I think you are using TextEdit. I did say to use BBEdit https://www.barebones.com/products/bbedit/index.html which does understand plists.

All we know so far is that one computer is having this problem.

What is the last modified and last opened date/time on the preference file?
Do these change when you change update frequency in AM?
What the permissions on the file?
Can you see the UpdatePeriod key in the plist file?
Actually I can confirm that another user is having the same problem as me. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/activity-monitor-bug-in-macos-ventura.2369342/

Just used this code in the terminal and it says it's 5. But it is actually refreshing every 1 second even though 5 is selected. So I have to click on it every time I want to have it actually update every 5 seconds.

There does appear to be a problem with Activity Monitor not following the stored preferences. I can replicate it here.

Try this:

1) Quit activity monitor

2) In the Terminal, enter:

defaults delete com.apple.activitymonitor UpdatePeriod

3) Open Activity Monitor and select Update Frequency 5 sec

4) Quit and open it again, to see if it stuck

Another question:

What about other settings. Do they also reset to default? Let's be specific: View > Columns > add some. Do these reset to default? What about View > All Processes?

I would still like to know what is in the plist file.

I ask to determine if this is a general Safari Preferences saving or loading issue. Or is it specific to one setting (update frequency).

some of the bugs I discovered:
- trackpad zoom in and out does not always work in Safari, Preview or even Photos.
- English dictation does not work in messages app for instance.

overall this must be the worst macOS upgrade I had personally experienced. add to it that apple completely broke screen time requests on Apple Watch and this round of updates does not make me happy at all

Dictation doesn’t work. It can see that I’m speaking, but my voice isn’t processed.

On a positive note, RC seems to have fixed the internal display flickering…
I have the same problem with dictation. What is odd, I have 2nd language installed and dictation works flawlessly each time, but not for English.

MacBook Pro M1 2020
Have a significant frame drops / UI lagging in widgets menu (after clicking “edit widgets”). It was even on first betas, stable version, and now, on 13.1 beta 2 nothing has changed. The same problem on iMac M1.
Is anyone has the same?

Can you on/off this setting? I cannot deactivate this setting. Is this just for me or is it actually a bug?

Hotkeys for controlling music playback don’t work after updating to 13.0.1.

I can't stand the new system preferences list view. Why can't they make the old icon view as an option?
Apple actually made it more difficult, not supposed to be their thang

My apologies if someone has already mentioned this and I missed it.

With Messages, both my MacBook Air and Mac Studio will sometimes show a number instead of contact name for someone stored in Contacts. If I quit Messages and restart it, it usually shows the name. This also occurs with my iPhone as well. macOS Ventura 13.0.1.

I submitted a report via Feedback Assistant. Who knows if Apple even reads those things.

When I enable Stage Manager, I do not see the side bar for it on Desktop 1 but see it on Desktop 2. It has been happening on both 13 and 13.0.1. Any ideas?

Is anyone else having issues with WiFi working upon resuming from sleep? I can't really figure out how to reliably reproduce it, but sometimes upon waking my 2021 14" MacBook Pro from sleep, it'll show that the WiFi is connected, but the internet won't actually be working. Disabling and re-enabling the WiFi or connecting to a different network doesn't fix the issue; just a restart (and I've had a couple of moments where I've had to restart twice). This only started for me when I upgraded to Ventura, and it's happened on both 13.0 and 13.0.1...

Might go the Support route, but I'm hoping that this isn't a one-off case because I doubt there is a hardware issue and I don't want to bother exchanging units...

Have you tried deleting the PLISTS?

Also having this problem sporadically. Initially I thought it was my access points (Ubiquiti U6-Enterprise), but I think it's more macOS/MacBook than the network equipment.

Would this delete saved WiFi networks on my other iCloud-connected devices?

Glad to hear (well, sort of) that I'm not alone. I've had the issue both at home and at work, so I figure it's not related to networks.

Deleting the plist won't do anything to iCloud, in regards to your network, it will just dump whats there, re-install and you'll have to re-input and connect to your Wi-Fi it's pretty painless.
