Show me your setup.py, I’ll let you know where is the issue.
I may not have been clear. Did you miss that I said that the "built-in" property itself did not work on the MBP15,1? They work on the cMP in Catalina. BS on cMP built-in property works too. It is not related to the setup.py itself as a program.

I did not, your device is marked as built-in in cMP but not in your laptop. I was simply checking to see what is your config source.

Yes, in that case, the USB installer IS your other disk.
ok bro.
That is because you know what you are doing. Not everyone does. And I personally do not want to fiddle with USB drives if my OC setup breaks. Is a matter of choice, that is why @cdf presented the safest way to setup your Mac. The guide will evolve soon (he is busy with work until beginning of December) and be merged with the plistlib generator I created a while ago, so we take out of equation the mistakes made by people while copying files, configuration, etc.
sure but he said you NEED. you in fact do not need. just factual.

also under what circumstances do your OC breaks? cause I've been running Catalina since the guide went up without zero issues.
I'm actually amazed at the amount of different issues in this thread, considering we're all running the same computer.

I never disable SIP, when I bless the EFI partition and I never use the long bless command. I do however shutdown the Mac for 15s, instead restarting it directly. I did tried before a simple reboot and it worked but I rather use the @cdf purist approach for your hardware.
yeah for some reason the short command has never worked for me. and as I said, you need to disable SIP if you're trying to bless form the OS because the bless command has been blocked since the introduction of SIP.
but you don't need to disable it if you're doing it from an USB installer or recovery partition.
personally I always leave it disabled. it's a pointless niche feature.

I thought a reboot will enable it automatically? At least this is the behaviour I get on my Mac.
not for me. only reseting the SMC (or PRAM?) should re enable it. I think this also breaks OC, as in you would need to re-bless it. but I'm not sure.

Yes. Following the instructions on first page. When you boot into recovery SIP is temporarily disabled. But not set to disabled. So when you boot normally again SIP is enabled. This is how SIP behaves with or without OpenCore.

Check it with this command csrutil status

This is one of the reasons OpenCore is superior to other solutions. You keep a high security OS.

yeah you have to run in the terminal of an usb installer or the recovery partition "csrutil disable" to disable it permanently.
but if you don't need to there's no need. I just like having it disabled cause I do all kinds of things apple doesn't want you to do that SIP blocks. including blessing a volume.

Have you tried the plistlib generator to build the EFI? If you have the setup.py, please post it.
Not yet. I am working on another project. I am trying to create a bootcamp partition on my external drive on the MacBookPro15,1. The Bootcamp assistant works on the cMP in BigSur (it stopped working in Mojave and Catalina). The problem is it creates hybrid (MBR) partition on the same drive where the Big Sur APFS volume is. I would like it to create an UEFI aware partition, but the Bootcamp Assistant complains in the MacBookPro15,1:

although all devices appear as internal (set by OC) as seen in the Bootcamp Log file:

Perhaps. You could always compare your model's firmware features with those of a known working model to identify the missing bits.

Which model supports USB Install? I know cMP supports it. But which bit is it? I tried iMac Pro and MP6,1 features.

Is there a reason why you want to use Boot Camp Assistant to create the partition? Just use Disk Utility.app. It probably should not be MBR if the disk is external. Besides, you have a new Mac (from 2018) so it should use UEFI.

Can anyone help me with this please? I'm getting this whenever I do a cold boot. First boot always results in this error but after that, it boots normally. Any ideas? OC 0.63 with Big Sur on Samsung 970 EVO NVMe drive. Boot volume is encrypted.

Is there a reason why you want to use Boot Camp Assistant to create the partition? Just use Disk Utility.app. It probably should not be MBR if the disk is external. Besides, you have a new Mac (from 2018) so it should use UEFI.
I guess that works too:
Erase BOOTCAMP partition:
Code:
sudo diskutil eraseVolume free free disk1s3
To resize the APFS Container to the whole drive:
@joevt There is a difference when Bootcamp is created from the Bootcamp assistant in Catalina and manually:
Code:
 p

Sector size (logical): 4096 bytes
Disk identifier (GUID): B44AD43D-8DE9-4F9E-ACBC-A19BABCBD065
Partition table holds up to 128 entries
Main partition table begins at sector 2 and ends at sector 5
First usable sector is 6, last usable sector is 61279338
Partitions will be aligned on 2-sector boundaries
Total free space is 107 sectors (428.0 KiB)

Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name

First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 976773134
Partitions will be aligned on 8-sector boundaries
Total free space is 845 sectors (422.5 KiB)

Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name

The Windows on the external drive can see only the partitions installed on the same drive, whereas the Windows installed on the internal drive through Bootcamp assistant can see all drives and partitions.

OpenCore on Legacy Apple Hardware

This guide explains how to use the excellent OpenCore bootloader on a classic Mac Pro to install, run and update macOS Catalina, resulting in a clean, unpatched operating system no different than on a supported Mac.

