Ikea seems be rolling out contactless support with chip support but its not at all locations so I won't add Ikea regular registers quite yet. More places that have it enabled but weren't listed as accepted before are Giant Eagle and GetGo (PA), California Pizza Kitchen, and Village Inn and I added them all as accepted.

I happened to be there today actually. The Indy IKEA that opened a couple of months ago doesn't seem to have it for the normal registers (mx915s) but they are advertising it for the cafe and grocery section. Those two areas use First Data terminals, but they're not quite customer-facing on the mounts they have and the cashier didn't know how to work it.

As someone that has set up some First Data terminals, I hate that they allow users to operate them two ways: swipe/insert a card first and then enter an amount (NFC never engages) or enter the amount and then the card can be swiped/inserted or NFC used. More often than not, people always go for the first and claim contactless doesn't work/isn't set up. When we set ours up, we trained our staff to always enter the amount so they could accept anything a customer throws at them.

FD35 PIN pads used to be set up early on so that the customer could push Sale and enable NFC that way. Unfortunately that went away pretty quickly. :(

Yes the IKEA food areas have had FD130's for years and nfc works but it prefers us debit over ctls so its a bit of a pita. The main registers should have working contactless once it says "Tap" and once chip is enabled on the MX915's. I believe tap and chip are very recent additions and it could have been a test location I went into. The cashier did mention that Apple Pay did not work but Android Pay did work and I used Android Pay Visa.

Random weird question since this may have the most Apple Pay-interested readers, but I noticed that the last 4 digits that printed on my Subway receipt were the real last 4 on the card and not the Device Account Number (used a MC since Subway's terminals don't like Discover contactless). I think this is the first time I've seen this and was curious if anyone knew anything about why this was the case?

My work cafeteria receipt and Aldi receipt were both the DAN for my Discover card, which I typically expect to see (and with other cards, too).

Some card issuers and payment processors support returning the last 4 digits of the PAN in the response message. So that is what you are experiencing.

That makes a lot of sense and the only conclusion I could really think - I'm guessing for the average consumer, it's "cleanerl cosmetically to have the receipt match the original card, especially as DANs can change with a device reset or a card removal.

Does chip work too, out of curiosity?
Chip and nfc works at the table kiosk. Insert chip on the side or tap under the receipt printout. It’s slow at giving directions but has “insert/tap/swipe” saying when paying.
I’m in San Diego.

Did they no longer allow cards being taken away from you? If so that’s awesome. People who need help from the server can just have the server help them at the table.

Where at in SD exactly? I went to one sometime last month and it wasn't turned on then so they might have done it very recently.

They haven't taken cards away in a while.

I went to the one by Point Loma, specifically off of Sports Arena Blvd. Now that I think of it, it might be the restaurants choice. I went to the one in Chula Vista a few months ago and I never saw the “insert/tap/swipe” message. Then again it could be the New Year so it could’ve just started.

Thanks! Added to the map in the signature.

Anyway, most retailers don't do any upgrades or changes during the holiday season in case of problems. That's more likely what happened. I'd expect all of them to have it turned on eventually.

I think the Ziosk units are upgraded in waves and on a location-by-location basis - nice to see the support coming though!

I stopped at a Speedway in Anna, Ohio and was amazed to see NFC readers with "Coming Soon!" on a label printed below them. Chip is at the pump too.

No clue if chip is enabled yet, though. I went across the street to Shell for gas as I had a discount card for them. But the Speedway pumps were advertising that you could now "pay for gas more securely" - so I would presume chip IS enabled at the pump?

If so, props to Speedway.. first gas station brand I've seen to turn on EMV at the pump.

The coming soon as been on our pumps for over a year.

It’s just a new battery they slide in. It has an EMV slot and an NFC sensor.

That's a pretty neat way to do the upgrade - I'll have to keep an eye out!

There's a Circle K/Marathon by me that has it on (besides all the Meijer gas stations), but I hope Speedway starts rolling it out (along with other Marathons that don't have it).

Added Sbarro to the accepted list. However, I had a weird experience with the cashier trying to reverse the transaction after it went through (though that might not be related to using Apple Pay), so YMMV.
