Facebook is still a mess after the upgrade and some pages just freeze for no reason.
Safari is a disaster

^^^^I don't put aliases's in the dock aliases in the dock, I move the application. The app, of course, stays in the app folder where it belongs and an aliases is created. However, I just created an aliases of an app and moved it to the dock and it worked as it should.

From Google Search:

"To rebuild your Mac OS computer's desktop, start or restart the computer while pressing the Option and Cmd keys. Keep these keys depressed all the way through the booting process until the computer asks if you are sure you want to rebuild the desktop. Click Yes."

Thank you. For me aliases in the dock look like this since the update to Ventura:

PS: Can you please try this with creating an alias of a folder and then put the alias from the folder in the dock? That was what I originally have meant. In my example I created an alias of the downloads folder and put the alias in the dock because I always want to open the folder with one click. Thank you

why not just drag the actual downloads folder to the dock? what's the point of the alias? 🤔

As I mentioned, I put the alias in the dock because I always want to open the folder with one click. It's my workflow of opening my most used folder. I use this folder like other people use the desktop.

you're missing my point. you don't need an alias; if you drag the downloads folder itself (or any folder) you'll get a shortcut in the dock; simple.

The behavior is different. If you drag a folder instead of an alias in the dock, you have to click "open in finder" first bevor it opens. With the alias it opens the folder right away.

right, but have you at least tried it, to see if the folder itself shows correctly in the dock? or try copying and pasting a generic folder icon on the alias itself, then dragging that to the dock.

Yes. As you can see in my picture above, folders are shown correct, alias icons not. Could you test if you have the same issue? That would be great.

same here. folders show correctly, aliases (i even tried pasting the icon over the alias first) show as generic white icons.

have you tried clicking & holding on a folder in the dock? 'open in finder' pops right up. pretty simple, really. otherwise, you're stuck with those icons (at least until/if apple sorts this out).

Thank you for checking this. You saved me time :). I was almost very close to reinstalling.

But you sure you mean aliases and not folders? I mean when you create an alias and put the alias instead of the folder to the dock.
I have a folder on my desktop that has 6 aliases of internet apps. I'll try and drag one of them to the dock, and see what happens. But all works well with that folder on the desktop, and the aliases inside it.

Update: OK. First tried this with Monterey, ie, dragged the alias of Brave from the Internet Applications folder to the dock, clicked on it, and it worked. Then connected my external Samsung SSD with V13.0.1 of Ventura on it, and restarted. Took a while to get to the desktop (have not recently "played" with Ventura much), and did the same thing, ie, dragged the alias of Brave to the dock, clicked on it, and voila, Brave launched as expected.

the issue isn't whether apps launch, but why folder aliases appear as generic white icons. are you seeing a brave icon or a generic one?

Lately I keep getting the message that this webpage is using a lot of memory, closing the window will help.

I have never, even once seen this warning before Ventura. I was on Doordash for only a few minutes and it has happened when on facebook as well

Definitely a Brave icon. Also did the same with a Firefox alias, and again it was a Firefox icon, and it worked. So another "stepping on" something that works in production.
