Need some help…everything was well on 1.5.0 and Sonoma and I updated to 2.0.2 in anticipation of Sequoia….but I have not updated yet. However, on 2.0.2 I can not get my MacBook Pro 11,4 to sleep and the screen stays on all the time. I’ve changed every setting , rebooted and nothing. Any ideas?

Have you reset PRAM a few times in succession? People say that can help. Also try setting OCLP to your specific machine in the dropdown menu? In earlier versions of Sonoma I ran into sleep issues, and the MBA will freeze periodically if I don't restart every couple of days. For the most part, though, OCLP runs well.

Thanks--did what you said and didn't change anything. So I updated to 14.7 from 14.6.1 and now it sleeps, wakes, etc as it's supposed to .... it's also a bit more "smooth".

I had a morning black screen after shutting the MBA lid last night. I ran the kernel panic log through Gemini, asking for an analysis in simple English. Here's the answer I got, should it be useful to others:

This crash report indicates your MacBook Air had trouble going to sleep. Here's a breakdown:

  • The problem: The computer's graphics system (identified by com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily) got stuck while trying to enter sleep mode.
  • The reason: It took longer than 3 minutes (180 seconds) for the graphics system to finish preparing for sleep. Normally, this shouldn't take that long.
  • The result: The Mac crashed because it couldn't complete the sleep process.
This crash report doesn't tell us why the graphics system was slow. It could be a temporary glitch or a problem with software or hardware related to graphics.

Here are some next steps:

  • Restart your Mac: This might be enough to clear any temporary issue.
  • Update your macOS: Make sure you have the latest macOS version installed, as updates often contain bug fixes.
  • Reset SMC and NVRAM: These settings can sometimes get corrupted and cause issues. You can find instructions on how to do this online.
  • If the problem persists: Contact Apple Support for further assistance. They can help diagnose the problem and suggest solutions.

I'm trying to update a used 15" MacBook Pro Early 2011 machine to a newer version of macOS using OCLP but most of the info I've found is older and I'm not sure if it's the most up-to-date.

Basically, I'm looking for whatever will be the smoothest experience with as new a version of macOS as I can find. I did successfully install macOS Sonoma with the latest OCLP, but graphics are definitely laggy, and sound doesn't work at all, so I'm trying to install older versions. I had no success creating an installer for macOS Catalina using either OCLP or DosDude's Catalina Patcher (both installers failed with errors about the install drive despite formatting it multiple times).

I also know the AMD graphics cards aren't fully supported but I wasn't sure if that was ever fixed (DosDude's older site says no, OCLP 0.4.2. had an option to include a fix for AMD graphics, but again, couldn't create the installer).

Open to suggestions!

You could try creating an installer for your m/c on a second machine perhaps. It's an option if you use OCLP (later versions) to override the target m/c when creating the installer.

Also, USB drives do go bad, so try again with a new USB key perhaps, 32 GB minimum.

Drive (64 GB) is not bad. It worked fine when creating installers for other OSes--just not Catalina. I have been using a second machine to make the installers.

You've got nothing to lose trying with a fresh drive; errors like this are sometimes fixed that way. If it doesn't work you'll have eliminated that as being the possible root cause.

Guys, premising that I am very knowledgeable about OCLP since its inception, so far I have always worked with my iMac and NOW, instead, I should install OCLP and Sonoma in my son-in-law's Mac [MacBook Pro 13,2 (13 inch 2016)] and I would not like to inconvenience him, also because he needs the Mac for work and he is not able to deal with any problems. Obviously I will now go and read everything in the Forum and the OCLP Guide.... But in the meantime is there anyone who can reassure me 100% about this MBP?
Thank you very much for your attention and responses.

-----------------------
P.S.
- I am not asking an absurd thing as if there was a similar question in the Forum, regarding my iMac 14,2 and Sonoma with OCLP, I would have no doubt in answering that everything is working smoothly and as if it were a fully supported Mac....

- Of course, I would be happier installing Sequoia. Except that Sequoia, in my iMac, performs poorly with Preview and with AirPlay, and I almost regretted abandoning Sonoma, which was now perfect....

