this is a good sign, because hopefully when Apple introduces a minitower, or a gaming imac, with an ability to upgrade the graphics chip, they will similarly keep prices down

The mac pro is an everything computer. gaming, video, work, everything. Why are you waiting for something that might not even come out when you have the fastest computer in the world in a store near you?

Realistically, I'm doubting that they'll offer an X1950 XTX option. Why? Because it would be stupid for them to have two cards honestly within 5% of each other performance-wise, while not having a single midrange card. Also, I think they would have asked us before the price drop.

The x1950 XTX is supposed to have a much better and quieter cooling system, which might be reason enough. Nontheless, it would be a good option and they can drop the x1900 for the newer card.

Overall my feeling about this is "whatever".
Right, because it's much easier for you to just take a negative tone then to see something that might be important to others.

I agree.

And by the way, X1900XT's are shipping tommorow.

Hmmmm... been fooled once by someone who said that the upgrade kits were shipping today. Where did you get this information?

"Whatever" being the diametric inverse of "WAAAH I WANTED X1950 XTX AAAUGH APPLE SUX"

Only thing that pisses me off about all this is that if the GPU had been cheaper right off the bat, I could've been under the $2500 Massachusetts tax-free weekend limit and saved $140 or so in taxes. Oh well.

Thing is, I don't have any friends over the border who I can ship CTO systems to.

I can't believe that Apple would drop the price on something before the first one even ships.

They did it with the MacBook Pros...well, rather they bumped the processor speed up for free (before they were even shipped).

It would have been idiodic if they didn't because as soon as the X1950 XTX is released prices on the X1900 XT are going to plummet.

That other guy flat out lied. He said that he got a shipping confirmation for his X1900XT Upgrade Kit.

I don't have a source, except for myself. I just know they're shipping tommorow.

That's really good to hear, last thing I need is to have to screw around with phone support, or somehow NEVER get my $90, or, once getting my $90, there being an X1950 XTX that people got auto-upgraded to.

Right now I think they're just going to offer the X1900 XT for less expensive prices. I really don't see an X1950 XTX in the cards, this price decrease was just to keep people from getting nasty about getting an older card for so much money.

Only thing that pisses me off about all this is that if the GPU had been cheaper right off the bat, I could've been under the $2500 Massachusetts tax-free weekend limit and saved $140 or so in taxes. Oh well.

well, you could try to get a tax exempt, it isn't that hard to do. I have done it...all you need to do a fill out some paperwork and send it in, of course, that was in Ohio, not Mass.

This kind of sucks. Since everyone's X1900XT equipped Mac Pro's will be shipping tommorow, mine is gonna arrive the day after tommorow, and my moniter won't be here yet......:(
