I think it would have been good if these were providing a feedback on mouse hover on what the arrangement would look like.

They look unchanged to me. I use drop down folders for my bookmarks in the favorites section....this works well for me YMMV. I don't see a ton different so far in beta 1 for Safari....yet
Thanks for confirming. Damn, really disappointing to hear. When they were talking about Safari I was desperately hoping they were about to unveil an epic new approach to bookmarks. Such a bizarre thing to do badly in a web browser.

That new screensaver looks super cool!

What do you not like about Safari bookmarks? I've never had issues with bookmarks since I started using Safari (20 years ago).
I'm... genuinely amazed. Bookmarks are borderline broken in Safari imo.

  • No star button. Not a big deal, but seems crazy.
  • Can't drag bookmarks around in the bookmarks bar
  • Can't right-click on bookmarks in the bookmarks bar to edit or delete
  • The bookmarks button shows/hides the bookmarks bar rather than the bookmarks side panel
Even if Apple provided a better bookmarks experience, I'm not sure I could switch though. Extension availability is a major problem due to how few APIs are available to devs and how challenging it is to publish extensions. And the lack of uBlock Origin really, really sucks. AdGuard is not nearly as nice, but fortunately I did buy the LTD back in the day.

That's concerning as in MacOS Sonoma many of the features of Keychain Access still weren't found elsewhere. In Keychain Access you can add a custom TLS certificate authority. I hope the new Passwords app has this.
I typed "keychain" into Search and it found the app. Running it gave the following prompt, after which the app opened just fine.

Edit: Seems I'm late to the party as this has already been answered.

Other than the star button, you can do all of those things in Safari. If you long click the + button next to the url bar, it lets you bookmark something too. I use the bar, because it takes up the least amount of room. Command+Shift+B hides/shows the bookmarks bar if you want quick access to that.

Actually, my bad. KA is still there, it's just hidden now in /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications. When opening the application, it gives you a choice between opening legacy KA or the new Passwords application.
On Sonoma I already get that choice when opening KeyChain access, where it offers me to open up the Passwords in Settings, so that is not new.

It is however in the /Applications/Utilities folder still, in Sonoma, so the move to the new location is new..

Have they added a setting to limit the battery to 80%?
Sorry to bump, just curious if anyone could check out whether this is available now that people have the beta in their hands.

I don’t mean optimized battery charging, I mean a simple limit like in iOS and iPadOS.

Don't think I can copy the Macintosh Classic desktop/screensaver to Sonoma. It's an extension rather than a standard animated wallpaper file.

Just a couple of things, in terms of window management I just arrange windows how ever I want instead of the OS placing them in a locked location. see pic below.

Also, when more than one video is being played in Sequoia can they be played in their own window or do they fight each other to be front and centre like apple says?

So we will get this Password App for both MacOS Sequoia and iOS 18. This means my iPhone 15 PM will get it but will that be the case for my vintage iMac 27 late 2015 running Monterey? If I change a password on my iPhone will it be reflected in my old iMac as well? This is assuming I don't upgrade with a new Mac by then.

No. Passwords app is not backwards compatible.

What?? Most of these things you said are untrue.

  • "Can't drag bookmarks around in the bookmarks bar"
    • Yes you can.
  • "Can't right-click on bookmarks in the bookmarks bar to edit or delete"
    • Yes you can, both.
  • "The bookmarks button shows/hides the bookmarks bar rather than the bookmarks side panel"
    • The side panel button opens the bookmarks side panel.
  • "No star button"
    • True, but CMD + D works fine.
And this is on macOS Sonoma.

I'm on Sonoma, the latest stable release. I don't think you're thinking of the bookmarks toolbar. The horizontal toolbar beneath the address bar. If you know how to reorder, edit and delete bookmarks in it, please tell me how.

Yes, I am talking about the horizontal bookmarks bar beneath the url bar too. I can rearrange them by dragging, right-click to rename / delete / edit address / etc.

Well I've searched online and can find no reference to being able to reorder or right-click on bookmark bar items. Apple's own support directs people to the side bar or bookmark manager every time. Right-clicking for me just opens the bookmark, and nothing can be dragged anywhere. And I just asked a friend to check on his Mac and he said it's the same.

You can edit/move/etc bookmarks that aren't in folders on the bar. You can drag anything on the bar to a new location.