Hi, cMP 5,1 Radeon RX580. OCLP 1.5.0n. I recently changed the graphic card and when I try to update Post Install Root Patches to enable graphic acceleration it says me this:

I have tried to return the previous AMD Graphic Card wich is a TeraScale 1 but if I revert the root patches and then install the RX 580 it never gave me signal after select disk. If I install root patcher for the other graphic card and then I try to install patches for RX 580 it says me this previos message.
Is there something I can do for avoid reinstall the whole Sonoma again and delete the hard drive?
Hello, did you find a solution? I have the same problem. Thank you!

Is there anyone who can reassure 100% about anything? Not trying to be a wisea$$, but that's a bit of an ask. As one "very knowledgeable about OCLP," you know ways to test macOS/OCLP without affecting the Mac's "production" volume.
I know the ways of test and using OCLP, friend @deeveedee , but you don't know my son-in-law 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
If he notices that it is not done in a more than certain way and without having to fiddle with the computer he always uses, he will have a meltdown 😂 or alternatively divorce my daughter 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Obviously kidding!!! (but not too much...)
So I addressed my question in the Forum... or I wouldn't have needed to, as I did with friends I drove even by phone 😊
But in the meantime, a sincere thank you from the bottom of my heart for your answer. 😍

Are you using OCLP 2.0.2 in the latest version of Sonoma? Is it ok?
I used it and it did not give me any problems. Generally the OCLP stable versions (and 2.0.2 is) work perfectly well with older Operating Systems. Unless exceptions are declared known and reported in the CHANGELOG.md file.

Having said that, I would like to add that I almost regretted upgrading to Sequoia which, all things considered, does not offer much more or important for our unsupported Macs and in my case Preview.app has a flaw that is very serious to me. Everything else would seem to work fine except AirPlay with videos from YouTube on the iPhone.
But you decide what to do.
Were it simple (but because of retrograde incompatibilities of Photos.app and Mail.app it is not)..., I would almost downgrade to Sonoma or perhaps Ventura and stay there permanently since as of yesterday, is the right time to upgrade to a new Mac M4
Bye

I will test Sonoma on the external unit. Because at the moment Ventura is still receiving support on the MacBook Pro 2017. Watch some videos, and need to install over Ventura to keep the Touch Bar and Touch ID working, and the only pending driver in OCLP is from Wireless because the rest inherits from Ventura, which is an almost stock system with the release of AirPlay.

Yeah, I am kind of feeling the same way. FOMO got me but without the ability to run the tentpole features of Sequoia it might not be worth it. Same with iOS 18 support on my "ancient" 12PM; none of the cool 18.1+ features run on older models so why?

Anyone else try to play Apple Purchased movies on an OCLPd machine with an External monitor attached and have it work?... I've still not seen any resolution to that issue..I'm guessing it will never be...

Hello; I'm using the 2.10 (n) October 16 version of OCLP with Sonoma 14.7 on my late 2013 MBP 11.3 with the Nvidia 750 M GPU. I run 2 external monitors. Periodically (once a day or so) all three "black out" for several seconds and then "come back." I presume this has something to do with the driver-patched software crashing and restarting. Anybody have thoughts on this?

macOS 14.7.1 installed atop 14.7 OTA, OCLP 2.1r, runs as expected.

Just moved from Monterey to Sonoma 14.7.1 my three MBP (2011, 2012 and 2015) using OCLP 2.1.0 (2015 with 2.0.2). Everything fine & smooth ... so far! MBP 2011 and 2015 upgraded with scratch install procedure. The 2012 upgraded via USB Key keeping disk data. A great thanks to OCLP developers!

I installed the latest version of Sonoma on the external drive to test on the MacBook Pro 2017. Incredible looks like an official system, inherits all the drivers without having to run the post-install, and enables the AirPlay feature. Apple cut 2017 and only left support from 2018 to force the change of equipment, Mac had full support

*Edit

AirPlay only sends up to 1080p. While directly on the Mac you can watch in 2160p

Hi!! I have a 2013 11” MacBook Air that I use as a spare machine. After updating to OCLP version 2.1.1, everything completely broke. No GPU acceleration, no WiFi, nothing. What’s even more concerning is that the root patches refuse to apply at all. Since I have no internet on the computer, I literally don’t know how to solve this. I’m completely lost. Any help is appreciated! I’ve attached a photo of the error I get when applying the root patches.

EDIT: The machine is running Sonoma 14.6.1.
