@tsialex

Nice to see the "cleaning/soldering process". Can not stop looking at the photos. We/all else post to few photos. It is very nice to see a clean /"out of the box" clean cMP. Just; thanks!

I post a lot of photos, sorry. =)

I try to show how I did it, errors included, so it's a little easier to do the same if someone need. People usually just show the before and after, it's easier if you show the process.

A picture is worth a 1000 words. A 1000 words without any pictures leads to a lot of confusion.

Windows 7 latest September updates causes BSOD on boot in Mac Pro 5,1 with 138.0.0.0 bootrom :(

I had to enter safe mode twice to revert them, then all back to normal.

UEFI or BootCamp install? I installed BootCamp/Windows 7 to a SATA hard disk yesterday with my Mac Pro, updated with May 2016 Hotfix rollup and then Windows Update, didn't had BSODs.

I advise not to use any Chinese chip programmer or test clip. I tried 2 different ones (EZP2013 and Coright SkyPro) trying to program a 93 series EEPROM and they didn't work. One of them actually erased the chip when I was trying to read it and I had to reconstruct the code referencing a dump from another. The setup that worked really well for me with in-circuit programming is a Revelprog-IS (made in Poland) with genuine Pomona 5250 clip. The cheap Chinese one I had didn't even want to stay on the chip. I had to power the board with an external power supply. The Revelprog-IS manual gives some tips. Make sure the programing voltage is set to the same voltage as the chip is receiving on the board, such as 5v.

I have the full line of Needhams programmers (20/30/31) but to flash ICSP I had to resort to PicKit2 or ch341a. I bought a real Pomona model 5250 from Digikey in July and have two others, even the black chinese one worked with the ch341a + flashrom. The only problem is the 1MHz, 50 times slower than the Mac Pro. For someone just repairing his Mac Pro, it's fine, but for me testing multiple BootROMs, it's hell. I'm looking at TL866II Plus, I can borrow one from a friend to test if it's acceptable. @handheldgames offered me his BusPirate too, runs at 8MHz.

I'll look at Revelprog-IS.

Bootcamp. UEFI is not possible for Windows 7. Sadly the 08.2018 updates were also causing BSOD. 07.2018 worked fine.

Sometimes it crashes so hard that even safe mode doesn't start - it's stuck on loading and nothing moves on. You have to reimage whole drive from VHD image :(

It was happening in the past - I'm using the same installation since 2011 with all updates! In case of failure I'm always keeping the VHD images.

Stopped the full download and went to the RecoveryHDMeta.pkg, to know about the BootROM.

I don't think anything changed, so, yeah.

So it doesn't look like apple were going to give the MP 4.1 5.1 NVMe boot if this is the same firmware for Mojave GM candidate release. the only hope is GM final has a surprise in a firmware update.

I should have posted earlier but I was running some tests. Yeah, I got the download a few hours ago from the developer portal and it's the same firmware.

Safari tabs open slower for me in this build btw...

I don't expect anything further from Apple. We already have community supported NVMe that works well, so no great disappoint with that. I'm actually more comfortable prepping my bootrom manually and flashing with RomTool. I know the rom gets cleaned up properly that way. Also no blind flashing... ;)

Thanks. I've never delved into GitHub really, mainly because when I look at a page, it seems to be an overwhelming mess of stuff on the screen that I'm not sure if I'm supposed to download, copy, etc. I suppose I should eventually familiarize myself. Until then, is the easiest method here to just copy and paste the script manually? Or is there a download link to get that script and anything else I need? I realize this is now OT for the thread, but just thought I'd start trying to unglazed my eyes when looking at GitHub... :)
