The latter is possible. I don't want a 7300. What I really want to be able to do is flash the card that I already have (a 7800GT). I may never be able to do that though.

For those worrying about price drops Apple have always passed these on in similar situations in the past (you only have to look as far back as the MBP launch).

I've read that a 7800GTX was successfully converted to a Quadro but there aren't any details on that yet. Can a 7800GT be flashed into a 7800GTX? I haven't looked yet. If someone with a Quadro 4500 can install Windows and then extract the card's firmware and post it on here. Then someone with a 7800GTX could try flashing it to their card (after backing up the original firmware of course).

I'm wondering if we'll see a BTO option for the X1950XT at $350 now. Perhaps they will in fact bump orders already placed up to an X1950XT, but if they don't I'd better at least get that $100 back! :)
I know, seriously, I will be WICKED pissed if that doesn't happen.

I called as well, and my account has been credited $90 to observe the new (educational) price. Ship date still the same and everything. Cool!

How much of a performance increase will there be with the x1950 xtx? BTW the x1900 xt has been lowered here too. :D :D Also, what if these 1950xtx's DO come with the comps that are being shipped friday or w/e. Does that mean that if you order it after that, it will only be an x1900 or will they permanantley change it to the x1950 xtx?

What does that mean?

I called apple, told them about the price drop, and asked to be credited the $90 that accounts for the recent price drop.

ie. The old upgrade was $315. The new upgrade is $225. That's a $90 difference.

I messaged Apple to give me the better price then I looked at my order and noticed it had already been adjusted.

Ditto here. Nice surprise to wake up to. LOL I just wish they could have reduced the shipping time along with the price.

I just went into my account, and my order is $90 cheaper. They automatically reduced the price of my order accordingly. Good for them! :)

However, i'm still calling them, because if they are gonna but an option for a X1950XTX in there, at $350, then I want that!

I just thought you meant that they gave you $90 of credit to your account that you had to spend on Apple products or something, which would have sucked a bit not just having it subtracted from your final bill.

That's what happened, right? You're just going to get billed less? If not, was there a choice to be billed less?

That's really good to hear, last thing I need is to have to screw around with phone support, or somehow NEVER get my $90, or, once getting my $90, there being an X1950 XTX that people got auto-upgraded to.

Right now I think they're just going to offer the X1900 XT for less expensive prices. I really don't see an X1950 XTX in the cards, this price decrease was just to keep people from getting nasty about getting an older card for so much money.

Only thing that pisses me off about all this is that if the GPU had been cheaper right off the bat, I could've been under the $2500 Massachusetts tax-free weekend limit and saved $140 or so in taxes. Oh well.

I think if they do offer that option, it'll be by an email or something. Saying "you ordered this option but we're offering this one at no (or little) extra cost". Something along those lines.

Keep in mind, they may just have so many pissed off buyers that they did this to appease them. LOL That or they got enough orders that they got a price break from ATI and are just passing that on.

I didn't order one thinking that I could get a flashed PC version for much cheaper. Now with the price drop, I can deal with the now only $50 apple tax, just so I don't have to deal with flashing the card.

Of course this is assuming that they ever ship these cards . . .

Realistically, I'm doubting that they'll offer an X1950 XTX option. Why? Because it would be stupid for them to have two cards honestly within 5% of each other performance-wise, while not having a single midrange card. Also, I think they would have asked us before the price drop.

For those in the UK, be patient waiting for the price drop, if it comes - it takes a few days for them to enact things, since it's essentially a different business. Give it a few days.

I think Mr. Mister is right. It just doesnt make sense for them, financially, to add the x1950. They would probably add the x1600 or a 7600 or something like that. unless they took the 1900xt away cpmpletely and just left the 1950, but that wouldnt make sense either...sry typing as i think.
