Great tread and many thanks to dosdude1! Currently running High Sierra 10.13.1 on a Mac Pro 3.1. I'm not able to update to 10.13.3. I have tried to update via app store, but no updates are visible. Tried to reinstall updates in Patch Updater, but no luck.

Is the only option to download the Combo 10.13.3 installer from the Apple Support Downloads pages?

Got to Applications/ Utilities and launch Patch Updater.app then check to view installed updates now press the control key and click on software update patch now click re-install, now Restart. Check the App Store for Updates.
If not download the Combo updater and follow the instructions above to modify the Distribution file before you can begin installing.

Hi gwoog: I posted this same question yesterday if you go back to post # 3004 and follow the thread from there it should answer your questions.

Thanks for your answer! I already tried to update but no luck.

Downloaded the combo update. Will try to modify it. Would be great if you could provide an already modified combo update for Mac Pro 3.1

It would be nice if Apple would give the option to install with just a warning rather than making us jump through hoops.

If you installed the correct patch for software update, it must be working. Check it again. The SU patcher is not working if you enabled SIP. Check sip first and next download a fresh copy of the patcher amd install only the software update patch.

My Mid 2009 MacBook Pro (5,3) Logic board fried.
The internal APFS formatted SSD, has High Sierra v10.13.1 via dosdude1 High Sierra Patcher Tool.

I have now purchased a late 2009 Mac mini (3,1). Will not be using Wifi. Just 100% ethernet.
Will disable SIP.

My goal is to install the above SSD, into this Mac mini, and boot up.
Will that work?
Are there any issues I should address beforehand?

Thank you

Hello again

Right good we have the same Board ID what we need to do in Text Wrangler is go down to the section for Board IDs
and select one to replace, just one will do. I tend to replace one that has the same amount of characters, I think the one I choose to replace starts with F22 etcetera I just replace the characters after the F with the ones for the MacPro 3.1 Board ID. And then in the nonSupportedModel list MacPro 3.1 is way over to the right nearly at the end of the list just put the cursor behind the last apostrophe of 'MacPro 3.1' and back space to remove it and the apostrophe, be careful to also remove the comma so there is also only one between the two Mac identifiers left with of course the correct spacing.
Once you have done that click on File in the menubar and then Save As from the drop down, save it to the Desktop as Distribution.xml.
Next in Terminal enter the chmod +x command and press space after the x now drag the Distribution.xml into Terminal press return. Remove the .xml extension as described above and move this new modified Distribution into the Expanded folder replacing the original
In Terminal follow the commands to make the modified.pkg
Try again and let me know.

O Happy Joy! it worked
Thank you very much Mr. L Caputo
Note: After I clicked the installer I got the beach ball for a few minutes I was just going to kill it when the installation started at the end of the install it said installation failed but after a reboot I'm now on 10.13.3

Follow CZOs instructions for reinstalling the Patch Updater.

I am not going to post a 2GB update file, when you can do the work to modify it yourself in 5 minutes.
As each Mac has its own identifier and Board ID I would need to post several, better to give you the tools
and then you can use your noggin to work a way for yourself.

Great that you got it working, just wish I knew why it was giving the error towards the end, it never did this in Sierra, but then High Sierra is terribly flaky.

Ok, nobody will stop you, if you wan't figure out, which is required to make it working. Get a supported mac, install HS to an external firewire drive and enable networking and screen sharing and ssh (why firewire? Sierra and High Sierra removes power form the USB port when running on an unknown mac, so you can't boot from usb before you create the required patches for the usb power managemant). MacOS can be set to bootable on unsupported system if you add "no_compat_check" to kernel parameter or if you place your BoardID and ModelID to /S/L/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist. If it boot it, open a beer and go to the next step. You need to figure out the required modification to the LegacyUSBInjector.kext to enable USB. If usb is working, maybe you need to replace the WiFi/Bluetooth module to a newer one, to enable WiFi and/or Bluetooth. Next, install my software update patch from dosdude's patcher tool to enable software updates. It's not too hard.

