I was surprised when I did a fresh install of Tahoe on my MacBook Air, none of my Cloud files that I dragged to the desktop on my other devices showed up.

I had to go into Settings -> ICLOUD and manually turn on a half dozen prompts to enable iCloud syncing of files

That kind of stuff is usually turned on by default when you update/install an OS, but I suppose this is a beta bug or I am mistaken about it needing to be automatically enabled.

This is as it should be. I've gotten really weary (and wary) of Apple turning on iCloud services after major upgrades.

Not having to scramble around hurriedly turning off services I don't want enabled - especially on an early beta - was a welcome change.

However, ,File Vault is on by default. Would be nice if all your settings were stored in iCloud to make reinstalls easier.

The first of my installed apps adapted the new design in a pre-release, except the glass effect. I don't really like those huge sliders.

A few items, good and bad:

  • Cannot reboot remotely and then reconnect via screen sharing, login credentials must be entered with keyboard while using connected monitor (may look to resolve with automatic login, but would rather not). Worked on Sequoia. May be connected to FileVault status, which I can't remember if I ever enabled or not
  • The older version of iStat Menus has a memory leak that didn't exist in Sequoia; it's pretty bad (note, I wholeheartedly disagree with the sentiment in the wiki that memory leaks always exist in all OSs). Haven't tried the new version yet as I don't like the changes they've made
  • Photos has more support for HDR. It's not everywhere and I can't tell if I can edit in or to HDR yet like Lightroom, nor am I sure which formats are getting support
  • Also in Photos, there's also a lot more photoanalysis and mediaanalysis including audio components (music and speech), not quite sure what's going on here but guessing what people say and music in videos is being extracted
  • Photos capabilities for external libraries seems to be on par with what one would expect with internal libraries, which is good - this was very rough for Sequoia overall. Hopefully Apple had backed off the artificial limitation of only getting all capabilities on internally stored collections. My library is well over 1TB. Yes, the message "This library isn't searchable in Spotlight due to its location" message but I can search via spotlight just fine.
  • Can't find a way to show bluetooth device (keyboard, trackpad) battery level on the menu bar, or anywhere actually. I do see 0% for both devices when in each respective control panel, but that's clearly inaccurate.
  • While almost all of my settings (iCloud and local machine) were respected, I found Focus being shared amongst devices, which I had turned off on all of my devices
  • Lots of UI issues, but expected at this point in the game

Is anyone having trouble with their browsers after the update. I have had to do two hard starts to get things in order but still a slower performance than before. I have run malware and virus scan and nothing shows up. I could not connect to the music or news or other web based programs. I have sent in the troubleshooting to Apple.

Safari, Edge, Firefox - Every site I frequent loads well, except Facebook (Safari), so no big loss.
