I've got my name down on a new flat for when I move down to London shortly, so here's a quick pic of what it looks like now with the owners stuff in it.

There are places in midwest like that you can get. Ive seen a lot in Kansas, older houses with some land for like 12-15K.

Haha that looks a lot like my best friends family room, only not as long and different furniture and flooring, but like the cabinetry and fireplace... its so similar its wierd. And their house isn't a cookie cutter house.

Is that a samsung LCD tv?

Midwest, baby, midwest. You won;t be living in a large town, you won;t be in a McMansion, but you'll live well in the farm lands.

I laugh when people whine and piss about houses in America. You can live in the best areas for schools at the cheapest prices possible.... you just have to be brave enough to move there and leave behind the indolent and annoying luxuries of the city.

My whole cost to live yearly (food, tax, car insurance, gas, utilities, etc) is about $6500. Imagine that. And that gets a lot of everything, too. Property tax is only $250/year.
