Hmm. I'm having the same issue on my early 2009 MBP 17. I had backlight controls under 10.13 before upgrading to 10.13.1, and repatching. I can adjust brightness of my cinema display, just not the internal. Actually, it seemed to work fine in 10.13.1 for a few days before I realized I hadn't reapplied the patches and rebuilt the cache.

Also, NightShift seems to have disappeared, as well.

Update: Okay, switching to discrete graphics brings back the Built-in Display brightness slider, and brightness keys, but it's non-functional.

Update 2: It's a little fiddly. I went back to the installer and did a post install patch again, thinking maybe it would install a prior version of the patch, which I presume it did, but while the control is still visible, it's non functional. However, NightShift has now reappeared and works. I'm presuming MBP5,2 might need an updated backlight patch? If there's anything I can provide that would help to create that, I'm game.

I have now even reinstalled the patched macOS version, force rebuilt cache, installed your latest backlight patch update but still no luck on the MacBook pro 17" Early 2009

Updating my MacMini3,1 doesn't work.
The OSX on the MacMini3,1 is running on a SSD which might complicate matters, but when I was most of the way through running the installer - following Dosdude1's guide - a message came up that the instal failed due to a hardware problem. The post instal patch also reported 'no High Sierra found'.
Repeated process with same results, including disabling SIP.

Has someone found a work around for MacMini3,1?

Thanks

Hi guys,
I've been experiencing a recurring problem with my MacBook Mid-2009 that has been upgraded to run HS with @dosdude1 patch. It runs smoothly without any problems and I've been enjoying it immensely, until a few months in.
I would then be hit by the “Wi-Fi: No Hardware Installed” problem. This has occurred to me for the second time just now.
In my previous attempt, I tried to apply the fixes described here: http://osxdaily.com/2016/07/11/fix-wi-fi-no-hardware-installed-error-mac/
but that completely messed up my Mac. It couldn't even boot after attempting the fix. So I had to reformat everything and reinstall HS patch from scratch.
Reading up on the installation guide, it seems that I shouldn't have reset the PRAM to avoid re-enabling the SIP.

Could anyone advice on how I can resolve this issue without having to reinstall everything and lose my data on the Mac? Should I try any of the fixes listed in the article or is there another way?
Thank you.
Hi guys,
Could anyone advice me on how I should proceed with fixing my MacBook's "missing wifi hardware"?
Should I reset the PRAM or the SMC and then disable the SIP through the Terminal after booting through the set up HS Patcher thumbdrive?
Will this affect my data in the mac and safely boot back up?
Do I need to run the post install scripts again after doing this?

I have installed it on two mini 3,1 (one with an SD formatted as APFS) and have no problems at all. Try to recreate the installer with another thumb drive.

Hint: also replace Nvidia kexts with 10.11 ones (to match accelerator change)
No reason to do that unless you're running both AMD and nVidia graphics at the same time. Best to use stock 10.13 kexts if you're only using an nVidia GPU.

Hey @dosdude1,

I downloaded your http://dosdude1.com/highsierra/patchupdates/BacklightPatch.zip manually, and tried to run the install to see what happened. It gave this:

Code:
cp: cannot overwrite directory /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DisplayServices.framework/Resources with non-directory DisplayServices.framework/Resources
cp: cannot overwrite directory /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DisplayServices.framework/Versions/Current with non-directory DisplayServices.framework/Versions/Current

so I change the cp from "cp -R" to "cp -RL" to follow the symbolic links. And that seemed to work, but when I rebuilt the kextcache, I got this:

Code:
kxld[com.apple.driver.AGDCBacklightControl]: The following symbols are unresolved for this kext:
kxld[com.apple.driver.AGDCBacklightControl]: AppleBacklightParameterHandler::interpolatePanelTable(unsigned short const*, unsigned short, unsigned short, unsigned int, unsigned short*, unsigned short)
kxld[com.apple.driver.AGDCBacklightControl]: AppleBacklightParameterHandler::loadScaledMobileBacklightTable(unsigned short, unsigned short**, unsigned short*)
Link failed (error code 5).
Prelink failed for com.apple.driver.AGDCBacklightControl; omitting from prelinked kernel.

I'm not quite sure how @ferox83 managed to get his MBP 5,2 to work under 10.13.1.

EDIT 1:
Oh, hmm. I just noticed in http://dosdude1.com/highsierra/patchupdates/updates.plist that the Macbook Pro 5,2 (my machine) isn't listed as supported for the backlight patch. The Macbook 5,2 is listed, though. Does that mean my machine doesn't need the patch?

EDIT 2:
Alright I fixed it -- it seems the patch shouldn't have been have been installed on MacbookPro 5,2 (Early 2009) -- not sure how it got selected to install, if I made a mistake, or the patcher auto installed it. I restored time machine backups of AppleBacklight.kext, AppleBacklightExpert.kext to /S/L/E and DisplayServices.framework to /S/L/PrivateFrameworks

EDIT 3:
@Luminoscity do you have a time machine backup?

EDIT 4:
Yeah, it was totally my fault. I think I made two mistakes. 1) I had booted to the patched High Sierra Installer, and ran Post Install Patcher, instead of using "/Applications/Utilities/Patch Updater.app"; and 2) accidentally selected Macbook 5,2 instead of my machine.

The final step of my "fix" was to edit "/Library/Application Support/High Sierra Patcher/installedPatches.plist" and remove the listing for the Backlight patch to prevent this from recurring in the future.

EDIT 5:
By the way, thanks @dosdude1 for going to so much effort to help the mac community. It's much appreciated!

