Maggie,
I bought this app after doing my research and determined that Magellan and Navigon were the top two company's. Unfortunately Navigon abandoned the American market and who knows if they will do it again. So it made the Magellan choice easy.
I have nothing but good to say about Magellan.
I do have a Feedback/Wish list:
Please make the arrows for next turn and associated text bigger.
No AAA ratings support please add.
No speed adjust for simulation of route please add.
Small Back/Map button hard to see due to color.
Add the option to auto switch information posted on the lower left of screen Speed/Miles/Time/Direction/Elevation/Time Left/Distance. Bigger Text option
Add more voices and improve current ones.
On screen POI's are translucent and hard to see and difficult to understand what they are at times (what are the balloon looking things?). Please add option to touch POI's on screenfor more info.
Allow speed Limit signs to be shown all the time.
Free traffic when it becomes available
Allow the user to change the Arrow to a Car or Pedestrian.
Allow small size map/feature updates versus a complete download 1.36G
Please add option to avoid/detour a road.
Add Red light camera warning.
Add the option to play Pod casts on the Ipod player they are not listed.
If you need a Beta tester for the car kit let me know.
Or if you have any store discount codes for the kit.
Thanks for being on the Forum.
Like I stated on my I-Tunes review Magellan has Great Customer Support.
You being here makes my case.
Thanks,
Rad
Hi Maggie,
Can you give a high level overview of how the iPhone and the Car Kit work together?
For instance, if I were to buy the Car Kit, would Google Maps benefit from the Car Kit's GPS chip in the same way that the Magellan Nav App benefits?
If so then curious about how that all works.
Thanks.
maggie did you get my contest anwsers because my post on this thread disappeared
Maggie,
It looks like the web link you have for the web site on your first post is having problems today.
This one seems to be working OK.
http://www.magellangps.com/iphone/iphoneapp.asp
Looks like Amazon has the car kit listed for $129 but the ship date has slipped to Jan 5?
If your company needs a Beta tester for the car kit I have one of the original Ipod touch's 1st gen and a 3gs I-phone.
Jape & Lemonademaker!!!
They were each randomly selected to win a Magellan App!
On behalf of everyone at Magellan, I would like to thank all the participants. We had a large number of interest, but unfortunately were only able to only select two winners at the time. However, please check back with us again because there will be more contests for MacRumors!!!
Thank you once again,
Maggie
Thanks, Maggie. What were the correct answers?
Maggie,
Let me start off by saying that Magellan has done a fantastic job with this app, especially considering we are still on "Version: 1.0". This leaves me VERY hopeful and excited that this already great app will get even better, especially with the user feedback and suggestions posted here. Overall, this is a good app, with the potential to be a GREAT app! Nice job Magellan, keep up the good work. The user interface and overall structure is exceptionally laid out and aesthetically pleasing. However, this app most definitely does not go without its faults, but at this present time I will not penalize Magellan for issues that I believe/hope will be resolved.
Here are my qualms, which I would LOVE for you to pass on and take into consideration for future updates
1) TRAFFIC! Not much else to be said here, but I think traffic integration is a must....preferably free. However, if it will be a charge, make it a one-time charge (not monthly/yearly).
2) All traditional navigation POI databases leave something to be desired, and hopefully Magellan doesn't overlook this very blatant weakness. It would definitely behoove them to integrate Google's Local Search, which allows users to enter simple search terms (as they would in Google or Google Maps). This would also be a step in the right direction to fend off the attack of the FREE "Google Maps Navigation" that has reared its ugly head. It appears that Navigon will be incorporating this feature, so Id suggest Magellan do the same.
3) When attempting to use an address from my Contacts, I am often prompted with a message that states No useable address found. This is bothersome because if I type the address in manually, it uses it just fine. Id have to imagine this is a software issue, and should be resolved fairly quickly and easily.
4) The TTS feature could also be more expansive. Often times it wont say the street name, but rather make a general statement or direction.
5) The speed is VERY inaccurate, and I dont believe its even been close to being correct since I got it. It jumps around constantly, and never locks onto my exact speed.
6) When playing music while navigating, the audio interruptions are quite abrupt and choppy. A fade out/in would be nice, and the music should pause for the duration of any given direction rather than resuming the music only to cut off the directional statement.
7) The speed limit notification sign should be displayed at all times, not just when you are speeding (even if speeding notifications are turned off).
8) I have always used Garmin in the past, and have appreciated its repetitive nature with regards to keeping you on track. The Magellan seems to keep quiet while on long freeway stints, whereas the Garmin would confirm (verbally) that you should stay on the appropriate freeway. More frequent directions (at interchanges, etc.) would be a welcome change.
9) You cant zoom out very far when in 3D+ mode. If you want to explore the map, you have to change it to 2D to zoom out to a useable/explorable distance.
10) Garmin also has an "Information Page" of sorts, which displays a number of trip related items (i.e. current speed, top speed, current trip distance, overall distance, duration of trip, etc.), which I often miss looking at on one screen.
11) Although the route calculations are fairly quick outdoors, it can take some time to get a satellite lock while indoors, around building, trees, etc. Why cant triangulation (like Google Maps Navigation be utilized to obtain a rough location lock, which would enable quicker overall functionality.
The iPhone is constantly (or almost constantly) connected to the internet, so why not take full advantage of it?!
...and most importantly, PLEASE keep all future updates FREE. We (the Magellan customers) vested a good amount of money into this app, and we would love to continue using your products and providing useful feedback for future product development, but there's definitely a point of diminishing returns...where products such as Google Map/Google Maps Navigation will begin to suffice. I also do not want to regret going the Magellan route, when there were definitely other viable options out there who have already stated all future updates will be FREE.
Thanks for listening. Cheers!
Sincerely,
Shane![]()

proof of purchase hmmm do u want to see it running on my iphone? what proof are you requiring
Well I think proof of purchase could be the email recipt sent by iTunes, or when you register you have to input the serial number of the product ( which is displayed in the app) so I am assuming that the serial number could suffice.
Correct me if I am wrong Maggie.
Maggie,
Do you have any information on when the car kit will be available for sales in Australia and its pricing?
Maggie,
The Premium Car Kit has been delayed!?!?I pre-ordered this kit on Amazon, and the release date was listed as December 11, 2009. However, I recently received an email from Amazon stating that the release date has been postponed to January 5, 2010? What's the deal?
Please let me know. Any and all information you have on this would be greatly appreciated. I am eagerly waiting on the release of this product, as I have already purchased the Magellan RoadMate iPhone app. Thanks!

Additionally, regarding your post....
I would be more than happy to cancel my order on Amazon, and order the car kit directly through Magellan. At this point, I believe I am a Magellan supporter...willing to stick by and wait patiently for the app updates/fixes.
I would REALLY appreciate it if you could PM me regarding the "exceptions" you speak of, and let me know how to go about getting the $20 coupon code. Thanks a ton for you help and feedback thus far.![]()
Maggie,
Tried to register my app on you site and I can't seem to find the option for roadmate 2010 in the list of a 40+ options...SITE QUOTE: "*Which Magellan product did you purchase?" roadmate 2010 is not on the list.....
what to do....
thanks

It is listed as the Magellan Roadmate App for iPhone-US & Canada
Hi ShaneXman,
As of right now, we are patiently waiting on Apple to approve the Car Kit. We wish we could speed up the process, but as of right now, it is out of our hands. Sorry!
In addition, please do not cancel your order on Amazon. Customers who have already pre-ordered the Car Kit will definitely get something! Just register at www.magellangps.com. We have not forgotten about you!
Thank You,
Maggie
