hi guys, I am having trouble with my Mac Pro 5.1 again. it boots slow (I mean chime sound comes late, it was short before).

I changed the rams to Micron MT36JSF2G72PZ-1G6E1FE 16 gb stick Slots 1/2/5/6
Cpu to X5675.

@tsialex helped me out about my processor tray changing process and bootrom configuration. Thanks Alex.

And now after I changed my cpus I can not dump rom to check if I have hardware panics on NVRAM. there should be a problem. The MacOS freezes sometime when I am using it.
You should open a thread for your problem, please do it since this is a thread exclusive for MP5.1 BootROM and related discussion.

People, for the love of Woz, this is not a catch anything thread nor a diagnostic one.

Let's stick to the main topic: MP5,1 BootROM.

The more RAM you have, the more time need to run the self test. Therefore, the chime will come later.

If system freeze only happen after hardware change, then the first thing to do is put the old hardware back in. Only make one change at a time. Otherwise you can't identify which hardware causing the issue.

Anyway, I believe this is hardware related, but not BootROM related.

for those worrying about having to download a full installer for the 141 10.14.4 BootROM

I realised you dont have to download the full installer to get 141 from 10.14.4, after updating to 10.14.4, you can just reboot into the recovery partition and apply it that way :) (the shut down button in the installer wont work, so after clicking on it, click shut down from the menu bar)

THANK YOU!! I have been locked out from getting bootRom because of my metal card, but not officially supported ( so dumb ). Doing this worked for me. 5,1 w3 with sapphire rx560 now on 141 rom.

So now I have nvme boot support right?

yep you do, NVMe boot support has been implemented since 140 :)

(as a side note, I think the issue you have is due to a bug with the Mojave installer, not correctly detecting metal support when its launched in Mojave itself, im guessing apple primarily designed the metal detection method for 10.13.6)

For some reason, the firmware is not updated from 140 to 141. Nothing happens when I hold down the button and does not update the firmware.
What could be the problem?
My OSX 10.14.3 My system as Signature....
Thank!

I downloaded the full installer, prints it turn off to upgrade to Firmware, but nothing. I'm not doing it for the first time, but it's not working now.

I had to wait longer keeping the power button pressed until it started flashing.

Did an update to 10.14.4 through Software Update- BootROM still at 140.0.0.0.

Downloaded full installer. Ran full installer, clicked on Shut Down.

After MacPro 5,1 shut down, pressed and held power button, watched light come on, kept holding power button until long beep stopped, then let go.

Watched my CD/DVD tray eject (this is usually a sign it worked.) Black screen due to RX580, no EFI card installed. CD/DVD tray eventually closed, machine rebooted.

After boot, machine loaded OS normally, BootROM confirmed as updated to 141.0.0.0. Whew!

141.0.0.0 firmware update done here to.
strange no firmware progress bar was visible, running EFI Flashed GTX680.
I'm used to see also a firmware flashing progress bar, not visible on my 4,1 this time for me..
Anybody else here experiencing same result ?

first i've done normal update to 10.14.4 using software update.
Then downloaded latest Mojave installer App, and ran software update with starting Mojave installer App.

Flashing went fine like normal, but only no progress bar visible like i'm used to see..

I haven't upgraded to 10.14.4 yet. I'll try that too.

I haven't read through the entire thread but the first post suggests that 142.0.0.0.0 is the current version but it has issues. Has 142.0.0.0.0 been pulled? Is the latest version 142.0.0.0.0 or 141.0.0.0.0?

My cMP 5,1 was ground zero (the first one) for the bricked condition caused by firmware 142.0.0.0.0.

I wrote a detailed bug report describing the conditions (CPU installed) that caused it to be non-bootable. Apple reviewed the bug report but didn't leave me any feedback on it's status. Since they regressed the firmware version in the release-to-public build, they obviously became aware and corrected the problem as it were.

I changed my logic board which turned out to be a 45 minute recovery of my cMP. This is/was not a total surprise since I've been testing every beta firmware available for the cMP 5,1. I was prepared for the occurrence so it was a quick fix. A CPU swap would also allow me to keep the v142 firmware, or flash the 141.0.0.0.0 firmware into that particular logic board for a workable condition as well.

As it turns out, 142.0.0.0.0 doesn't totally brick your machine, it simply makes it incompatible with certain CPU's (already listed in the title).

Unless you are testing firmwares, this should never happen to you.

141.0.0.0.0 is the current public firmware for the cMP 5,1 system.

I had the same problem. But when I created a bootable USB Stick with 10.14.4 full installer and started the installer from that stick I finally succeeded in updating to 141.0.0.0.0

Hmm, I'm still on 10.13.6, Build (17G6029) because of my GTX 1080. I had absolutely zero issues installing
Boot ROM Version: 141.0.0.0.0 using the full 10.14.4 full installer. BTW, I'm formatted AFPS.

No problem.

Unfortunately, the firmware is not upgraded to 141.0.0.0 with a USB installer. I just don't understand. Does Vega 64 work without Bootscren? I Probably with GT120. Same. Not Work.

Since MP51.0089.B00 to 138.0.0.0.0 upgrade, when started the METAL requirement, efiflasher don't have a progress bar anymore.

Last firmware upgrade to have a progress bar is MP51.0089.B00.

Most of the METAL GPUs for Mojave are GOP GPUs and don't have pre-boot environment with a MP5,1 and show nothing before the drivers are loaded, so Apple removed the progress bar.
