If anyone is interested, the latest 10.13.4 beta (17E150f) installed on MBP4,1 seamlessly. seems also that Apple optimized a few things, because present beta uses up less resources, at least on the laptops I have.

MacBook 5,1 Unibody, running High Sierra 10.13.3, anyone updated to 10.13.4 on same machine? Please share how you did that?

Running High Sierra (HS) on a MacPro 3.1 is amazing. In light of the fact that this isn't supported by Apple, running a beta version seems like an even bigger risk (to me anyway :)). So I have a question for those of you who use betas (public and developer).

Are you running HS beta's on your primary / only / production machine(s) - or is this just for testing?

If it is your primary / only / production machine(s), why? (Maybe I'm missing out on something :D)

My MBP4,1 17-inch got stuck after updating (first time ever), machine was responsive (cursor arrow, etc.) but no progress. I force-shut down the machine by pressing the on/off button for 5secs., restart, voilà presto, machine was working. I ran Onyx afterwards, just in case, and examined the macOs thoroughly for flaws, didn't run into any problems.

Except one problem with Safari, since at least 10.13.4 beta1: can't drag URLs from address field into finder anymore.
Any suggestions how to fix this? Seems to be a Safari-specific problem, since Chome browser works as per usual flawlessly.

Well, in general, I wonder why you want to run a Beta1 version? I would recommend to be on the official MacOS versions, or at least wait for beta3 >.

The MBPs I have (4,1 and 9,1) are both main machines and hobbies - I ain't got nothing else to do with time, and running both machines with the latest betas (and uninstalling, once in a while) is 'living dangerously' and keeps the brain alert - I hope. I also run both Windows 10 Insider Preview and Manjaro Budgie in VirtualBox in the 9,1... But I am a mere 73 (in September) and where I come from, age is a big thing, so I doff my hat (metaphorically) to jbarley for going strong still. I wish him many more years.
@roysterdoyster... the first 10.13.4 beta was a dog to use, really. the second beta is much more responsive. nowadays, i update directly from the AppStore server, and run @dosdude1's post-install patcher from a USB, check for the correct version (4,1), and run the patch... it is almost 'boring' because nothing breaks. The 9,1 is natively supported.
I will try to get some SSDs soon for both machines.

Seriously, I have this forum and its contributors to thank for a rejuvenated retirement.

I am running an MacBook Pro 5.3, after update 10.13.4 1 Public Beta from App Store the Preview and Photos application crashed any picture files (*.png, *.jpg. After one click all pictures were pixelated and impossible for further work. Installed Patch Updater didn't solve problem. Re-install 10.13.2 is solved all troubles. Is it correct for future update from App Store my Mac Pro 5.3. is not compatible?

On 2.8.18, Apple released to developers a new build of 10.13.4 beta 2, the 17E150g. This new release fixes Preview.app's graphic glitches, introduced in 10.13.4 beta 1, and continued through first version of beta 2, the build 17E150f.
Hope this may be of help. It is then likely, that for now, your machine and mine are compatible while using dosdudes1's patcher.

Hey all,

Just installed 10.13 on my Mac Pro 4,1 using the Patched Installer and everything installed perfectly. Almost too perfectly perhaps: upon the initial boot that's supposed to show a grey STOP sign, it actually booted into the OS with no Post Patch Install needed. Is that normal? I went back anyway to install the update fix and booted fine with the patch enabled.

As you have a MacPro 4.1 there is no need to use the patch to get Sierra or High Sierra You can upgrade the firmware of your mac so it in effect becomes a MacPro 5.1 and therefore supported in Sierra and High Sierra.

...nowadays, i update directly from the AppStore server

Woah, sounds new to me, how do you do that exactly from an unsupported machine!!! ? Please instruct.

The only place I found to d/l the beta updates on an unsupported machine is from zoneactu.fr, from there you only get the package/dmg files. No one on this forum has answered the question on how to wrap these into a full installer for later use with dosdude1's patcher.
Observing dosdude1's patcher doing the download work via built-in function, it seems to exactly do that trick.

Phantastic piece of work, dosdude1 !

I am running High Sierra 10.13.2 with the security update on my 20-inch 9,1 iMac and with Dosdude's patches everything runs fine (especially after running Onyx). However I hesitate to update to 10.13.3 since I have seen some reports in the thread of problems with this version. Does anyone tried to update his 9,1 iMac to 10.13.3? Is it working?

