Sound like safe assumptions :)
I'm going to upgrade BS with Monterey on a cloned SSD just to be safe. Worst case scenario, I pull the drive and reinsert my current Big Sur volume. Figured that's the safest way to proceed for the time being.

Anyway, thanks for getting back to me on Monterey. I'm now confident enough to give the upgrade a go. To everyone else, apologies for the completely OT thread-jack. Back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Hi thanks flaubert for the advice.

it sounds like your setup is ready to go, but you really should purchase a second disk and make a clone of your current disk before going forward. Likewise, you don't want to re-use that original disk as a backup, either; it's just a good practice to always have a natively bootable disk with a working copy of Mojave on it. You don't mention what your firmware revision is, but I'm assuming that you're on 144.0.0.0 since you're running Mojave.
Yeah I do plan to get a new SSD and back up my Mojave which is on my original 512Gb apple drive and it is getting old now anyway. Yeah my Firmware is BOOT rom version 144.0.0.0.0

If you followed the video then I believe you loaded Martin Lo's OpenCore package on a USB drive. After cloning your current disk when you reboot with the OpenCore USB drive inserted you should get a picker screen where you can choose to boot your original drive, or the new SSD. Boot the new SSD, and then perform the upgrade to Monterey; it shouldn't crash your system or brick your hard drive. I think you'll be off and running then, and if anything goes wrong you can always revert back to booting your original disk by pulling the USB drive and the SSD prior to booting.
It sounds amazing that it can work like that with a USB, OpenCore doesn't change the boot Rom does it?
If I Clone my Mojave SSD and use that to upgrade to Monterey that should work?

I should make it clear that I have windows 10 installed in DRIVE BAY1 it was a legacy install done via a CD ROM.
When I want to log into windows 10 I use the option key when I turn on the Mac and select my windows drive from there and boot into windows 10 from there.

I have been told that having windows 10 in DRIVE BAY1 can brick my system if using OpenCore is this correct?

If I take out all the drives and just keep the drive I intend to upgrade to Monterey the windows drive shouldn't brick my system? but what happens if I put back my legacy windows drive back in DRIVE BAY 1 will that then brick my system?

For some reason I can't move my Windows 10 to any other Drive Bay I really should have it in DRIVE BAY 4 but I don't know how to move it and i don't want to reinstall it again.

Can I ask would I be able to clone the windows drive?
If so, would I clone it while it is in DRIVE BAY 4?

I can only afford 1 SSD at the moment so I will only have 1 SSD to work with, so some how I need to use 1SSD to make a clone of my Mojave and then a clone of my windows so I can move my widows to Drive Bay 4 if that is even how it works. I am thinking if I can clone my windows to DRIVE BAY 4 and it works from DRIVE BAY 4 I can then delete my original SSD Windows 10 drive and use that to clone my macOS Mojave drive does this make sense.

Honestly I don’t mind if my Windows 10 drive does not work in OpenCore but I can still load/boot into windows 10 via the Options key when I turn on the Mac that is how I use it now so I don’t mind if my windows 10 still works like that. I m really not tech savvy I'm just trying to get this to work without destroying my computer.

Unless you know that cubase won't run past Big Sur I would bypass Big Sur and go straight to the latest Monterey. If you really need to install Big Sur there is this page from Apple Support that tells you how to download the older versions:
Cubase 12 only supports now officially Big Sur and Monterey I think Monterey seems like the best move for what I been told. Only thing is that my legacy WiFi might not work in Monterey but they have a patch that might fix that. As I am not sure I want to start messing around with the WiFi card that is already installed.
Thanks for all help flaubert

I have a previous Windows 10 legacy install... After OC, it won't be recognized right? Is there a way for it to show up and be viewable - bootable isn't important.

After I build and install OCLP and reboot, I select Mojave on the bootpicker and immediately get the "prohibited" sign. It is a fresh install of Mojave and OC works with Martin's package, just not OCLP. And ideas on how to fix this?

You need to make sure you have "_no_compat_check" in your boot arguments. My guess is your config.plist is spoofing a MacPro7,1 which cannot run Mojave.

Where is that located?
Here is the relevant part from the first post - you need to put these lines back into your config.plist in the NVRAM key -

That little -no_compat_check fixed the issue. Man, you guys are good.

I've been gone for a while and would like to install Monterey.

Should I go with Martin´s guide even though is hasn't been updated to OC 0.7.9?

Or can I just grab his config.plist and do the normal OC 0.7.9 install?

I've got Monterey 12.2.1 working but no bluetooth.

Do I need to get a new bluetooth card? If so which one?

Thanks

Is always a good idea to understand what you are doing with OC and learn from the first post guide. I don't understand why people are posting OCLP related stuff in this thread.
Because it uses OpenCore and is also mentioned in the first post? I've read the first post guide, but as I said earlier, I wasn't aware of this thread when I used OCLP, so that was my first experience with OpenCore. For somebody just looking to install Big Sur or Monterey, the OCLP route is by far the easiest that I've seen. Sure, take the time to read-up on what's under the hood, but there's nothing wrong with somebody going that route.

Do you have the factory bluetooth/wireless card? I have the factory Broadcom BCM43xx. Easiest way to get support is just running the patcher portion of the OCLP patcher, if you'd like to go the more hands-on route, the dortania guide has a Bluetooth section:

If you aren't comfortable with root patches then you'll need a BCM94360 or something else that is natively supported.

I have what came with the machine.

Will take a look at OCLP.

But there is no kext to inject or something?

The guide has been updated to OpenCore version 0.7.9.
In your instructions, you mention to remove this code, if I run Catalina or later:
Code:
    <key>NVRAM</key>
    <dict>
        <key>Add</key>
        <dict>
            <key>7C436110-AB2A-4BBB-A880-FE41995C9F82</key>
            <dict>
                <key>boot-args</key>
                <string>-no_compat_check</string>
            </dict>
        </dict>
        <key>Delete</key>
        <dict>
            <key>7C436110-AB2A-4BBB-A880-FE41995C9F82</key>
            <array>
                <string>boot-args</string>
            </array>
        </dict>
I want to be able to have hardware acceleration and also boot into Mojave, leaving this code in place will affect hardware acceleration? I remember this has been discussed but I cannot find the info.

I only see the first post say "If you're using OpenCore to boot only Catalina and later, then you can clean up the NVRAM". You need to keep these lines if you are spoofing the MacPro7,1.

In your instructions, you mention to remove this code, in order to enable hardware acceleration:
Code:
    <key>NVRAM</key>
    <dict>
        <key>Add</key>
        <dict>
            <key>7C436110-AB2A-4BBB-A880-FE41995C9F82</key>
            <dict>
                <key>boot-args</key>
                <string>-no_compat_check</string>
            </dict>
        </dict>
        <key>Delete</key>
        <dict>
            <key>7C436110-AB2A-4BBB-A880-FE41995C9F82</key>
            <array>
                <string>boot-args</string>
            </array>
        </dict>
Is this the case? Because I want to be able to have hardware acceleration and also boot into Mojave
Actually, you don’t need to remove the no_compat_check boot arg to enable hardware acceleration. You only need this boot arg if you want to boot Mojave (or earlier) when using the (recommended) MacPro7,1 board ID. If you want hardware acceleration in Mojave, then take a look at the spoiler at the end of the section Complete you setup.
