That Syba switch card looks like a good candidate to test.

One thing for sure, prices of MP51 will not continue to decrease as they have been before Mojave improvements. ;)

I agree. At least until the MP 7,1 comes out next year, unless it doesn’t have PCIe slots.

A lot of people is asking how to get 140.0.0.0.0. It's not easy to the uninitiated but is doable.

The risk of bricking your Mac Pro is all yours.

1) Download the macOSUpd10.14.3.RecoveryHDUpdate.pkg from Apple SUCatalog (in the future, search the SUCatalog for the most recent RecoveryUpdate) link updated to 10.14.3
2) Open macOSUpd10.14.3.RecoveryHDUpdate.pkg with Pacifist and extract the RecoveryHDMeta.dmg
3) Open RecoveryHDMeta.dmg with Pacifist, go to the Firmware folder and extract it to your desktop.
4) Replace the Firmware folder of your Mojave installer with the one you saved on your desktop.
5) Open the Mojave installer, will ask you to upgrade the firmware.

those wanting to proceed with the update not to switch off their macs on a blank black or white screen after they power on for the firmware update as they can't tell whether the firmware is being updated. If they think their cMP is stuck and forcefully power off, they can brick their cMPs.

3) Open RecoveryHDMeta.dmg with Pacifist, go to the Firmware folder and extract it to your desktop.

5) Open the Mojave installer, will ask you to upgrade the firmware.

Please don't ask more about this, if you still can't get updated to 140.0.0.0.0 with this instructions, this BootROM is not for you yet.

It’s actually easier than that. Just extract the DMG from the Recovery HD package under Resources with Pacifist and then open it. Then open the base system dmg. Then open the Install macOS Mojave Beta app contained in that.

I doubt cMP users will create any amount of demand that would affect the market. Macs in general are a small percentage of the market. cMPs are a small percentage of total Macs. A small percentage of cMP users will apply the update, at least right away. A small percentage of those will go out and buy a new NVMe drive.

You are right on the percentages, however, seeing that NVMe support will be added through an update by Apple, more and more users will consider upgrading as it is less riskier to do so. My outlook was based on what I saw searching ebay extensively over the last couple of months for cMPs, parts and upgrades. I don't speculate.

An example - mac efi cards' prices went up when cMP users started reporting problems with Apple's recommended non-mac efi enabled GPU cards and their lack of boot screens / filevault support. Same thing with MVC, he raised his nvidia flashing prices for the 780, was $95 now $105. Regardless of how minute the increase is, it's an increase.

Yep, you could do that too.

Yeah, but those parts you are referencing are unique to cMPs. NVMe drives are not.

I doubt that NVMe spot price will have any change with MP51 official NVMe support, not enough Mac Pros to do this, but HighPoint SSD7101A prices could get higher again - was $275 before, now is $400.

You are absolutely right. I highly recommend adding a disclaimer in there and a warning for those wanting to proceed with the update not to switch off their macs on a blank black or white screen after they power on for the firmware update as they can't tell whether the firmware is being updated. If they think their cMP is stuck and forcefully power off, they can brick their cMPs.

My StarTech x4 PCI Express to M.2PCIeSSD adaptor works fine in slot 4 of my cMP. It was only 32 euro in the Netherlands

With 39 euros you can buy Aqua Computer kryoM2. For just 7 euros more you get a huge heatsink and a better designed card.

Ok, thx for the correction, but let's be honest, it's not a 2.0 slots PCIe card. The backplate screws and the fans are out/over of the 2.0 slot dimensions and you can't have a full height PCIe card next to it.

Agree, the PULSE won't completely block slot 2. But it may infringe slot 2.

Anyway, anyone know if the Highpoint 7101A is thin enough to install in slot 2 with a PULSE RX580 in slot 1?

No, it’s not, you have to use a spacer or the RX-580 fan will colide with the backside of SSD7101A.

It’s better to invert the cards.

Yes I know...

Put HighPoint in Slot 1, RX580 in Slot 2.

You can FORCE it the other way with removing screws and making spacers to push them apart, but that’s not an idea solution for me. Just move them...

Exactly correct!

A friend put 4 spacers with lots of glue - then I asked him why he didn’t just inverted the cards. Imagine his face when he got it…

This is pretty much how I do it as well.

1) Download the macOSUpd10.14.1.RecoveryHDUpdate.pkg (thanks MisterAndrew PM me the link. Just learnt how to search the SUCatalog. Will do it myself next time. Thanks tsialex posted the SUCatalog link, and of course, share all his findings)
Download this.png

2) Right click the file, choose "The Unarchiver.app to unzip it.
Screenshot 2018-10-09 at 16.28.34.png

3) Inside the "macOSUpd10.14.1.RecoveryHDUpdate" folder, double click RecoveryHDMeta.dmg to mount it
Unzip it.png

4) Then double click BaseSystem.dmg to mount it.
Mount this.png

5) Double click this "install macOS Mojave Beta.app" to trigger the firmware update.
Run this.png

6) Then just the usual stuff. Follow the on screen instruction, click shut down, wait 10s, press and hold power button until the long beep, release power button and wait for auto reboot. Anyway, as expected, this can be done with just the RX580, no Mac EFI GPU is required.

Because he want to utilise all 4 slots :D

Forget that, you will have to put so much force to separate both cards that you will damage or the HighPoint or the slot in the long run.

This is great news, I am enjoying NVMe boot support for some time and will wait for the public release. But this is awesome for the people that where scared to do the NVMe inject.

The to-do list for things we want from Apple is getting smaller.

Then sure I prefer to only use 3 slots :p (or even 2, if the PULXR 580 infringe slot 4 as well. But I bet the extra space below slot 2 now let the RX580 drop for a mm or two, which provide extra clearance for slot 4. Anyway, we can always use some thin card like the USB 3.0 card in slot 4 with this config).

Yep, I just don't like to bent a card that is almost the price of the Mac Pro. It's insane to risk a $400+ card.

This is great news, but it almost gives me suspicions that something went awry with the MP7,1 project (might have to do with Intel's roadmap worries), and they're keeping the Pros happy by patching up the 5,1 for the time being. But them updating the BootROM of the 5,1 several times after Schiller apologized for the 6,1 makes it almost seem like Apple has begun to give a damn about Pros again. I guess we will see if that pans out.

I don't know anything about MP7,1 schedule, but Cupertino is updating the MP6,1 firmware too, 3 updates since 10.13.5.
