I noticed that happen with my iPhone 12PM that I tried charging via magsafe last night... and at 60-70ish%... while it charges fast, but it was extreme hot... Did you still have the same problem with a different adapter... and how many wattage was the first adapter you tried comparing to the next one?
I ended up giving it away. I only used it with the 20w adapter. The 18w that came with my iPad Pro didn't seem to be that much cooler.

I probably planning on return all mines since I was using mines with the 90W RavPower, and the first one was extreme uncomfortable hot, but I swap with another one, that one seems alittle cooler... I would thought the magsafe will only pull the wattage that it is assigned, but I guess the coils got extreme hot from the high wattage brick?... I'm going try the 61W Ravpower, and see if issues occurs again on both of the pucks.

This sucks... while I like the idea of Magsafe, but I find it not safe if you're planning to leave it overnight... I wonder if this is the same issue with the Airpower...

Then your charger sucks. This has never happened to me. Magsafe is still pretty stupid.
So you're saying Samsung, Mophie, and Anker all suck at making Qi chargers?

What a stupid comment. It's a physics issue. You can't just make a gigantic coil that encompasses the entire mat to have 100% coverage. That's not how Qi charging works.

"This never happened to me" is not a valid argument.

I loved mine but I had to return it. I was using the Apple 20 Watt adapter as recommended but my phone just got to hot. I love the design and concept and loved the simplicity of it but I felt it was trade off because of the heat.

I just checked my MagSafe and sure enough, it has the yellow discoloration.

Retuning it until they fix the issue.

C’mon Apple, it’s a one week old accessory!

Okay so I’ve only had my phone since Friday but I’ve charged it twice using the Magsafe charger. It seems to charge very quickly as it only takes 30 minutes to charge from 60% to 100% but even leaving the phone on the charger for two hours after reaching 100%, I have found that both the magsafe charger and phone are only slightly warm. No ring mark on the back of my silicon case as yet although I probably need to test a bit more and I haven’t tried the leather cases yet.
I think that this should be how it operates as the magsafe charger should only trickle charge once a phone reaches 100% charge and should not get hot.

Have you (well does anyone know) if the marks left on cases are mainly down to heat, the MagSafe charger getting hot? Or repeated contact causing wear? Maybe a combination of both.

The example you show is clearly down to heat but in that case it looks as if MagSafe got far too hot as there’s what appears to be discolouration on the MagSafe charger too. To me that can’t be right and has got to be a defective until.

It’s not down to the heat as my MagSafe seems to run quite cool. But my Baltic blue leather case definitely now has an imprint of a ring on the back

OK, so it’s not a discolouration/mark, it’s a compression/indent in the leather?

No I didn't describe it that well. it is discolouration and definitely not an indent. Disappointing but no surprise I guess as we are all aware that this is well documented.

Thank for that. Interesting, if it’s not heat I wonder what’s causing that? Any ideas? I also have the Baltic Blue leather case and have been tempted by the MagSafe charger.

i did wonder if it’s a combination of the magnets in the phone, case and MagSafe charger putting pressure on the case itself but that’s just a wild guess.
Apparently, the Apple wallet leaves an imprint on the back of the leather case after a few day's use as well so its definitely not a heating issue.
To be honest as the back off the case patina's and darkens, it will probably be less noticeable.
But as a fun experiment, I have ordered one of these and I am going to fit it on the other side of the charger so that it is in between the case and charger. if the phone still charges, the skin should provide protection for the case

That does sound a bit strange. I wonder if it could possibly be a reaction between the aluminium on the charger and the leather/dye/wax on the case? Although I thought that the plastic on the charger is very slightly thicker than the aluminium ring so that the ring doesn’t quite touch the case. But I could be wrong.

I haven’t heard of the wallet marking the leather case. Do you know if it’s the mark left is also a ring?

As an experiment a very thin piece of plastic could be inserted between the charger and case. Then see if that makes a difference.

I’m now so curious that I think I’ll buy a MagSafe charger and have a play.

I dont know if the wallet creates a ring but a few guys on reddit have reported that the wallet marks the case.

The Spigen MagFit is interesting as it doesn't look at if the phone touches the aluminium ring

It has to touch the ring in order to charge. The Spigen product linked is nothing more than a weighted base for the MagSafe charger.

Why does it have to physically touch the case in order to change? If you use a thin non-MagSafe case MagSafe will still charge.

Are you saying that putting a thin piece of paper or similar between the MagSafe charger and a MagSafe case will mean it won’t charge?

Pro tip: Cord charges faster. Doesn’t discolor like that. Cheaper.
Like you post. Think the same way.

The only place I’m going to use magSafe is in my car. I have a wireless CarPlay.

P.S. Apple cables discolors over time :) Same cheap .... for the premium price.