Why OpenCore?

There are several advantages to using OpenCore on a classic Mac Pro:

Boot picker screen (even with a standard graphics card)
View attachment 916024
Software Update (just like on a supported Mac)
View attachment 882160
Hardware acceleration (and DRM for Netflix on Safari)View attachment 919405
Requirements

Mac Pro modelEarly 2009 with MacPro5,1 firmware,* Mid 2010 or Mid 2012
Processor architectureWestmere (E56xx, L56xx, X56xx) / Gulftown (W36xx)
Boot ROM version144.0.0.0.0*
GraphicsCatalina supported GPU**, EFI (flashed) or a standard UEFI card (PC GPU)

* Need to upgrade? See the upgrade instructions.
** Several GPUs that are supported with High Sierra had support removed from Mojave and Catalina, like any non-Kepler generation NVIDIA GPUs or AMD GPUs earlier than HD 7950. Several HD 78xx GPUs (Pitcairn) were rebadged as R9 2xx and are not supported anymore by Mojave/Catalina drivers. All Mac Pro factory GPUs had support removed with Mojave.

A big thank you to @vit9696 and the other talented developers of Acidanthera for making all of this possible. Special gratitude goes to @h9826790 for spearheading the hardware acceleration study and @startergo for the relentless testing that led to boot screen support. And thanks to all those that have contributed to this thread!
Today I replaced the Sapphire RX 580 card with the Radeon VII (with Pixlas Mod) and with native Mojave it works great but when I reinstall OC 0.5.9 it doesn't work.
I tried to install 0.6.3 too but I can't install it because the bless fails and keeps giving me an error!
Should I do anything other than OC guide?
Until now with the RX 580, OC 0.5.9 and Catalina I have never had any problems with my 5.1 cMP!
Help me pls!!! Thanks!

Should makes no difference. At least, GPU won't cause bless fail (this usually because the user forgot to disable SIP).

Should makes no difference. At least, GPU won't cause bless fail (this usually because the user forgot to disable SIP).
Disabling SIP is the first thing I do!
Unfortunately as you can see from the picture of the Terminal the bless is not successful (it doesn't happen correctly) and when I restart the choice is locked on "Catalina" (on monitor #1) and I can only press enter... strangely then (very slowly) monitor #1 turns black and the login screen of "Mojave" appears on monitor #2.
Even while logging in monitor #1 remains black!
It's really a mystery!
The only thing I've changed is the graphics card and when I boot from native Mojave (without OC), everything works fine!
Please help me! Thanks in advance!

The Windows on the external drive can see only the partitions installed on the same drive, whereas the Windows installed on the internal drive through Bootcamp assistant can see all drives and partitions.
That means one of two things:
a) the manually created Bootcamp was not created correctly
b) booting from external differs from booting from internal - what if you swapped the drives?

Question: are you wanting to boot BIOS or UEFI? Do they both boot UEFI or BIOS or mix? As far as I know, you can't boot BIOS on external drives. There's a info window in Windows that tells what the boot method was, right?

Question: are you wanting to boot BIOS or UEFI? Do they both boot UEFI or BIOS or mix?
UEFI is the only option for OC. Hybrid is safe for the cMP, but only rEFInd can boot that so far.
So they are both GPT disks, but pay attention to the start sectors difference.
All GPT partitions start at sector 40, but the one created by Apple's Bootcamp starts at 6.
Code:
 sudo gpt show /dev/disk0
     start size index contents
         0 1 PMBR

  61279343 1 Sec GPT header
Code:
sudo gpt show /dev/disk1
      start size index contents
          0 1 PMBR
          1 1 Pri GPT header

And here is the Big Sur BOOTCAMP partition creation on a cMP (hybrid partition)
Code:
sudo gpt show /dev/disk10
gpt show: /dev/disk10: Suspicious MBR at sector 0
      start size index contents

   60135399 25

  117212672 209
  117212881 4 Sec GPT table
  117212885 1 Sec GPT header

So the only difference between the UEFI and MBR partitions is PMBR vs MBR.

I'm trying to do the windows 10 install, and I'm currently stuck on this part of the install. Where I have to run this command.

Verify the configuration
  • Close config.plist
  • In Terminal, enter: plutil -convert xml1 config.plist && plutil config.plist
You should see config.plist: OK. If not, recheck all the steps.

I'm receiving this error

plutil -convert xml1 config.plist && plutil config.plist

config.plist: file does not exist or is not readable or is not a regular file (Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=260 "The file “config.plist” couldn’t be opened because there is no such file." UserInfo={NSFilePath=config.plist, NSUnderlyingError=0x7fcbabd06ed0 {Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=2 "No such file or directory"}})

Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

For quick diagnosis, please read this post, and try the pre-configured OC 0.6.3 package.

This package built from my cMP that is running a Radeon VII.
