Well it seems Pilot/Flying J has rolled out chip and thus contactless more widely now so I added it to accepted. A location which was swipe only a month ago now does everything.

Is anyone seeing the NFC readers on the pumps at Pilot/Flying J locations?

Really? Was there about 3 nights ago, and no Apple Pay or NFC payment of any type (Peoria Arizona).

It may still be rolling out. See attached.

Might not be fully rolled out yet? The location I went to seems to be a franchised one and the POS appears to be some standard one used across all of them.
I hope it's getting rolled out. I occasionally stop there and get doughnuts for the office, and it annoys me. Their terminals (at this location) are SWIPE ONLY. They don't take chips or contactless. It kind of surprises me, because the location is only a few years old, but maybe the older equipment is getting replaced at other locations first?

Possibly.

Also, I added Hurley to the wiki.

Starbucks seems to have broken Amex support via Apple Pay…tried twice and got a read and then the terminal said DECLINED. Others have recently posted on Twitter, too. In my case, both times, nothing seemed to hit Amex's side of things. My BofA MasterCard worked fine.

In the past, Discover via Apple Pay never worked at Starbucks (much like Subway) where you'd get an EMV error or something similar. I suspect Amex breaking may be a tweak on Chase's end (they provide Starbucks with the payment processing).

I usually reload my card through the app, but I was buying gift cards and it failed. Has anyone else see this recently (or can report that it is working for them)?

I’ve had this issue since around July. Physical Amex tap seems to work just fine, though.

I was in Discount Tire getting my tires rotated, and it appears that they now do NFC payments. Since the service that I was getting was complimentary, I can't confirm for sure that they do, but they have the wireless payment icons on their credit card readers.

Has anyone tried or can anyone confirm?

They have for a while but it only worked with AmEx for some reason. I wonder if that's changed.

I can confirm as I got a tire installed and I tapped my phone. It was a Visa so it’s not Amex only

About a month ago, I couldn't get a Discover or MasterCard to work when I was there, but since certain things are being enabled in phases, it might work now.

Just an update on Starbucks, Discover works now (maybe Chase updated something on the terminals that fixed Discover, but broke Amex?) As I do most of the card reloads in the app, this really only applies for buying gift cards.

Also, I was stopped at a relatively lengthy light the other day and noticed the Marathon/Circle K station had what appeared to be NFC readers on the pumps (they're the Verifone ones, just like the Shell/Circle K by my home), and today I gave them a try - worked without issue unlike the Shell/Circle K by me, so I suspect things are being rolled out on a station-by-station basis. Since we have a lot of Circle K co-branded stations here (and one that is only branded as Circle K), these are the only two that I've seen that have the readers and, only one appears to be functioning.

If Discover works at Starbucks now, it might be a good opportunity to test out the Apple Pay Cash card and partial authorisation support. I doubt partial auth will work given my experiences at other stores, but I could be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, I can only confirm the one data point, but it was a regular location with a Verifone VX680 - sort of surprised since it never seemed to work in the past (tried it on a whim after Amex not working).

Minor note: Starbucks use the Vx 820, not Vx 680. I believe Vx 680 is a cordless terminal.

Discover works rather well at Starbucks, and partial approval does work with Apple Pay Cash. They unfortunately don’t support EMV or CDCVM for Discover contactless (at least with that card), yet they do for other card networks.

Thanks for the clarification - I was trying to pick out the terminal from Verifone's lineup without seeing the one in person - I've gotten good at spotting the mx915/925 and remembering that model number.

There's a few places I've run into that don't seem to like Discover contactless (Subway is one still) - a friend of mine was doing the Cashback Match up until about a month ago, so there was a lot of Discover usage and it was interesting to see the few Apple Pay quirks. I don't remember the last time she tried the Starbucks reload with it (probably during the 5% restaurants quarter), but it didn't seem to work the few times then, but it is nice to see it working now.

I'm sure it's getting really into the geeky weeds, but is there a particular reason why it seems like some networks were easier to roll out than others? (in the earlier days, I'd see some places where Visa and Amex would work, but Mastercard wouldn't)
