The rate of contactless payments in USA are now in levels in 2019 when USA businesses ended their pandemic warnings.

Source? Last I heard, it was a lot higher than that:

We continue to grow acceptance with over 100 million merchant locations worldwide and Tap to Pay continues to be a powerful driver of engagement. Globally, 74% of all face-to-face transactions outside the US are now taps. In the US, we're at 34%, up 7x from three years ago and up more than 10 percentage points from last year.

A couple of highlights in the second quarter include US quick service restaurants where penetration surpassed 40%. And in key metro areas across the United States, we continue to see great traction beyond the success in New York and San Francisco. L.A., Detroit, Seattle, San Diego and Oakland and Miami are all now over 40%.

So, this means some big businesses in USA can still continue to resist as long as they want with contactless payments in tap to pay by card and Apple Pay.
The pandemic may be over, but consumer demand will still entice additional retailers to add contactless option. Two more top retailers will add it this year

Completely disagree. The pandemic was in 2019 and that spurred adoption of contactless payments... no way society is going back... the convenience, ease and security of touch-less will continue to drive usage.

But not Walmart. Consumer demand won’t ever matter to them. They would budge only if something else forced their hand such as a card network mandate.

The pandemic actually started in early 2020 for the USA.

Hmmm... I guess I must have been ahead of the curve, as I tested positive in September 2019. Regardless, late 2019 or early 2020, the convenience, ease and security of touch-less payment options will keep the whole contact-less payments moving in an upward direction... there's no going back just because the pandemic has ended.

That’s impossible. No covid testing was even being done at all in september 2019 in the USA. The first cases of covid were discovered in China in DECEMBER 2019. Then it started expanding to other countries later. The emergency, along with covid testing, started in the USA in february-march 2020. You probably tested positive in september 2020, not 2019.

The covid pandemic helped bring contactless payments and tap to pay to increase in the USA.

Now, the pandemic is ending which means the rate of contactless payments and tap to pay will also decrease in the USA.
Regardless of pandemic, I'm still using the most convenient option available. I'll only pull my card out if there is a glitch.

Demand would work if people actually stopped going to WM and let them know why. I haven't used WM in years. I wouldn't even if they had contactless.

Not with Walmart. Regardless of how many people stop going to WM the company simply won’t ever care. They have so many customers that it’s practically impossible that those not going to wm will ever be a majority.

I was using Apple Pay before the pandemic, and I continue to. I love that more places are taking it. I still carry my wallet since California can't get its act together on a digital driver's license. I only use my card if its a sit-down restaurant that doesn't have one of the POS terminals on the table, or if there's a problem with tapping on the terminal.

IHOP is on the list, but the last 2 times I have been to one in Florida, and Texas, they didn't take Apple Pay. The one in Florida even had a sign on the door that said no apple pay

At my local one, it's only at the front counter (they take cards away to be run if you eat there instead of doing a to-go order).

At most US locations, ihop only takes apple pay in the app for to-go orders, if you dine in they have to take your card away like it’s still 1999. Most ihop locations in the US have no portable card readers nor registers at the front for to-go orders (they take them via phone or app). Yet it’s on the list here and they also mistakenly mark them as taking apple pay on apple maps.

Ihop locations outside the US, more specifically in Mexico, do take apple pay for dine in orders since they do use portable card readers to process payments at the tables, as all restaurants anywhere but the USA do.

But most ihops don’t even have a front counter for to-go orders, they just do app or phone for to-go orders and 1999-style taking your card away for dine-in orders.
