Magellan Roadmate Announcement!!!

I noticed this on the Magellan website. It appears they will shortly have a Western and Eastern United States version of the iPhone app. I'm assuming that they will be very competitive (or less) with the $49.99 TomTom price for their United States version.

While it is awesome that they are creating lower cost versions I think an entire US however no canada version would be the optimal choice.

I think everyone will appreciate close up photos of the:

1. Adjustment block
2. Pin connector
3. Ball socket at the back

So we can get a better idea of how this will fit into our respective iPhone + cases as well as how it will fit alongside our current vehicles.

I agree with Shane...more eyes are better when it comes to documentation.

For my own use, I'm making do with an existing PND manual. There are a few models that come pretty close in features, and it's already answered a few questions for me.

Can you control music from within the Magellan app?

1. The Magellan App pauses the music when directions are spoken. This feature is an advantage for Audio Books and Podcast users.
2. Absolutely! There is a shortcut key where it takes you to your iPod directly without exiting the App.
3. I am sorry, but due the iPhone capabilities, the doubletap home feature exits the App. However, it will still save your current route.

Navigon is aggressively releasing updates that are adding features that are going beyond what Magellan currently does.

Can you get a list of free future upgrades to this program?

I need to know Magellan will not fall behind.

To be honest I am considering buying Navigon at the reduced price.

Please talk me out of it and give me hope that Magellan's future will be brighter.

Good stuff! I like progress. It looks like the January 5th, 2010 release date from Amazon is right on. Thanks again for keeping us in the loop Maggie.

I wonder what will be quicker (to receive the Car Kit), keeping my Amazon order in place...or cancelling and ordering through Magellan directly. HMMmmm...decisions...decisions.

Yup, and it wasn't a good outcome. Speed accuracy is still off by a HUGE margin, sometimes even by half.

The Magellan application is on Sale for $59.99 right now for those of you who haven't purchased yet!

Using the same iphone holder (attached to car vents), both TomTom and Navigon have no problems with GPS lock and speed accuracy.

The Magellan app looks cool but until its "functional" I will stick with Navigon.
