I have noticed other than at CVS, American Express always seems to manage to try to escape a store's block of NFC. Have you tried the same Amex in Apple Pay?

I don't have an iPhone 6.

I could try Google Wallet at Michael's but they're not the friendliest crowd here and since there are no logos to point to, they might react poorly.

And no, my Amex works FEWER places than Google Wallet. Google Wallet works great at Staples and Walgreens, whereas the Amex card is rejected (may be related to the service code on the card). The service code on this card is 702 (Closed loop, goods and services only) and I wonder if the "7" closed loop flag causes rejects at Walgreens/Staples.

I've seen posts of Shop Rite accepting NFC but the three I've been to in NJ it did not work.

I think their terminals are half non-functioning. I went to a self checkout and no lights on the tap to pay/nfc part on the top and my phone did not respond but a couple rows down there was a light on where you tap the phone to. Seems very inconsistent for Shop Rite.

I did use it at a soda vending machine in Garden State Plaza and it never went through.. I think their credit card connection was not working. It did work at a machine in Palisades Center (Nyack, NY) this past weekend.

That sounds like all the local CVS before they completely turned off all Contactless payments, like 40% of the time it did not work. So if Shop Rite does take it, they have long neglected the Contactless part.

Shopped at Toys R Us over the weekend. After approving the transaction with Touch ID, I STILL needed to confirm and sign on the terminal. Despite being a launch partner, it seems their POS system is still using old-school logic. It processes it as if a card was swiped. It's not as convenient as what Apple shows in their video. I guess it saves me the steps of pulling out my wallet, getting the card and swiping it. Maybe someday, when NFC payments are more accepted, we won't need to confirm and sign.

I have gone to Shoprite in North Brunswick NJ and ApplePay has worked without issue, but the terminals are pretty beat up and neglected. This Shoprite seems to also be using a beacon as when I enter the store I get an App store icon on my lock screen that takes me to the Shoprite app, so maybe this store has more updated technology.

The signature is up to the agreements between the merchants and their merchant service provider, not Apple or your card issuer. Currently regulations allow for "No CVM" for purchases under $50 in the United states.

bloomingdales, sales staff not trained...

…in Apple Pay. I used or tried to use AP for the first time yesterday at Bloomingdales NYC. The first two times, in make-up (NARS) and intimates the devices worked fine. BUT: the sales people had not a clue how to process the sale. AP deleted the $ from my account instantly but the register would not release a receipt because they didn't know which buttons to press. Also they made me sign like with a credit card. Bad enough, but then I went to buy some glasses on the main floor and after 20 minutes and five salespeople, nobody knew how to either give me a receipt or refund.

Every register there has an Apple Pay sign ad reader. But not one salesperson knows how to use it.

Very frustrating and confusing.

No, they are both MCX partners.

Also they're pretty much the same company- probably will go under in a few years. KMart I'm surprised people still mention, haven't seen one in ages here. Though when I do see one they are very run down and probably can't afford new registers anyway.

I tried at Aeropostale and American Eagle and people at both stores just stared at me wondering what I was doing. The terminals appeared to be setup but they didn't know what to do with the register.

Macy's and Home Depot have been super easy. I try it everywhere I go. Its great to see the face of the people around you when you pay with the phone. They are amazed.

Fuddruckers
Subway

Do we count international locations too or only US? Got a few in Europe that worked with my iphone

I think most subways in the whole world are contactless enabled based on experience.

I don't know what other countries Fuddruckers are if they even are.

For my fellow North Easterners, I was shopping at Wegmans today and used ApplePay. My wife was amazed, but I still had to sign for the transaction though.

Signing does defeat the ease of use I thought. But I suppose one day when companies catch up we won't have to.

The guy at the register said that he figured signing was an extra security step in case someone gets your phone. But I told him if they have my phone they better have my finger also, cause it won't work without my fingerprint. :)

Subway's in Dubai, are definitely NOT contactless.. same goes for Foodruckers (atleast that's how it is spelt here, unless it is another chain...)

I see Office Max on the list however I just tried and my card was declined. It's a Wells Fargo card that I never use (0 balance on it) so it shouldn't be declined.

OfficeMax has to upgrade the computer first, they said it will be ready by then end of January.

This is how I felt a couple years ago when using Google Wallet. The people at the places I frequented got used to it. I essentially trained these places in preparation for Apple Pay. I guess we can call Google Wallet an Apple Pay Beta testing app? ;)
