I have been using it today testing things on a partition. But aside from the new messages & photos features, and the updated apps - did anything change? lol
I remember Sonoma had a huge list of small changes. Things like adding faster encoding etc. But there seems to be very very little with this release - just AI hooks.
This was my same impression. Seems to me they've polished Sonoma a little bit, but the "true OS upgrade" is Apple Intelligence … which isn't even here yet.
I suspect they're a bit behind in releasing AI and/or catching up to expectations that they should have such a thing already. (They say they do things on their own time, and they usually do, but AI is a huge "expectation" they have to live up to. And I do love their approach to Personal Intelligence, so it's worth the wait. But, they feel "behind.")
One hour of the keynote was OS updates, but the OSes are barely updated. Sequoia is truly about AI, and the WWDC was truly about AI. It just isn't ready yet, which is minorly frustrating. Now the OSes will sort of go through a whole second beta/development cycle once AI debuts, which seems very peculiar. Too bad they couldn't just let us have Sonoma for two years, like 10.4 Tiger, and then release Sequoia when it's DONE.
The new calendar UI refinements are nice though. 😆
EDIT: This video is actually a good semi-rebuttal to my own analysis.
Apple just changed everything. Again. – ftp
I forgot about the interview where the two execs "knew something we didn't." Clearly, AI has been in the works for ages.
The only thing they're really behind on, IMO, is their own WWDC schedule. All of AI should've been available now in the OS betas to prevent a "second beta life cycle."