Installed High Sierra 10.13.1 on a MacBookPro 5,3 (Mid 2009). Everything works, though I noticed some strange behaviors: when changing the GPU through System Preferences (passing from discrete GPU, which is default, to integrated) sometimes it never wakes up from logging out (so showing a black screen). Also it happened of not waking up from sleep mode (without closed screen).

Someone experienced the same? Is that a known bug or something like that?

Macbook 5,2 here.

Same deal on my end. I actually just ran the post installer again and cleared the kache. Everything goes through the motions and appears to install fine but same deal pretty much.

I don't know if there is a direct correlation but I have working brightness adjustments from both F1 and F2 and settings but the adjustments have no actual affect on the screen brightness. Aside from that closing the lid on my computer will allow it to sleep and when I open the lid I hear the drives kick on, the keyboard lights up, but no dice on the screen no matter how long I wait. The only way out is a reboot.

I think I had accidentally posted this issue on the Sierra thread not realizing which one it was but I've ran through all the typical trouble shooting, SMC, PRAM, modified Kexts... ETC. Any help would be appreciated!

Mac Pro 3.1 user here running High Sierra.

No issues, no complaints, just a happy customer (?) who wants to thank @dosdude1 for releasing his program.

With honourable mention to @LightBulbFun for his help.

Actually my brightness keys works correctly, I just find out these issues while switching GPU and waking up the mac from sleep.

About switching GPU, unfortunately gfxCardStatus doesn't work anymore on High Sierra. I would like to force to Integrated GPU since the Discrete one has some bad hardware issue (well known, it seems, but Apple made a substitution program only for newer 2010/2011 MBPs). For example, this is what I get after a while working with the Discrete GPU (NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 256 MB)...

Any changes expected in 10.13.2 that would break stuff on a clean install? I know its not out yet but it's the release I'm waiting for(arbitrarily) to clean install a few MacBooks I've got sitting around.

Okay, little update: I'm experiencing your same behavior about brightness keys working but not changing brightness after coming back from sleep mode. Seems like this is a bug on High Sierra, isn't it?

I have a MacBookPro5,1. Anyone else seeing this oddity - the radio buttons overlapping the main pane - on the Energy Saver preference pane?

I can't seem to update to macOS 10.13.1 on my Macbook5,1. The update shows up in the App Store and I can download it fine, the Macbook restarts OK to install it, the installation begins (progress bar at about 10%), but then the Macbook reboots again without completing the installation. My version is still 10.3, and 10.13.1 still shows up in the App Store as an update. I can download it again, but the same thing happens.

Any ideas?

Thanks
cinergi

For those of you who have successfully upgraded to 10.13.1, did you do so the usual way via the App Store (patched by dosdude1's installer during the original 10.13.0 installation), or did you manually download the 10.13.1 update from Apple and apply dosdude1's patcher to that?

As noted above, I can't seem to upgrade to 10.13.1; my Macbook5,1 simply reboots without completing the installation, and no error messages. I am therefore stuck on 10.13.

Thanks,
cinergi

After two weeks with HS 10.13.1 on my Mac Pro 3.1 I downgraded back to 10.12.6.

The Red Screen got to annoying, the wakeup problems with my 5870 weren't solved 100% with the never sleep and I got the feeling the Computer wasn't running as good as under Sierra.
And My AppStore showed me 5 Updates but crashed every time I opened it (without showing what the updates are).

10.12.6 was running like a charm (after I set all tiny niggles) but somehow my 3dot1 doesn't seem to like High Sierra.
I will watch this space and will sure give it an other try some time later!

Got High Sierra installed on a MacPro3,1 with samsung ssd, converted to APFS and ran the postinstall patch...
However upon rebooting, the EFI screen displays the error "Boot file not found" and stops.
I am able to manually boot the system by running FS5:\system\library\coreservices\boot.efi, so suspect this is a problem with startup.nsh not detecting the correct boot volume (aside from the boot ssd in slot 1, there are 2 other drives in the machine).. Is there any way to correct this to boot unattended?

This tends to happen sometimes due to the system not creating the necessary preboot partition that the APFS implementation relies on. What you can do is just install the OS onto the volume you converted to APFS, and that should create the proper partitions (no data will be erased). Then, once finished re-installing, you can re-apply the post-install patch.

Okay, little update: I'm experiencing your same behavior about brightness keys working but not changing brightness after coming back from sleep mode. Seems like this is a bug on High Sierra, isn't it?

That’s exactly my issue. I notice when I flip over to dedicated graphics I have no brightness adjustments and with the on board graphics I have controls and they act like they’re responsing but the brightness stays the same.

As far as closing the computer or putting it to sleep its pretty much the same deal no matter what I do, keyboard lights up, HD kicks on, but just a blank screen staring at me.

So I'm a goof ball. I read a few posts back and saw @sejm post about mistakenly running Macbook 5,2 during post install which includes the backlight controller instead of MacbookPro 5,2 which is what I have. Anyway!! I had fiddled with the Kexts enough that I just went ahead and reinstalled HS and ran the post installer minus the Backlight control option and there you have it... She runs like a champ and I can even close the lid and the screen still wakes.

Thanks for all the help and sorry for needless posts!

Am on MBP 4,1 (Early 2008) with macOS 10.13.1 Release (build number: 17B48) running. Updates from the App Store result in a flawed system (often discussed here: Safari, AppStore not working, etc., Onyx workaround very questionable).

Apple has released macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 beta 5 to developers for testing. The build number is 17C83a.
Link to full Installer anyone?
Or how to wrap the downloadble .pkg Packages into a full Installer? @dosdude1?

Why do you want a full installer? Simply enroll to beta installs, and install it via software update. 10.13.1 and 10.13.2 running fine on MBP4,1. The bug with Safari/AppStore/any other app with WebView will be fixed with Onyx. Maybe something went wrong with some permissions.
