Big improvement on the previous version (though I echo what a couple of others have said about chat histories - I think it's better to start where the chat left off rather than at the start). Thanks for all the hard work by the facebook iPhone team!

One thing that is still glaringly missing to me in the native app though is event support. OK so we now get status notifications about events - but we still have no way of viewing any details of events. This would be my number one request for the next version please! Looks like I'll still need to keep the facebook webapp icon for a little longer as that provides at least a decent amount of event info (though ideally it would be nice if it showed attendees too). So handy to be able to call up an event when you can't remember the exact address and then get directions to it on the move!

Whenever Apple gets push working, apps like this need to give us notifications on the icon like when you miss an SMS or call. Same goes with the RSS readers. But so far, so suh-weet.

Anyone else getting "Sorry, there was an error posting your comment." when trying to comment on something in the new app?

I love this update!

Is there a way to see birthday notifcations in this app? This is the only feature I miss versus regular facebook.

You can subscribe to your events calendar with iCal and then sync that over to your iPhone. Works pretty nicely

Arghhh, the new facebook app doesn't take you to the most recent message when you go into a private message thread. Instead it begins the display of messages in chronological order which means I have to swipe up for 30 seconds just to get to the more recent message :(!

Edit: I think they've gone backwards with the private messages. When you go to make a reply, a "popup" text area appears over the message thread and there's no way to look at what your friend has written in their message. I think this is pretty silly because I have the memory of a fish and I just forget what was said in previous messages.

+1 on both of those issues -- starting at the beginning of a message thread is silly, and not being able to scroll backwards when composing a reply is lame. Otherwise a pretty nice update.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

I think facebook did a really good job with this new app. It looks nice and has many of the features that were missing in the previous version.

Until I find something I don't like...

This app seems better than "the New Facebook," finally an alternative.

Lotta nice features. But how do I check my pages? And why are my friends apps (I assume they're apps, Word Challenge, Visual Bookshelf, FriendFeed, etc.) in my scrolling top bar? When I go into them I see what my friends have done with those apps, but I can't do anything with them.

finally.

Whoa, it's finally useful. It's been teetering on the edge of being deleted for a while now, guess I'll keep it.

hmmm i notice that some lame app invites have embedded it's status updates into this app. Facebook apps that i was SURE i never accepted or even allowed to access any of my info...someone is going to pay for this...anyone else have skies of blood tetris friends and city of blood updates showing on the home screen for the facebook app? I find it annoying that i dont even have these applications installed yet it's showing updates for friends who do have them installed. I dont care for it

Well, looks better than the old app, I guess..

but...

1) The app won't go landscape.
2) Viewing photos seems to be a bit buggy - it doesn't know if it's landscape or portrait sometimes and then just gives up the ghost.
3) The times of the items in the news feed are out of whack. I've got lots which says "8 hours ago", when I know they're just a few minutes ago.
4) I've got applications in my menu that I'm not subscribed to (Mob Wars, Superpoke, Word Twist). I'm the kind of guy who likes a nice clean profile and I habitually ignore and ban all crap applications like this)

On the plus side, I like the scrolling top menu.

Yes! This is the major update we've been waiting for!

Noticed a bug already, though...
I ignored two friend requests, and all seemed fine -- but when I signed out and in again, the friend requests were still there. Ignored them again, signed in and out, and they still remained. They won't go away!

I also noticed, like kinchee87, that the private message threads start at the beginning -- which is a drag for really long ones.

Ah well...something to fix for the next update. But for the most part, the app finally has a LOT of the features I've been waiting for, and is a VAST improvement. :D

Same here with me. I had 7 friend requests some of which I accepted and a couple I rejected and they have not gone away, even with sigining in and out a couple of times on the iphone. Blah, well, at least I can now accept or reject stuff, just the notices don't go.
