Wow Maggie, great thread!!

I am a satisfied Navigon customer (former Garmin). Had I seen your particularly good attention to the community at MacRumors, it would have made my decision harder ... fixed cost Traffic was my final deciding factor - since no guarantee how M or TT will handle ... and if I may vote for your loyal customer base, keep step w/ the competition on this one and you will make a lot of M iPhone customers happy ... and maybe win another : )

Excellent support of your customers (and curious non-customers).

Maggie,

please get them to put a qwerty keyboard instead of the straight line alphabet ....... the whole world is on qwerty (ok not the whole world but you get my point) and like I said above KEEP IT EASY, and I find myself with the abcdefghijklmnopqr etc keyboard i have to hunt and peck, it's kind of a PITA...

Maggie,

In all honesty, the ULTIMATE additions to this app would be Google Local Search and Live Traffic. Garmin has recently launched a service called Garmin "nüLink" which includes Google Local Search and Traffic. Seems like a pretty near service....*cough* Magellan are you listening? *cough* LOL ;)

Try turning your phone sideways and it turns into a qwerty key board :)

The Magellan app page has been changed and has added a $20 dollars off the car Kit offer. Unfortunately it states between 12/4 to 12/8.

Is this a typo? I'm sure Magellan doesn't want early adopters of their program to be left out on this deal?????? :(

Looks like the app page has been changed to Purchase the app before 12/8.

Thanks :)

I'm not sure if this has been asked/answered:

We know what Amazon's car kit price will be.

What will Magellan's normal price be on their web site?

This is correct, I just confirmed it. VERY cool. :p

I believe $129.99 is Magellan's MSRP on this item. Amazon has the first crack at selling it to the public (other than directly through Magellan), but unfortunately their price will be full book. If you pre-order the kit through Amazon, they will have it shipped to you...and at your door ON the release date which I think is really cool.

Oh well, I am excited either way....especially considering the $20 off special offer. Thanks Maggie for relaying our thoughts, input and concerns. :D

Hi andersonGPS,

Thank you so much! We try to reach our customers directly, so it saves them hassle of having to search for a telephone, being on hold, and finally talking to someone. ;)

Thank you,
Maggie

Hi ShaneXman,

We are currently working on providing Live Traffic, but as of right now, we do not know when it will be available. And as far as Google Local Search, it is most unlikely in the future, but that is not for certain.

Thank you,
Maggie

Hi chstr,

Thank you for visiting! However, we are not giving anymore free promos until our next contest! Please check back later!

Hey Maggie I was wondering if you could give us some more info on the car kit?

1) what type of gps chip/reciever does the kit use?
2) does it come with adhesive disks so we can mount it on a dash board?

Thanks for all of your help, I will be posting a review later on after all of my tests.

Maggie,

Can you clarify what those of us who have pre-ordered the car kit on Amazon may get if we purchase the Magellan application?

So I purchased Magellan GPS last night and used it this morning on my morning commute to work. The experience was great and look forwarding to the new updates.

I was happy to see that it took me the normal way I would go to work unlike TomTom that tries to make me go the extra mile.

Keep up the good work Magellan.

If anyone has questions about comparison with TomTom and Navigon I can give you insight since I have purchased them all.

Does anyone know if the Magellan app has a locate button like the standalone units? The standalone tell you your current town, state, zip code and what street is in front/ behind you. Also, a screen shot of this function would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I sure hope all updates remain *free*, and the upcoming live traffic addition will either be a one time nominal fee, or *free* as well. The :apple: iPhone/App Store world is a unique animal, in that you are paying for software, where in most cases/apps...the updates are *free*, and this only helps reinforce and improve the app for the end user (future & present). By providing these updates, Magellan would only be reinforcing their customer base, who (in this case) influences the decisions others make by means of App Store reviews and input on such discussion boards as Mac Rumors. This will only equate to more sales and happier customers. :D

Maggie...please push for *free* updates, we know you're on our side. LOL ;)

The problem is Magellan has to pay to license map updates. There's no way these companies will continue to give away free map updates for the lifetime of the product. That is just a stupid business move. The days of lifetime free updates are slowly ending on the App Store. Developers have already realized that you can not continue to support these products forever. In the end, the App Stores upgrade policies will be no different than any other software.

Point taken, but that should get VERY interesting with the launch of Google Maps Navigation which is 100% *free*, and offers a limitless number of possibilities. I think once the updates/additional $ becomes to common place, and also depending on how much the updates are...people might start switching over to such devices or applications such as the Google Maps Navigation. Unfortunately, this puts the navigation companies at a disadvantage, but that's a free market society for you and they will be forced to adjust accordingly.

Might I suggest offering *free* updates for life, and letting future end users/customers front the costs for the map/software updates? We supported this current map version, so individuals hopping on-board down stream will front the bill for future map/software updates...and so on. It will be one big happy cycle.

Is Google navigation on the iPhone yet? What is the launch date?

Is Google navigation on the iPhone yet? What is the launch date?

Negative. Google Maps Navigation is only available on the "Droid" phones right now, but according to Google...they are working closely with Apple to "hopefully" introduce it to the iPhone platform. We shall see though. It should be interesting to see how this all unfolds.

I just know I am thankful for my Magellan at the time being. :D

Hi Davoo,

Yes, the App has a feature called "Current Location"
Steps from the map screen:
  • OneTouch
  • Current Location

I have attached a screenshot below:
