Hello everyone, I think I'd like to give this OCLP and Sonoma a try. But, I have a few questions before I get started.

For starters, here is my mac info
Mid 2015 15" 2.5ghz, m370x gpu, 16gb ram, 2TB sk hynix p31 gold.
Currently on the latest version of Monterey, natively available.

1. Is it better to upgrade/update from Monterey to Sonoma. Or wipe my ssd and do a clean install.
(Personally I'd rather do a clean install, and not worry about any carry over issues)

2. Future security updates/patches can just be downloaded and installed normally from apple, without having to re-patch each time, unless it's a major OS update?

3. I've seen some people talking about DRM issues from Apple TV. Will all of my movies, tv shows and possibly music, be unusable or unplayable if I use OCLP, or are those isolated issues specific to those few people?

Thanks in advance.

With OCLP 1.4.2, unlocking with the Apple Watch finally works again. 👍🏻
Thank God, I was really annoyed🤬 by always having to enter the long password.

Thanks to the OCLP devs!🙏🏻
Did not have the same luck as you, on 1.4.1 my watch did not even show in login screen.
Now on OC 1.4.2 when I try to login it briefly reads "unlocking with Apple watch" with 1 second spin and then stops and asks for password 😕

They're on the same wifi, rebooted both iMac (18,3) and watch, and it appears as ticked in preferences.

Any hints ?

DRM content is not fully supported.
Maybe the modified graphics drivers can't have the right signature to allow playing DRM protected videos in full resolution ? Maybe it's another reason ? I am not skilled enough to answer.
You won't have any problems with music, but for video content, you will have low res videos (AppleTV+ or in browser).
Some content is not playing in Safari

I assume this also applies to itunes media? What if I have an entire season of a show downloaded to an external drive already in 1080p through itunes. I still won't be able to play it or at the very least not in full resolution? Can I assume the same would also apply if I re-downloaded the show directly to the hard drive on the macbook itself..

After OCLP 1.4.1 came out I did a clean install of Sonoma to an external drive to compare it's performance to Monterey on this iMac 17,1. I didn't do a lot of detailed tests but I tested the Peanuts classic I had been watching on Apple TV+ and the quality and playback looked identical to me on both Monterey and Sonoma. On a side note after doing some research online it seems like Sonoma as a whole regardless of OCLP or not seems to cause a few issues with some third party apps such as Audacity. Will see where things are after Monterey support is finished to see if some of these little compatbility issues are resolved. Ventura as some similar issues. So, I don't think it's macOS specifically here but rather the apps / plugins. Even on supported machines people who work with audio / video production are always cautioned to wait before upgrading. So I think that's the aproach i'm going to have to stick with here as well.

For a day to day use, Sonoma did run well for me on here.

You iMac already have AVX2 support, so, you won't have issues with DRM that a lot of users here with older Macs have.

Hi @htcmda ! As you can see from my signature, my Mac is older than yours and everything works great on mine. I don't know if you might have DRM problems with your hardware configuration, video card in particular. In my case and also for many others we had DRM issues for a period of time but, then, the OCLP Developers solved the problem by working with the AMFI function.
Regarding your doubts about the need to reapply OCLP and its Post Install Patch after every major upgrade of macOS and OCLP, the answer is yes. As well as the answer is yes if you can install Sonoma directly from a previous macOS or even from Catalina. Remember, however, that first you must have installed and activated OCLP EFIBoot latest version (1.4.2 or 1.5.0 Nightly)
But don't worry... Learn more by reading this Forum and above all go and read and reread both the first page of this Thread and the original instructions on the OCLP website.
In the end you will realize that everything is much simpler than it may seem when you read it.
And in any case you can always make a test by installing Sonoma in a specially created Volume

Kinda wish I could update to 14.4 on my 7,1 MacBook pro, not really for any main reason except to keep hope alive that we will be able to continue patching and running the latest on our perfectly good hardware for another version or 2. unfortunately that appears to not be the case at the moment.

The macOS user guide states that this is an Apple Silicon feature. iMac 2012 running Catalina natively without OCLP does not appear to have this feature, so it's probably not related to the patcher.
Thanks, just wondering why then MBP ask by attaching my iPhone for cable sync?!?

AXV2 support is not a warranty to have DRM support
My iMac is axv2, if I watch the same video trailer in Apple TV app, it’s in full HD on Monterey and in low res on Sonoma
Super easy to see

i need some help guys

so i had this issue on monterey, ventura, and sonoma. it then went away but is now back

when filevault is on if i put the mac to sleep for a while (say overnight) it has to redo the filevault process when i turn it back on and enter in my password. it also wont work until i press the power button, none of these issues occur without filevault. can anyone help?

2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

Yes, also depends on the GPU drivers still being supported with Sonoma. If the GPU is still supported like 2017 iMacs with RX 570/580, DRM and VideoToolBox acceleration works.

I'm on 14.4 (23E214) and 5,1 and the Calc app is still not working here.....
Is the Calculator not working limited to specific models? I haven't heard too many reports of that particular app not working. As an alternative, look up Calculator Smart in the App tore, I think it's a nice alternative to Apple's built in app. Maybe you can use that instead. Also it's a universal app so it works on the iPhone, Mac, and Apple TV, maybe the iPad as well. Here is a link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/calculator-smart/id698030968

The Calc app says "Not A Number" for at least 3 times and then it works fine lol

OK. The app I linked can be used free, the in app purchases just unlock a few customization features.
Also I tried the app "Calculator Smart.app" and it only gives an answer if I use the ENTER on the Keyboard NOT the ENTER on the Num Pad LOLOLOLOLOL
Ridiculous!!!!
P.S. i'm using a Mac Keyboard
