I'm really curious about how long it takes for installing. I also left it overnight and it still says 'About 2 minutes remaining'. But actually it has been more than 12 hours.
Should I try force shutdown and reboot or just wait longer?
-------------after 5 more hours------------------
I manually power off my mbp, and reboot it. And it's OK now.

Is this your first install on an APFS file system? If it is converting to APFS, it could take a long time.

Beta 5 seems to have fixed none of the bugs I had and introduced new ones:
Previous:
  • Mail.app that keeps showing up spontaneously (not fixed in beta 5, has been happening in Mojave and is soooooo annoying) (10+ reporters)

Oh god this is so annoying, this is why I don't use the Mail app anymore. Not only is it annoying, but can also crash apps working full screen, seemingly because it forces split view. Why is this STILL not fixed??

Just upgraded to the latest Public Beta and at least in my case there has been a tremendous improvement , is faster , but still has some slow downs on the Finder and integration with iDrive is not as fast as Mojave. Pages is slow to show up , and slow to open Documents saved in iCloud. I noticed that the option to show "album artwork" is back in Music , but it doesn't work, so I still have blank albums covers , no big deal . Over all the performance is better and the feel of the entire system is smooth . Im sure as the betas keep coming in things will get better and better .

Not knowing how to call it, it‘s difficult for me to search for people with the same problem, so here‘s my question:

Since I updated to Catalina yesterday, I noticed a weird sleep-mode behaviour on my MacBook Pro Retina (early 2015): If it goes to sleep, I can‘t wake it up unless I hard-switch it off and on again.

Anyone having similar probs? Cheers :)

Yep, that's the serious problem in version 19A512f. My solution is to use an app which prevent my rmbp from sleeping. Then things goes well.
[doublepost=1564707333][/doublepost]I just get a new update notification. After installation, I will check it out for you guys about the freezing problem.

Nope, I updated it from mojave 10.14.6. Before I installed the public beta the day before yesterday, there was nearly 25G empty space, which maybe not enough.
Or maybe just because the new macos can't pull itself out after long time updating.

I am downloading the full installer now. Installing fresh might help with the sleep/ wake behaviour. Possibly by the next beta there should be something if it was not in the latest Catalina beta, considering they released a fix for it in 10.14.6.

com.Apple.AutoWake.plist is a new file in this OS, if I am not mistaken. And I fancy this file has something to do with the sleep and wake issues on power. This file has dates for August 3 and 4! It is August 2, afternoon, in my time zone. Unable to attach any files, be it screenshots or the actual file itself, some server error.

For anyone interested, the file is located in (System HD) > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration.

Interesting. Although my file has an added date of 31st July (when I installed this latest beta) the mod and create date is 18th July, as are the dates within the file.

Is anyone having sudden screen freeze?? This is happening since the last PB, why screen is okay and when I leave for a couple minutes, when I come back my screen is frozen but my laptop is hot and the fan is working at full speed and I had to force restart.

Also this was a really weird install for me, after the loading Apple logo screen during upgrade, my screen just went blank but the fans are still running so it means it’s still on, had to force shutdown through the power button, and then I opened it again and it’s okay now and upgraded too.

Did you upgrade or do a fresh install? I just installed fresh and do not have it anymore.

Ah, that must be it. I upgraded.

This is a very common issue with developer beta 4 and 5. It seems to only happen when the charger is connected. In the meantime, I and others have resorted to using the Amphetamine app. There's a configuration option which allows it to force the system to stay awake while it's connected to power. One caveat is that the app cannot prevent the system from sleeping if you close the lid.

Regarding the sleep/ wake issue when on power:

Today I was fortunately sitting in front of the computer when something happened. Computer was idle, no applications open, screen was lit. I heard the fans speed up. I checked the chassis to find it very hot. In a few more seconds the computer just shut off right in front of my eyes.

This leads me to think that there may be some process that kicks in when the computer is idle and on power. Computer overheats, thermals shut it off. I have reported the issue under a different category now, and with some additional logs for Apple to parse, taken from Console.

EDIT Aug 5, 2019

I also believe that it might have something to do with photoanalysisd. Way over 100% usage when on power.

Is anyone experiencing problems when using System Preferences, like selections not being selectable by mouse click, instead needing to be selected then confirmed by Return button, and sometimes not working at all....also I have several times been forced to close System Preferences by using Force Quit.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but GarageBand is completely and entirely non-functional in both PB3 and PB4. Trying to open any project results in the error message "The operation could not be completed. No other information is available about the problem." The problem persists after uninstalling and reinstalling GarageBand, booting into Safe Mode, and updating to PB4. Surprised they haven't fixed this yet.

for future reference, in developer beta 5 in VS Code ctrl-space to autocomplete was not working.

Using ShortCut Detective (free here: http://www.irradiatedsoftware.com/labs/) it reported TextInputSwitcher.app was hijacking it. Since that app is on the new system volume you cannot remove or edit it.

Online I found that older OSX versions had a ctrl-space keyboard shortcut that you could enable and disable (https://sanziro.com/2011/04/how-to-...tween-language-input-methods-in-mac-os-x.html) but in Catalina those options are gone from the Preferences app.

So I just ran

ps -ef | grep TextInputSwitcher
kill -9 <pid of TextInputSwitcher>

and it works again.

It will revert at some time, reboot, or if OSX decides to start it up again, but for now, I'm saved.
