Thank you.
- I suspect the portal wireless-charge back you purchased is using PD to charge and with such a slim device heat will disappate quite quickly(?) as little room for it to spread out so to speak. The iPhone 4/4s/5/5S would all get warm very quickly when gaming (even the 3GS would) over WiFi (cpu+imbedded gpu+game+wifi … mobile connections being consistent).

Do you feel the same heat when charging the iPhone 12 mini from very low charge level to say 80%?
Yeah, the mini itself does not have the same heat so it’s definitely the back of this pack thats dissipating.
The other thing I noticed is it wouldn’t charge past 80% even though all icons showed it was. Something weird about that as I took it off and it charged fine with my main charger. I’ll have to test it a bit more. It’s not exactly a deal breaker if I can get it to 80% every time. Seems like it might be able to do that 3 times and getting it quickly off the phone after it does it’s job to give enough charge for the rest of the day is the best scenario anyways.

power: Qi 5000mAh (12W) & USB-C (20W)

I have iPhone 12 mini.
connection is very strong, also ships with 4 (2 each for each powerbank I bought, 2)
very small MagSafe official animation occurs.

initial charging unit gets slightly warm, not uncomfortable to the touch and I was indoors on a 27 celcius day and 35Celcius in my unit no AC on tuesday. Very happy with the purchase. I got 2.3 charges from one. Had to charge out of the box.

ONly been able to use it a few times so far but noticed I cant get it to charge past 80%. That's not a deal breaker since I only need it for emergencies and can still charge again to 80% before a recharge of it. Are you seeing a full 100% charge with yours?

I think you're right ... I've not seen the portable magsafe-like charger charge past 80%. I'll do a test tonight and edit this post.

Update:

I started charging at 22% battery life on my iPhone 12 mini at roughly 10:03PM EST Friday night. Still is but grey 24hr clock it’s 12:34 AM EST Saturday and I’m still stuck at 54% - I’ve only glanced at the phone to unlock to check battery percentage and about 5mins iMessage back n force with my son.
12 mini is connected to LTE & home 5ghz wifi but no apps streaming or looking up gps location data or approximating it. The portable charger has two white LEDs left but the iPhone was at 54% at 3 leds/4 so wondering if this charger was actually fully charged from early yesterday afternoon sitting on night table in a cool room. Btw “cool” temperature for me is 26 Celsius

going to fully drain both tonight and retry from the portable magsafe-like charger again in the morning.

These products are very misleading with their descriptions. Sure it’s capable of faster wireless charging on Android devices, but it maxes out at 7.5w on iPhone Qi charging

I’m getting to wonder if she charging for iPhone over the MagSafe conduit is limited to charging up to 80% there’s been other side of been mentioning this with other products
I am the owner of MagPack, and I can confirm that you can charge over 80%. Ours and everyone else's MagSafe compatible battery packs should allow you to charge over 80% as its just using Qi charging. However that being said, there may be some "features" in iOS in the future that will limit the amount it will charge to try and keep your phone at a consistent charge.

What’s the difference in power between Ankers and Apple’s as don’t understand the terminology, as they seem to use different between them. Anyone know what both are in same mAH or Wh etc?

I have the Anker one and it’s decent, can be magnetically attached but also use a small cable to charge faster for convenience, not sure if can with Apple. I know it sounds counter productive, but it means it sticks to back so can still carry iPhone, but get a faster charge if needed.

I’m still looking for a 3cm one, USB-C to lightning for this purpose though, anyone find one?

It seems now Apple's own MagSafe battery pack is in play. I wonder how it will stack up with some of the third party ones. The integration is better for sure, but it does seem a bit low power.
I ordered aliexpress one as this thread mentioned. It was hot while charging. The worst is after 80% then it's cooking my iPhone to dangerous hot & never passed 80%. I will not buy the knockoff brand anymore. Lesson learned!

I got a third party one also and noticed something similar. If my phone was truly low (20% or 30%) it would charge for a while fast and efficient. But similar to you, once the phone got to 70%+ it just got hot and didn’t add any more percentage or took forever to add even 1%.

I stopped using it for that reason. If Apples solution keeps heat in check and better manages when to turn on and off by itself, I can see myself using that again.

I will probably buy one once I see some reviews confirming how it goes.

Like the two of you, I've also experience uncomfortable heat (not so bad as @ray6088 has been experiencing). I'd report that to consumer governing body to be honest to prevent further sales before someone is REALLY hurt badly.

the charger that I purchase and received will charge my 12 mini ... but if I'm using it even just to scroll through apps nothing launched, no sound, no data streaming, no movies, no hotspot, etc .. then the MagSafe-like chargers I have will not charge the iphone. Seems like power pass-through only.

I don't want all my Apple accessories in WHITE. Just an eye-sore.

Anyone find a USB-C to lightning cable that’s really short (in UK) ? I’m talking less than 10cm. I want the option with the Anker magnetic battery to attach but charge via cable for speed.

Thanks

Does anyone have the Belkin BOOST↑CHARGE™
Magnetic Wireless Power Bank 2.5K?

https://www.belkin.com/au/p/BPD002btWH/

Half the price of the apple one.

2500 mAh at that price? Seems like just paying for the brand in terms of warranty support. Still unsure why the big name brands are designing these to be so bulky when it’s not necessary. Bulk for drop protection? Use better materials for impact resistance.

Interesting to see how this does.

Well I haven't purchased your product so I cannot make a statement about that. Good to know yours does.

The product I purchased will not charge my 12 mini past 80% nor an iPhone 8 Plus past 80%. iOS 13 to current iOS 14.7.1.

I bought the Mophie snap powerbank mini just because I had a half off coupon. At $25, it’s a good deal. But no way I’d buy it for $50 lol. It arrives tomorrow.
Was this the product?

PS: I hope you don't carry your phone like that lol :

I've been looking for one of these (other than Apple) I saw this Belkin one at Target today, It looked small, nothing massive which was nice. But the $40 for just 2.5K was kind of a joke.

I see these other ones on Amazon (Anker price rose again, now $54). Lot of the specs for various 3rd party MagSafe power banks on Amazon may not be correct - or overblown? Or "magnet is not strong enough." This iWalk with digital battery % display, reviews are either great or terrible.

Ugh, I'm at a loss.

I do have this one coming today. Yeah it's a big bigger than I hoped, but thinner than some of these 3rd party MagSafe batteries. If this can hold a charge, not drain the phones battery while shooting videos, taking photos..that alone is a huge benefit.

I'll see what happens, Some of the YouTube reviews were pretty good for the most part. And it's good that the reviewer claimed the battery does NOT block 12 ProMax bottom camera lens...(It may however on Mini's)

If I don't like it...it gets returned.

(I did notice on some of these batteries on Amazon, "REFUND OR REPLACEMENT" is an option. But a few state "REPLACEMENT" is the only option.)

I just received a newsletter from Pitaka regarding an upcoming new product

PItaka already has a magnetic Wi portable charger called MagEZ Juice 2 which will be compatible with the upcoming desk stand charger.

desktop charger:
Chargers MagEZ Juice 2 (chargers iPhone 12/13 presumably)
Chargers AirpPods or similar TWE charging case with magnetic stand to hold it where it needs to be to charge.
also charges Apple Watch - with ad-on.
