I’m getting issues with my gmail, I guess this relates to this problem with iOS18.

When I swipe left to archive viewed email I get a blank space, I then go back to email list the message is still there, I can then swipe the same email left there email is then archived.

Since 18.1 I now randomly get the following problem, I swipe email to archive, seems to archive then what next email appears but Sender is correct but body of email is previously archived email ? This was a problem because I was swiping away email that I hadn’t read (Attached image)

Also the folder list is inconsistent, I randomly see gmail “all mail” randomly see the all mail emails.

Does anyone have any update on this? My brother is still having issues and it's very frustrating. Enough so he may abandon his iPhone for an Android.

Is anybody’s Trash folder auto-deleting old emails after x days? Mine has stopped working and the mail in the Trash has been there for weeks. It is set to delete after 7 days.

I've been experiencing significant delays with received mail actually showing up as a notification ever since apple intelligence was activated.

I’ve found that hasn’t worked since 18.0. Like you, I have mine set for 7 days as well, always have had it that way. Now it seems to have reverted to about 30 days since 18.0 was released.

Well, I've just done myself in!

I've just downloaded 18.2. First issues I have are with mail. I have around 50 unread emails, but the app icon badge is showing 25. Also, every so often I get a server error. Does anyone else have this?

There are many people posting about many variations of email issues since 18.1. For me:

I have had email since 1986. I have my own email on a shared server as well as other email accounts I have used for YEARS including Gmail. I have used an iPhone since a month after first release....

IOS 18 Apple Mail removed the ability to PUSH email accounts other than iCloud, Yahoo and one I forgot. Gmail is NOT one of them. Nor any of MY other emails.

Forever and until last week, I could send my self an email and watch the Mail badge update within 2 minutes if not MUCH sooner. Now, Gmail for example (so we don't start blaming my other email accounts and servers) are FETCH only. There is no drop down option for PUSH any longer for it. And even if PUSH is globally selected, it will only fetch unless iCLoud, Yahoo and that one other. The quickest update interval for FETCH is 15 minutes.

Now Fetch will try every 15 minutes. If you receive an email and it is close to that 15 minute fetch, it might appear push is working. But if fetch had just run, it could be 15 minutes until the badge changes and a notification for the email appears. And I, as others, can often get double the number of emails on the badge than are really there.

This is...

So, unless I have missed something and I doubt I have, Apple quietly emasculated Apple Mail.

The reason some can get mail under power plugged in AND on WiFi, is that fetch works automatically ONLY in that scenario.

MY gut, unfortunately says Apple is not going to fix this one. They likely think they are saving battery power. They will likely claim no other email supports push.

I'd love to know what others hear and if there is a great third party email app for multple IMAP accounts with push and other rich features.

This is shocking and unacceptable from Apple. Down to Google competition?

Could you not just use the Gmail app? My wife does and it works great.

I could iuse ythe gmail app for Gmail, but I have other accounts. Have never checked if Gmail app will connect to other IMAP accounts through push. Or little things like HTML signatures, which apple broke in 17!!

I have some research and testing in front of me. Will of course, post my findings.

I pay a premium price to have and use Apple products because they “just work” and work brilliantly together (iPhone,iPad,AirPods, Apple Watch, MacBook Pro) but if their supplied apps don’t do the job anymore then I will have to seriously consider switching to other brands that can still provide a full service.

I’m sure, and hope, that others will do the same as I‘m starting to think Apple are believing their own hype and starting to dictate how thing should be.

Yahoo hasn’t had push for close to 10 years now. They removed it on iPhones a long time ago. I was using fetch 15 minutes, but iOS 18 broke fetch so now email only downloads when the mail app is opened unless the phone is charging. Basically I don’t get any notification of mail throughout the day and have missed getting emails because I didn’t check until hours after would have previously got them.

The only emails that I receive without opening the mail app are those from iCloud.

This exactly.

It just does not fetch at all unless open or on power. Shocking that it is not fixed yet for such a fundamental feature.

More than shcking. And despicable I had to learn about it by accident after working for 15 years until last week.

I am a PC guy. I do have an Apple Watch, iPad as well. I was about to buy a Macbook Pro and Studio display for my photography. Rethinking that now.

Email is critical. I could care less about the AI glow if I am not getting email. At worst, timely email. 15 minute delay is a joke.

I decided to contact Apple support about this as I never did and the first level support person was unaware of a problem with fetching mail. She escalated me to a senior level advisor who was not aware of this problem.

She said Apple’s normal recommendation for issues like this is to wipe the devices and set up as new. I told her I didn’t want to wipe both my iPhone and iPad, so she said she’ll get back to me tomorrow to get some diagnostic data. Based on my past experience though, once Apple gathers the data, I almost never hear from the advisor again.

People need to raise a stink about this to support as that’s the only way issues get on Apple’s radar since this doesn’t impact push and I’m guessing all Apple employees use iCloud email.

My Apple feedback is still open with no similar reports, so is anyone reporting this?

I almost never use Apple feedback anymore as they ignore all my reports. It’s been years since I’ve seen any report I make update to a different status. I decided to contact support as they can’t ignore that.

Pathetic.

Apple’s response. Not you!

I did some more searching and found a thread over on the Apple Discussions forum specifically about Yahoo Mail not fetching, which is what I have. Someone posted a screenshot of a response to his Feedback Assistant report claiming a potential fix was identified for a few iOS release. I'm hoping that's the case. I would think though that if this was a known issue, Apple support would know about it.

iOS 18 mail won’t download yahoo mail in background until I open the Inbox

Thanks for the link. Will see if anything useful for my issues.

Downloaded Outloo, Gmail and Edison. Only played with Outlook so far. It is not bad, but will not get any eails from two added accounts (IMAP) unless open. I am stating to thisn the IOS Mail settings are global for ANY email app. Outlook will not fix my issue. Next...

Calling Apple and reporting or asking for help on most things is generally a pointless waste of time. I've never had one problem or question answered by them or solved, ever. You can hear most of them going through an instruction manual and reading what we can. The last time I bothered I got put through to a real hot shot who bigged himself up and told me that nothing and nobody has ever beaten him, and he was adamant he could fix any problem and he was definitely going to sort out mine, and come back to me........

I never ever heard from him again.
I don't bother contacting them any more. Waste of my time. Have more clued up people on here
