Wonder if my app would be rejected if I submitted a "Supports ApplePay" app? It could use geolocation to tell you there is a store nearby or perhaps the store you are in would popup with a notification. Use pin drops to show you nearby stores that support Apple Pay.

yathink?

No harm in trying it... If consumers can see where they can use :apple:pay, I don't think Apple will reject it. They get 0.15% everytime anyone uses :apple:pay, so what possible reason can they have to reject an app which helps them earn money!!

In fact, if your app is a hit with consumers, Apple may end up buying you out....$$$$$$$

This was also the case with my local Staples. After they upgraded to new computers, Apple pay worked flawlessly there. Their old computers were ugly and beige, and their new ones are black and sleek.

My local Staples updated last week as well. I'm in a rural town in Central California so this is likely a nationwide thing for Staples.

A local mom & pop grocery store here bought new PayPass readers that attached to the top of their existing terminals, And I just tried to use it this morning but the transaction declined. The manager said that it'll be up by next week.

I'm loving the random sprout of places that are accepting Apple Pay now. Unlike large stores though they didn't replace the whole terminal, but they didn't need to. The module is 1/3rd the cost of replacing the whole thing. The old ones already had a chip slot so they're covered there too.

It's an IGA store by the way, true mom & pop for sure. This one really did catch me by surprise, but word on the street is that the owner is a tech buff and also owns a small computer store.

Used my Apple Pay today for the first time at Walgreens. It's much more convenient than using a credit card.:)

I sent this wiki list to the CEO of best buy. With christmas shopping season coming up maybe they wanted to get on board before they were left behind.

I got a response from a CSR explaining why they didn't use :apple:pay and why CurrentC was a much better solution.

Big Lots did not work for me, the card popped up on the screen, though it was declined with credit or debit. This was with a Bank of America Visa debit card.

Best Buy shut off their NFC readers about 2 years ago. They didn't break down, they simply shut them off, this preventing any Google Wallet users like myself from using the feature.
WalMart and Best Buy are likely two of the biggest supporters of CurrentC and will be the last to give in to using NFC, assuming they ever do. Best Buy should be embracing any tech that gets people in their stores, but their CEO is to hard headed and continues to have his company bleed money. Maybe he used to work for BlackBerry?

Best Buy is the worst store, they don't use any technology despite selling technology. Can't even demonstrate NFC ago your own customers.

I used ApplePay at Floor Decor & More today. Saw the Ingenico iSC250'terminal and gave it a shot, slightly surprised it worked fine. Cashier hadn't seen it before and asked about it. I doubt it's officially supported, just that the NFC reader was on and the POS didn't mess it up.

There is nothing official about Apple Pay, you either accept NFC or you don't. The list on Apple's site is pretty much an ad for those stores.

I suspect you knew what I meant.

Yes, if NFC is live and the POS doesn't futz it up, it should work.

"Officially supported" was verbal shorthand for the retailer ensuring their stores have active NFC terminals, trained cashiers (hopefully), and POS systems that don't screw up. (e.g. MasterCard via ApplePay at HomeDepot fails, yet the same card at the same checkout works if physically swiped... Not proof it's the POS at fault but seems most likely cause when that MC works elsewhere with ApplePay)

Add Kum & Go to not accepting any form of Contactless payments as of October 31st, as it has not worked since that day and I have not been back to any of them since then. :( Anyways BP works way better with no signature and I asked the cashier often it was used and she said it was used often. I also see the local Michaels on the Paypass locator, hmmm but I haven't had the time to test it out yet.

Michaels works, but to warn you the terminal won't say anything about taking NFC, you just have to put your phone up to the screen and the phone will light up.

It doesn't anymore. It will appear to go through, though much like CVS and Rite Aid, it will ask for a different tender.

Added Michael's (Arts & Crafts Store), verified today with Apple Pay, no problem. Using one of those newer verifone payment machines with the big touch screens, NFC is located behind the LCD of the pad. Worked fine.

Never hurts to ask/try.... when I was at Michael's today, they had 0 NFC logos, but recognized the payment terminals from the gas stations I go to that have NFC... so decided to try.

Yes, I tried, it turns out contactless is enabled at Michael's. This appears to be accidental as there is no contactless terminology in their prompting, but hopefully they leave it enabled. I doubt it, but I hope they do.

Unfortunate to hear, I used to today (with an American Express card) and it worked just fine, so sad to hear they're moving to disable/reject contactless... UGH.

Though it appears to now be turned off, as like I said in the post above, it will ask for a different tender now.

It was just today that I used it successfully with an American Express dual-interface EMV card. Could Michael's somehow actually be detecting Apple Pay? I doubt it, it's more likely my store just hasn't been updated to block contactless yet :(

Ultimately, we know Michael's is on the list of stores contractually required to block contactless. Boo them.

My wife was shopping at Ulta the other day, a chain that sells make up, women's hair products, etc. The register had NFC readers but they were turned off. Cashier acknowledged that Apple Pay or any other contact-less payments are not accepted.

Is Ulta an MCX member? What advantage do they have to gain by not accepting it? It makes me very mad actually that they would rather disable the technology that is inherently more secure.

I have noticed other than at CVS, American Express always seems to manage to try to escape a store's block of NFC. Have you tried the same Amex in Apple Pay?
