My system is an Unsupported (Early 2009) MacPro patched to 5,1
and upgraded last year with faster processors, more memory, Video card upgrade, etc.
But no room to spare on my current "boot drive" ...
so I've ordered a larger SSD and will clone my system onto that
before doing the upgrade to High Sierra beta - maybe next weekend.

I'll keep reading - and, thanks for all you do here!
Cheers!

Can I probe High Sierra Public Beta with APFS? Some tutorial to formar HFS+ partititon to APFS?

Not yet, at least here there is still no such tool for that yet, but there are several people working on it ;)

So far you can only test high sierra with HFS.

I would like to fresh install HS on a blank hard disk, with or without APFS, just to get a feel for it, on my 2008 Pro. So I have downloaded the two similarly sized tools mentioned earlier, one zip, one tgz. What other files are necessary and could you perhaps provide (or point to) instructions for a non-expert but still curious user?

You have 2 options:

You can use this tutorial http://dosdude1.com/sierrapatch.html

with this patcher http://dosdude1.com/highsierra/macOS High Sierra Patcher.zip

Or this tutorial, that I test but I don´t undertand because I can´t make a flash drive with then type ./create-disk.sh to create the flash drive.

newCore App Beta

Thank you @apriliars3, will try it. However wouldn't any of those two methods require access to a large-ish file that contains whatever version of the HS operating system is currently available?

I just installed High Sierra on my 2.4GHz Late 2008 MacBook (5,1) and had no issues thus far.
I heard some people having issues with the trackpad not being recognised correctly but mine works perfectly fine. I used NewCore 0.1 to install High Sierra and then had to install the LegacyUSBInjector.kext with a patched Sierra restore Disk as USB wasn't working on first boot.

I have installed macOS High Sierra Beta 2 with Sierra patcher dosdude1 and patched in post installation with legacy USB Support injector but the trackpad no being recognized correctly.

And with NewCore 0.1 I don´t understand what is the problem, but I can´t create the flash drive.

@foxlet I finally was able to successfully install high sierra with your 0.1 version of your tool, so it installed and before it booted in to high sierra, as your instructions I boot into normal Sierra and ran your patcher, when I restarted to complete the configuration I had no keyboard mouse or usb, so I went to sierra again and ran the patch again, and this time I got the peripherals working and got thru the configuration part but then I got stuck at the login screen with the spinner and never got further, went to sierra ran the patcher again and then the peripherals stopped working again...

So I formated the hole thing and Im waiting for some more news.

Heh...the Apple "update utility" searches your hard drive for an existing copy first.....found my copy of DP1, then complained as it couldn't verify the identity of the developer. :) Hilarious!!! Hehe

Deleted it and downloading the installer now.

Well, I was able to get Public Beta 1 installed on my MBP 17" 4,1:

Screen Shot 2017-06-29 at 8.13.17 PM.png

It STILL doesn't allow me to have the battery icon on the menu bar (says my battery charge is 0%, even though it was showing 100% with the installer), nor does it recognize the trackpad as such (though two-finger scrolling still works). I'll have to see if other options work, even though it's not reported as a trackpad.

The version of dosdude1's patcher that I used reports as 1.0b1

Edit: Both 3-finger as well as 4-finger features work as they do on Sierra (on my Mac Mini, with it's magic trackpad). So, I'd say all functionality is there, even though not recognized as a trackpad in System Preferences.

Edit2: iMessage sync is f'd up. None of my existing conversations brought over. New messages on other devices don't bring that over to the MBP. The only conversation that exists is one that is initiated on the MBP. That one syncs correctly.

You have to use a supported Mac to download it from the App Store.
As I only have this old MacPro 3.1 I can't download the Public Beta via the App Store, is there anywhere else I can download it from?
I think I DM'd you last year for a link.

Hi guys. Please, help me. I want to install HS using your methods. But I cant understand, which method gives me APFS and, in future, OTA updates using AppStore.

One more question, if I install HS now on pard of my HDD drive, on second part I want Sierra( as recovery, i will delete it after normally installl of HS ), can i do it? And, when i will buy SSD, i need to install Capitan, then Sierra, and after that, High Sierra? Thanks.