Get a supported mac
And how much money would that be? I'm only in Highschool, so I don't even have a job yet. I can't use my laptop for anything other than surfing the web because old versions of both Microsoft Office and Apple's iWork are not compatible with today's standards. I am trying to use a laptop my dad has given me to use, and I am trying simply to get the most out of it. So please, don't tell me to get a new laptop, because I simply don't have the money for it. I have the time, though, to test putting a newer OS on it.

I don't know how to get a supported mac. But i know, the current patcher and installer is not working on your mac. I wrote a short tutorial how to make a vanilla high sierra installation working on your old mac. Find a friend with supported mac, find an apple store ask a genius to install high sierra to "this" external drive, because your desktop mac crashed, etc etc.

I would like to recommend the following; use this device with another OS. I would say: try Lubuntu OS. It is easy to install, and in this way you have a device capable of doing a lot of work.

Follow CZOs instructions for reinstalling the Patch Updater.

Let me see if I can find the installer log

Just checking in. Got busy with work. Finally updated my MBP 5,2 (Mid 09 17") to 10.13.3. Everything is working A-OK. (Brightness, sound, input, etc)

My MBP 5,5 updated to 10.13.4 without me knowing and now my top menu bar colors seem off. Mainly for inactive items I can barely see them. Anyone else with this issue?

Lubuntu is okay very basic and vanilla. Xubuntu is a step up. Elementary OS is awesome. Ubuntu Gnome is nifty. They should work with it. I’m downgrading to El Capitan. Each patch brings new problems so I’ll go last supported os. I use my computer for a lot of things related to work so why not a supported os on the hardware where those apps work?

Tried the 10.3.3 upgrade again today.

Steps; Combo updater, reinstall software update patch (don't reboot), onyx, reboot.

Success.

Probably would have been fine with the AMD 5770 but now I am on 10.3.3 and no red.

I'm having some graphical glitches with Preview.app and Quick Look after installing the beta. Everything else is working fine.

**Addendum** ---> possibly faster fix for missing dictionaries : Full Credit to "mallen6," Apple developer forums --> "Hold shift key while opening the dictionary.app in application folder"

If the above doesn't work, try my procedure as described below; I found it to work without a glitch.

I found a fix for "Quick Lookup" not working in 10.13.4 beta; it may work in any version of 10.13.X, or earlier, if the "Lookup" function is problematic, or additional dictionaries are needed.

I used EasyFind.app to search for files with word "quick" and/or "Lookup" in their title.
List of files names with word "quick and/or lookup" (as in quicklook) was listed in QuickFind's search result window.
Highlight all "quicklook and/or lookup" files ending with ".plist" suffix, and delete them. Warning: only delete "quicklook and/or lookup" files which end in ".plist" suffix, which signifies "preferences" file. No restart required.

I then highlighted a word in TextEdit document, (but it works in any document or a website), and control-clicked the highlighted word. I chose "Lookup" from resulting dropdown menu. In few moments a "preference" window opened, listing available dictionaries, and begun a download. Once download of dictionaries completed I had a fully functional Lookup.
Adjust priority for dictionaries to be used in the dictionary listings; if left unchanged, your first results would be from wikipedia, followed by other choices.

I did not find a fix yet, for Preview scrambling pictures on launch.

Hope this is of help.

Anyone have any issues with Air Drop not working? I tried transferring some photos from my iPhone to my MacBook Pro, and the MBP could NOT detect my iPhone. Tried restarting both phone and computer, radios (wifi and BT), etc.

I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro, and help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I just got a killer deal on an Xserve 3,1 online for 175 shipped, it has 96gb 2x2.66ghz 3x160gb. I got High Sierra to load successfully from a fast usb drive but the raid0 i made does not show up in disk management. The raid utility even comes up in High Sierra saying the battery is dead and lists the arrays but it never shows up as a usable disk. I could not install to the internal hdd's during install either. Is their anyway to fix this, will replacing the RAID battery help? Any help would be useful, Thanks!
