in Sonoma, the menu text is what the menu bar aligns against. Prior to Big Sur, it was the checkmark instead, which meant you didn't always get consistent menu behavior. However, counterintuitively, it now looks wrong, even though it makes more sense.

Unless you are referring to something else entirely.

Oh, no. I meant these ones:

Previously the menu would be shifted down and to the right.

Does anyone else's "delete" key not work anymore? I am using a Logitech MX Keys for Mac running the most recent firmware update, but the issue seems to be in software. I can delete text, for example, I can't delete photos in the Photos app and hitting "delete" anymore, nor can I delete tracks in Logic Pro. In both cases I have to right click and then click "delete."

I'm at my wits end (BUG) - cannot change FIND MY person widget.
I can't select it when I INITIALLY place it on my desktop - one choice, that's all.
I can't even CLICK to change to another person 90% of the time - very rarely it works.
Then when I do get the list of four people to change, it NEVER sets another person - it always reverts to the original.

I've been noticing on my M1 MBP that my screen was just going black instead of the Screensaver coming on, and it seemed to be happening quicker than the Screensaver would even come on to begin with..
I noticed this after macOS 14 build 23A344 (2nd RC?) was released, and found this in Settings--

And no matter how many times I go back to adjust these settings, it keeps reverting to this--

I don't use Focus Mode on any of my iDevices or Macs, and I don't have any Automations or Shortcuts that would change power settings or display settings.. I've even reinstalled macOS over itself and am still having the same issue. I'm totally at a loss. I've gone thru my entire list of installed apps to see if any of them could somehow inadvertently be causing an issue. No dice. I'm tempted to try macOS 14.1 beta 1, but I'm hoping to not have to deal with any other issues running a beta build might bring.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ive noticed a bug where if I play a video on YT over night to help me sleep and put the display on my mbp to sleep, then wake it up hours later, safari becomes unresponsive for a few minutes while the spinning beach ball appears. Twice now its happened.

Maybe I missed it, but nobody seems to be noticing a really obvious bug with desktop widgets.

When you transition between desktop spaces with apps open, the widgets won't become transparent until (a) the widget state updates on its own or (b) you click into the desktop to refresh the state of all them. Otherwise they just stay Monochrome (not transparent).

I can see why Apple might have done this. And maybe not many people use spaces. But It's very distracting for me.

I've noticed and reported it. However, I changed mine to monochrome to prevent it from jacking up. You can change it in System Settings -> Desktop & Dock -> Widgets.