Yes, I got the exact same 9,1 iMac 24 inch on ssd. It is running like a charm!

Very impressive tool, and dedication to the older mac community! I'm having trouble getting the recovery volume usable by my Mac Pro 3,1 which give me the "prohibited" symbol when I try to boot into the recovery partition. My system boot drive after the successful High Sierra install is still HFS+, so the issue being mentioned by others here with the APFS I believe is not applicable. I installed the Recovery Partition patch (multiple times) but notice in the Patch Updater tool that it's not listed as an installed patch... not sure if that's indicative of an issue or not. I did a second full install of High Sierra plus same Post Install patches, but still no joy. Am I doing anything wrong here? Would very much appreciate any collective wisdom on this!

The Recovery HD PlatformSupport.plist file needs to be modified same as on the boot drive.
Here are a list of terminal commands that if followed in order will correct your problem.
------------------------
Open Terminal

1.) diskutil list
2.) diskutil mount disk "IDENTIFIER" of the Recovery HD"
3.) sudo pico /Volumes/Recovery\ HD/com.apple.recovery.boot/PlatformSupport.plist

First list add:

<string>Mac-F42C88C8</string>

Second list add:

<string>MacPro3,1</string>

4.) Ctrl-O

somewhere, lost in the mists of time on this forum, were instructions and patches on how to get updates directly from AppleStore servers, in effect fooling the servers to believing your machine was supported, and give you the updates (but not the file downloads). In effect, when the update from 10.13.4 beta 1 to beta 2 came up, it showed in the AppleStore, and you updated. I think I downloaded macOSPublicBetaUpdateUtility.pkg (registration needed) and that was it... of course, had it not been for those other 'enhancements', nothing would have happened. you could also try macOSSierraDeveloperBetaAccessUtility.pkg (google), but I prefer to stick to the Public Beta one. It almost always gives the same thing nowadays. For the records, i found using the zoneactu.fr downloads cumbersome... maybe it's me.

macOS High Sierra on Unsupported Macs

4lxKiPF.png

For the first time since OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) in 2012, macOS Sierra (10.12) changed the official minimum requirements needed for installation, leaving many older (but still perfectly capable) Macs behind. Now macOS High Sierra (10.13) brings a new set of updates, and older Macs that can possibly run them.

  • MacBook (late 2009 or later)
  • iMac (late 2009 or later)
  • MacBook Air (2010 or later)
  • MacBook Pro (2010 or later)
  • Mac mini (2010 or later)
  • Mac Pro (2010 or later)

Note this space!

Preliminary Tested Models List:

MacBookPro5,5 (13-inch Mid 2009) - No issues
MacBookPro5,4 (15-inch Mid 2009) - No issues
MacBookPro5,3 (15-inch Mid 2009) - No issues
MacBookPro5,1 (15-inch Late 2008) - No issues
MacBook5,1 (13-inch Unibody Aluminum Late 2008) - No issues

MacPro3,1 (Early 2008) - No issues

iMac7,1 (Mid 2007 W/BCM94360CAX and SSE4 supported T9300) - Screen brightness is controllable (NightShift works with modified CoreBrightness.frameworks)

iMac9,1 (Early 2009) - Missing Screen Brightness Controls (buttons don't work either)

MacBook5,2 (Early [Mid] 2009 MacBook) - Screen brightness not controllable (buttons don't work either), volume buttons do not work, same trackpad detected as USB mouse issue

Xserve2,1 (Early 2008) - graphics are unaccelerated with the original ATI X1300 unless an upgraded graphics card e.g. Nvidia GT 120 (from a Mac Pro) is installed

[doublepost=1518399030][/doublepost]Hello fellows.

MacBookPro5,5 (13-inch Mid 2009) runs without problem at:
System version: macOS 10.13 (17A365), Kernel: Darwin 17.0.0, Disk:SSD120G.

10.13.3 integrated update makes "Safari and App Store not working." Others looks fine.

Much appreciate if someone give me the solution or suggestions,

Thank you very much in advance.

I have been running patched versions for a couple of years now on my iMac 9,1 and do not have any problems.

10.13.3 and 10.13.4 are running great on my iMac9,1 (24-inch). Boot up is very slow (as is every other version of 10.13) but the system is responsive once logged in.

How slow? I have two of these in my shop and I would say it's no more than 30 seconds if that for either of them to boot up. I wonder if you have something else going on with your system/configuration...?
