Do you maybe have an external installer of any macOS version where you can boot from? I am not sure, but I think if you would go into the Terminal there, disabling SIP might also be possible.

And what method did you use to create the failed one?

I partitioned an external drive and put some Installers on it 1-2 weeks ago, but never tried if booting is possible. I don't see anything available as Startup Disk in System Settings. View attachment 2419473

For a clean install erasing all content and settings should also be enough now. I don't know if those externals installers even still work. Or maybe I just chose the wrong file system.

Edit: They also don't show up when I hold the option key while booting.
For external boot drive, you only have the images in the screenshot. You still need to create a bootable drive by running the app that's in the dmg. I followed this to create the bootable drive: https://support.apple.com/en-us/101578 and create a bootable drive with the matching OS that's on your system.

Once you create a bootable drive, then hold down the Option+Power On and you can select the external drive to boot from. Using the public release Sequoia, I couldn't get it to install onto the external drive.

There are some people on reddit now that tried DFU and bricked their machines so YMMV with DFU. I don't have the time or patience to do a clean erase and install as I would need to restore from my Time Machine backup anyway. No way I'm building the system fresh from new for this issue. I'm also pretty sure that Apple FK'd something up in this release to cause the issue in the first place and will need to issue an update to fix it.

Really annoyed by the fact Calendar is still asking for location permissions after every relaunch. Especially after doing an erase & install of macOS Sequoia.

Is anyone else seeing this?

I have had no issue DFU restoring an M1 Air, M2 Air, and M2 mini with the release IPSW. I did all 3 DFU's about 4-5 hours ago. Both M2 systems had been DFU restored to RC previously.
No issues setting up Apple Pay on the Air's, I don't have a TouchID keyboard handy to test the mini.

Unfortunately, I never "OTA" updated an AS from beta to RC/RTM/GM/whatever you want to call release, I also run default security/SIP settings and have no extensions so I can't give feedback on those.

The only issue I have run into is the Find My people widget shows location unavailable, only have this issue on my 2019 iMac, no issues with the Find My app itself, clean install of macOS made no difference.... No problem with this widget on every other Mac on hand.

Calendar has been fine for me so far across multiple mac's, have checked it after rebooting and shutting down too.

Honestly, the more I use this in just 12 hours... would not recommend. 15.0 is one of the buggiest initial macOS releases I've ever used.

Some more issues found, which are all in the realm of basic sh** that should normally just work:
  • Individual applications get extremely confused about what the default browser is if you tend to change that often. As a test, I switched between Safari, Firefox, and Chome. 3 different applications decide to open https:// URL's to ALL THREE at random.
  • They really managed to f**k up the bluetooth stack horrendously. In addition to short-length audio streams like notification sounding cut-off and distorted, my Magic Keyboard just started spamming a key at random and refused to disconnect from the Settings pane. Only fix was to filly unpair it and re-pair it.
  • Anything that does any sort of traffic filtering via network extensions (eg: Little Snitch, AdGuard, Cisco Secure Client) needs to be completely uninstalled and reinstalled to actually function properly or DNS traffic is black-holed.
This is just not usable in its current state and is laughably bad. They are obviously more focused on getting 15.1 out for Apple Intelligence. I should have seen the writing on the wall that their decision to do parallel development on both 15.0 and 15.1 before public release was a very bad sign of some unprecedented development practices. They are obviously in a crunch.

What does this even mean? I don’t accept the premise you’re basing this on.
You do not need to restart to fix memory leaks. Monterey 12.0 had a terrible leak in Windows “windowserver” using Netflix(2 hours of netflix watch had it drawing 20 gb of ram). All you need to do to fix any of the leaking apps is to open Activity Monitor in a desktop all by itself, keep it open, and then force quit any app that is sucking memory. Its quick and easy and requires NO RESTART.

does everyone have empty space on all four sides of a maximized window still showing the desktop? This is goofy as all heck.

AirDrop can't be place on Finder sidebar anymore, the option appears but when selecting it it unmarks itself. Is it something new or a bug?

EDIT. Fixed itself after a reboot.

EDIT 2. Its definitely a bug, it disappears randomly.

I can't remember the last time I had a macOS update this buggy - it must be 6 or 7 years at least.

Loading sites in Firefox intermittently fails, its as if macOS is intercepting some but not all network traffic and drops connections seemingly randomly.

The number of nagging pop-ups is nothing short of infuriating. It feels like every single app I've been using for years now results in 1-3 new popups prompting if I really want to allow network, webcam or screen sharing access - which is made worse by the management of these pop ups being basically non-existent and having no centralised view of access to configure apps in one go.

