So now I will get my Mac Pro in about a week and my graphics card in a bit over a month. I am exhausted :(

Why do people keep saying this? There is no way the X1900XT is gonna take a month from NOW to ship!

Those girls that work there know absolutetly nothing. Zero. Zip.

They say things that make no sense and simply aren't true, because they just don't know.

A few of the things they have said (including what you've reported), have been things like:

"Modifying your order won't affect the ship date"

"The X1900XT is not what's causing the delay"

They even were stupid enough to.. blah. Check this out!

I called them to ask why my estimated delivery date was a week after my estimated ship date, in spite of having overnight shipping.

After being put on hold for 10 minutes, the girl comes back and tells me that she went into my account to try and give me free 2 day shipping, but then she saw that I already had it. WTF? What did this have to do with what I asked?? Why would she go into my account and try and give me "free 2 day shipping" when I JUST TOLD HER that I have overnight shipping???

I said "I don't have 2 day shipping, I have overnight shipping. Right?". I want to know why the delivery date shows October 3rd instead of September 27th.

She didn't really have an answer, she kept saying nonsense, until finally I said "So I guess those dates don't mean anything" and she said "yah".

whew. Annoying stuff.

I don't think it is just the "girls" ... I have talked to my fair share of ill-informated "guys" too. I don't think they have nearly enough training to handle some of the questions we throw at them.

Yeah, the gal I talked to told me that my next day shipping doesn't even count because it is being BTO. While there may be some truth to that (after all, it comes from overseas) I find it highly unlikely considering my newly revised order is *still* BTO and shows up on my order status page as getting their next day.

I guess the moral of the story is to take *everything* Apple reps say with a grain of salt unless they happen to be the senior administrators.

No, no ... sorry ... I meant to say that *Apple* is saying that is the estimated ship date. I have no doubt it will ship out faster ... how much faster is anyones guess.

Wait are you saying that they told you that overnite shipping means nothing? My computer isn't gonna arrive the day after it ships?

I have no idea. Apple rep says one thing, order status says another ... I guess we shall wait and see. I woud hope it does since that is what I paid for.

[EDIT: and remember the Apple rep who said that is the same one who screwed up my order ... the senior admin lady I spoke with that corrected everything did not say anything about it not getting here next day after shipping]

I have no idea what she did to do that but apparently it *doesn't work* that way. Modifying your order *will always* change your ship date according to the senior lady.

I asked her several times why the other gal was able to do it and really didn't get much more of a satisfactory answer than that.

My estimated ship date would have been pushed back until early October if I hadn't removed the ATI card and ordered it seperately.

If I removed my ATI card and ordered it seperately, they'd "cancel" and "reorder" my entire order. Then my ship date would be something like September 7th, and by then my current order might ship....

"You were charged $61.00 for expedited shipping. The service you are paying for sets the expectation that the product, when shipped from an Apple warehouse, will take 1 to 2 business days from the date of shipment to deliver to your address. Products shipped prior to 5:00 p.m. EST, via overnight service are normally delivered by 3:00 p.m. local time one business day after shipment."

The only reason the Mac Pro isn't a recommendable gaming machine is because no games right now can put four cores to full use. That said, it's a spectacular gaming machine, just a bit of overkill until Vista and more multi-core games.

The high latency of FB-DIMMS also has a negative affect on framerates. A cheaper conroe based system would have faster results for all but the most demanding tasks. That being said, you shouldn't have to pay over two grand for a professional workstation just to play a game or other high end consumer tasks.

Ok, let's think about this logically for a minute. PC cards wont boot up mac os x. Why? Because of EFI. So What if we applied one of the EFI patches floating around to one of our Mac Pros? This would remove the EFI part of OSX, and force it to boot up using BIOS. Wouldn't this also activate the PC graphics card leaving us with no other problems except for drivers? I'm thinking my logic is pretty solid on this one.

Screw it, I'm pulling out my ******cx dvd right now and trying this on my spare HD.

Honestly multi, at this point, after pissing on the fire ant bed for about six hours, are we supposed to believe anything that Mr. Mister says?

I see he is banned. I wasn't here for what he did wrong. So you think he was just playing troll to my question? I thought ATI had rotation support for Dell monitors in all their cards. My old Dual 2.5 GHz G5 had an ATI card and it showed rotation support right in the Monitor System Preference.
Chone said:
Well from a technical standpoint all cards, ATI or NVIDIA support rotation, the fact that drivers don't is another matter altogether...
Well why did the drivers for the old Dual 2.5 PCI-X ATI Cards include Dell Rotation Support and none of the NVIDEA PCIe Cards from last October's Dual Core G5's nor the Mac Pros? I don't understand. :(

Just got this from Apple this morning. Here's the official line:

If the shipping date changes, Apple will send a revised estimated shipping time to xxxxxx@xxx.

When your order ships, Apple will send a notification to xxxxxx@xxx.

Starting this morning I can't cancel my mac pro with x1900xt order.

Does this really mean anything or it just happens every now and then?

I agree.....

I placed my Mac Pro order the other day, only after managing to take out a $2900 loan (at a lousy interest rate, no less!) in order to get the thing! I sold my PowerMac G5 dual 2.0 tower, but only got about $1250 out of it on eBay (despite it having 3GB of RAM, a Radeon 9800 Pro special edition graphics card, and other upgrades!). If it weren't for the fact that it can double as a high-performance Windows XP box, I would have just kept the G5 and all that money.

I'd really like the ATI X1900 video because I do like playing games on my Mac, and I also want to work with Apple Motion a little bit. But considering it added the delay time to the order, PLUS the added cost, I sunk the money into a 500GB hard drive and 2GB of 3rd. party RAM instead. I'll just "poke along" with the nVidia 7300 for a while, I suppose. It's tough to find direct, head-to-head benchmarks comparing it with my Radeon 9800SE card I had in my G5. But the few comparisons I found make it look like even this "slow" 7300GT is a superior card to what I'm used to.

Trekkie said:
Dropping the $3000 on the machine is at the absolute extreme of my budget, at this point I'm doing anything I can to keep it around there. Buying two video cards is one of those things I can't afford to do without trading out something else.
