I have successfully updated my Mac Pro 3,1 (Early 2008 8-core 2.8, ATI Radeon 5770) to High Sierra. My first attempt using APFS on a 3rd party SSD didn't work, but with HFS+ it went smoothly. The only issue I have noticed so far is that if I switch apps to full screen, the desktop goes bright red before it is obscured, and it does the same as apps come out of full screen, only returning to the desktop image once the process is complete. It doesn't go red with minimise or any other screen movement. Other than this small anomaly, all seems well.
Im trying to install High Sierra on my 2009 Mac Pro, I've upgraded to Firmware 5,1 along with CPU and RAM, but every time I attempt to update the firmware it shuts down and I do as instructed to get the updated Firmware installed however it reboots and nothing. Comes right back to the "shut down" Firmware program. No other error shows up, it remains 10.12.6. '
I have Sonnet Tech Pro which I run my SSD off of, could that be the problem?
Wouldn't hurt trying popping it into one of the regular disk bays and doing the install, and popping it back on the Tempo after that. Tempo has been causing some problems during the beta for some folks here.

If an existing backup has a HFS+ formatted SSD / HDD and now the HS system has an APFS formatted SSD / HDD, will the restore from time machine revert back to the original format (i.e. HFS+) ? Mahalo.
First time poster, but long time reader here. I have a MacPro 3,1 with four HDD in the bays and an Apricorn PCI card for my boot Samsung 850. It runs Sierra very well, but is recognized as an external drive. Will I be able to go to HS in APFS, or will I need to use HFS instead? I don’t want to have to put the SSD in one of the bays. Thanks. Oh, and I still have the original graphics card in there so that won’t pose an issue with HS.

I have a similar setup with Samsung EVO on Sonnet PCI card and it runs APFS fine with no issues
Curious. Ran the dosdude tool with SSD in the PCI card, but it would stall in the EFI startup screen being unable to find the drive at the very end. Tried it with two different USB sticks; same result.Ended up erasing the SSD and clean installing HS in HFS+. Now migrating files from the CCC backup. Eventually want to use APFS on the SSD. Not sure if I’ll be able to convert it to APFS while in the Apricorn card. Would DU be able to update it to APFS if I put it temporarily in a SATA slot? And would it boot from the SSD if I then moved it back to the Apricorn card?

Has anyone got an unmodified RX480 GPU working? I used to follow https://www.theitsage.com/install-radeon-rx-480-gpu-macos-sierra/ to get it working, but with an old 2600XT plugged in to get the EFI portion booted. According to the page, 480X is supported natively. But I can only boot the 2600XT solo. If both cards are in the machine I get stuck at the following.

The RX480 alone posts the beep, but I can't blind boot it either, so I suspect it's still stuck at the same spot.
Seems to crop itself up in the hackintosh realm but any of their easier fixes do not work. SIP is disabled.

Got an odd problem. Got a MacPro early 2009 (4.1 flashed to 5,1 last year) Got an OWC SSD for the boot drive in the main drive cabinet. Been running Sierra just fine, through 10.13.6 - During the summer I tried installing the betas but they seemed to hang so I gave up on them. I tried installing the formal release Monday. I did the download, started the install app from the download - it rebooted, and came up on the screen with the 4 OS utilities (Time machine, reinstall the OS, Disk Utility, and Tech Support). I selected reinstall the OS and - it tried to install the High Sierra beta? Not sure where that was, there was not a copy of that in the Application Folder! Could not just exit back, so i used Time Machine to restored it to 3PM Monday Afternoon. I thought it was something weird with the SDD and High Sierra, so I found the original 1TB Seagate HDD, pulled the SDD and put the seagate HDD back in, and restored it with timemachine to 3PM Monday. Downloaded the formal release 10.13, started the app to install it, did the reboot, got to the utilities screen - selected reinstall the OS, and got an error screen that it couldn't install El Capitan? Maybe that was the default on the hard drive before I did the Time Machine restore ... ?
But I powered down and put the OWC SDD back in, and did the reinstall to Monday at 3PM ...
So - I'm thinking maybe these are the OSs tied to the recover partition on each drive? Can I delete them? I don't see them in Disk utility ...
I was expecting it to just be a normal OS upgrade to go from Sierra to High Sierra on a machine that thinks its an Authorized machine - but somehow it does not see the High Sierra Install App once it does the reboot ...
Any ideas? Maybe I need to create a USB install "drive" for High Sierra?
I do have the original Apple NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB of GDDR3 memory - I had upgraded last year to an Apple nVidia GTX 285 1GB Video Card - both were available in the macPro towers so I would not expect the card to be an issue but ...?
Wow. For the Canadians, Amazon Canada is selling Transcend 4 GB DDR3 1066 MHz PC3-8500 CL7 SODIMMs for CAD$22.50, so a total of $45 for a pair (8 GB total). (That's just over 15 Euros or $18 US apiece.) Perfect time to upgrade some of those unsupported but High Sierra compatible MacBooks, MacBook Pros, and iMacs.
I have successfully updated my Mac Pro 3,1 (Early 2008 8-core 2.8, ATI Radeon 5770) to High Sierra. My first attempt using APFS on a 3rd party SSD didn't work, but with HFS+ it went smoothly. The only issue I have noticed so far is that if I switch apps to full screen, the desktop goes bright red before it is obscured, and it does the same as apps come out of full screen, only returning to the desktop image once the process is complete. It doesn't go red with minimise or any other screen movement. Other than this small anomaly, all seems well.View attachment 721401

All you have to do is boot from your USB installer, and proceed through the install selecting the volume containing your Sierra install without erasing it in Disk Utility. This is explained on my webpage.

Thanks for the info. I haven't tried Time Machine yet, as I am still running Sierra on another partition for all my day-to-day functionality and work; I won't switch over until I know it's going to be stable and Adobe sort out the Illustrator issues with and update.
High Sierra issue on my MBP5,3 (mid-2009) with internal drives.
Prior to HS, my Sierra system had 2 internal drives - a SSD and a HDD. After successfully upgrading to High Sierra, my system only shows the SSD, with the HDD not mounted (or listed) on Disk Utility. I checked my latest Time Machine backup and verified that 2 Volumes were in the backup. From the terminal, I tried a 'tmutil restore' from the HDD volume, but unfortunately the data was not restored. Also tried to do a "Migration Assistant" restore, but my source only shows the SSD volume on the backup.
Do you guys have any suggestion on how I could re-mount or make visible, my internal HDD on High Sierra? Most of my core data (such as my virtual machine boxes on VMware) reside on the HDD. Thanks for any input/suggestion/feedback.
Since upgrading yesterday to High Sierra on my MacPro 3,1 with the Radeon GPU Card 5770, I noticed the first glitch this morning with no wake-up from a one-hour sleep. I had to make an hard restart and now I decided to put the Energy Saver System Preferences to never sleep. Somebody else noticed this problem today ????????

On USB i see iSight integrata....but if i go in Fotocamera system says no camera detected...