With all these nagging popups it feels like I'm using windows!

Absolute nightmare.

I confirm! Then I was wrong, simply with the original Sonoma background, which had the light sky, the transparency with blur seemed simple transparency, instead it is always transparency with blur, now that I have the forest background, the menu bar is very dark.
Mine seems solid, I don't have any transparency!
Is there anything I can do to make the bar transparent?

Yesterday I installed MacOS Sequoia and this is the first bug I found:

The calendar widgets show the months and days in English, when I have configured the language "Spanish" in the settings

It only happens with the calendar widget so I really don't know what the problem is, I already tried to restart and remove the widgets but it didn't work

If you have Notifications from iOS set to show up on macOS, and you clear the Notifications on macOS, they're still on your iPhone. Not sure if that's just a limitation in how that all works or what, but I submitted FB15166083.

Also looks like the "You can no longer use a Photos app Album Folder to Cycle thru Desktop Background Wallpaper" bug carries on! I submitted FB13282770 on October 17, 2023 and FB12202204 on May 24, 2023!

I use Busycal (2024 version) as an organizer of my tasks.
All latest years I have it in 'login items', so that every time I boot mac, I have it opened for me.

After updating to Sequoia, not only it disappeared from 'login items', but also no matter how many times I tried to add it there (+ sign - login items), it cannot be added, I really do not understand why.

Any ideas?
:(

Hi, all. My wife updated her M2 MacBook to Sequoia and now Safari won’t load any pages. Cleared cache, restarted, etc., to no avail. The network is fine. Chrome loads everything fine, it’s just Safari giving me a problem. I cleared out some old plug-ins in case they were causing issues, still nothing.

I reinstalled Sequoia through the recovery system and that didn’t fix it either.

Any ideas?

Check in Safari’s installed extensions for what access they have, if any. I’m my case, Safari reset and everything had to be re-enabled again.

My only idea would be trying this app instead, but it seems not to be free. Can't remember buying it, but I already have it in the AppStore.

Edit: I have it in SetApp but don't use it. I can add it. But am on 15.1 Beta. Did you try to just right click and check open at login? But it didn't even ask for permission to launch on login what apps like this normally do at first launch.

Thanks for the idea but she has no extensions installed. I also tried accessing Safari on my account (on her laptop) and it’s also not working.

*EDIT* holy smokes, I got it working. I’m not sure why, but turning on a rotating private wi-fi address and limit ip address tracking did the trick…….?

Any idea why that would make it work?!

Sounds like some sort of Privacy Setting had to be reset somehow, but maybe was hosed somewhere and wasn't clearing out? Glad it's working now! :)

Yeah, I put them back.

I did update again using the full installer and it cleared the System Extension error from popping up after reboot but there is still something wrong with this RC build. Apple Pay is still disabled due to some security setting and I can't disable SIP in Recovery mode.

I even tried making a bootable USB to boot from that but the installer won't finish, getting a 'can't personalize' error when trying to install Sequoia onto the USB.

At this point, I'm just going to wait for Apple to fix it as it wasn't an issue before RC.f

Edit:
Looks like a lot of people are having the 'can't personalize' error and it seems Apple may be aware of the issue.

The "log out of iCloud" also fixes the System Extensions, SIP and Security Policy issues that I and some others are having. Thanks to the person who figured this out!!!

I logged out of iCloud and disabled Find My.
Rebooted into Recovery Mode
Am finally able to change adjust Security Policy and disable SIP.
For me, I disabled SIP and set Security Policy to Reduced
Restart and removed the old /Library/Extensions/AppleMobileDevice.kext file (not sure I needed to though).
Re-Enable SIP.

Everything is running smoothly, Apple Pay is working, no system extension errors. Was able to reinstall Lacie Raid Manager and no issues.

I am happy to report that time machine finally backs up again with the lid closed on my M1 MBP as it is supposed to. I was so frustrated having to backup manually and keep the lib open and screen active during backups.

Sequoia doesn't support more than 60Hz to an external display for me. Driving me nuts. Just outputs nothing when the setting is above 60Hz. I'm using an M1 Pro 16" MacBook Pro, a 165Hz 4K Dell monitor, a high refresh rate USB-C->DP adapter and a DP cable. Previously, Sonoma had no issues outputting 144Hz to my monitor. FFS Apple.

Perhaps a silly suggestion, but have you checked the privacy settings of your mac and/or your other iOS devices?

Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Location Services -> Calendar toggle on.

Also, if you have reset your mac and then restore an icloud/time machine back up essentially nothing changes.
